Guide to DN Janken (Rock-Paper-Scissors)

Recommended Posts

:D :D :D :D :D

So apparently there's an art to rock-paper-scissors and there are even World Championships for this "sport". Rock-paper-scissors also happens to be a part of Yugioh, and can be quite an important part, so here's a study on Rock-Paper-Scissors and a slight modification to make it optimal for going against people on DN. Of course, it's not sure-fire win, but it increases your chances and I need somewhere to write down my observations. Feel free to add to it.

Rock may be the most likely choice for guys, but don't count on it. If you see someone throw a rock, paper or scissors in a previous Match, chances are, the next person you face will either select the same, or select the thing that beats it. The chances of anything else is quite slim.

After both players select paper, the most likely sign they will select next is Scissors. It probably works with anything else to select the one that would lost to your opponent's previous choice, but it seems to happen after paper more than anything else, at least to me, it seems to happen the most. :o

I usually do Paper, Rock, Rock, Scissors. Just because. It seems like people like leading with scissors a lot lately, but newbies like to pick rock every time.

And yes, there is a strategy to RPS, just like any game. It's not just a game based on luck, but also about psychology. Which is why it's a bad way to determine who goes first. You can throw caution to the wind and play it purely by random decision and luck, but almost always a player has a specific way they go when they play. It's also possible, if you're a master of sleight of hand, to cheat at rock paper scissors by making your move only after seeing your opponent's fingers moving to make their own move.

Also, Jajanken is the best move ever.

I always use the second time what would have won the first round. I mean, if we both picked rock then the second time I choose paper (alot of internet people are too lazy to choose something else). then if it's a tie again that means I'm playing against someone that thinks like me, so I choose the same thing usually, because he would think that I would again use the same method of choosing what would have won, resulting in him choosing whatever wins next, so I stay with the same choice as the second round. (so if in the second round we both picked paper, he would think I would think he would pick paper again and pick scissors, so he picks rock but then I stay with paper.) beyond that I just improvice.

damn that was complicated :S

Also I don't know why but on duels that matter (people I know\ tournaments and such) I usually lose the first time... Sort of like a bad luck I created for myself I think :\

Man, you're nuts. Going first is big.

The new ones are afraid of Scissors. I generally throw Rock > Rock > Paper > Paper against people with less than 400 XP.

BOLD: That's exactly why I like going 2nd. If I can consistently beat people who go first then that means that I'm getting better at the game.

I mostly do Paper, I end up winning most of the time.  Never been much of a rock person, but I either repeat paper or do cissors depending on my whim, because my opponent will either blindly repeat their choice, or go for rock when it's a tie.

Too bad more than half the time I win, I draw into a hand that would have liked going second.
