Sleepy
When I was little, as a middle-class kid of the 90's, I used to watch a lot of TV. Nickelodeon, Fox Kids, Cartoon Network, and a local channel, were filled with tons of my favorite cartoons and shows. MTV was actually filled with music, plus some Rem & Stimpy, and it was one of the brightest decades for anime over here in Latin America. As I've grown up, I've felt that the amount of good shows to watch has been gradually decreasing, and although good shows still keep popping up, it's just not as often. As if they were waiting for their turn to be the only good show out there of the moment. Commercials keep decreasing my patience everytime I sit on the sofa. Movies that should take 2 hours of the morning to end, I found myself still watching at 3pm. Almost like a wasted day from what could have just been part of my morning. Also, over here in Mexico, the amount of Anime has decreased in the TV's schedule. Channels dedicated entirely to it have gradually banished and/or decreased their shows of interest so much that they cannot possibly proclaim themselves to be anime channels anymore. Voice dubs have also lost some quality for them, and it's as if there was a campaign against them. Not to mention, the internet has been growing up throughout all this time. I usually can find most of the shows that interest me through a relatively quick search on the computer. No commercials, the hability to put pause on them, and repeat them as well. It's come to the point where I really don't watch TV anymore. At all. The internet has given me another benefit. Putting aside the multi-purpose nature that a computer already has, we recently in Mexico have been using it for news as of the last few years or so, because of the political state of the country, news are heavily biased and backup our fraudulent "president". Many real news are omitted, and there's basically a monopoly that controls most of the information going on around. It's pretty sad. Now, there is always the possibility that my views are biased, that TV actually might have good things to share, and that it's just that I'm not of this time's generation anymore in my head. I don't know. Just today, I saw a thread talking about the re-transmission of the first generation of Digimon, something I used to watch back in the day. My reaction? "Nah, I already watched it again recently on Youtube. It's nice of them, but I really have no need to go hunt for it on the TV". So I ask you people. What do you think of the TV? Does it have a future? Will it be replaced? Will it dissapear? Or do you still watch plenty of it? Give your thoughts. Don't just limit yourself to answer what I asked here. Great Unclean One: VK
It's future is slipping but it'll still be there. Kinda like how the radio is still here. Also, the quality of shows have been decreasing due to several reasons, whether they be due to writing getting stale, the fat cats fucking things up in production, or too much interference with the writers. Not to mention nowadays, everything like shows and games MUST be marketable. Want to make a deep meaningful show? Better change shit so that it'll sell even if it means getting rid of how meaning full you want it to be. See NGE vs. Skull Killer Jakio. NGE got cute girls in plugsuits. SKJ got well..... Action during appropriate scenes, some fetish stuff and it shys away from that, and it's in highly stylized artstyle with characters that look like they'll kill you. That shit won't sell unlike NGE's moefest. Or Kamen Rider Ryuki vs. Magica Puella. They both basically have the same story but one is Toku and one is moe. Guess which did better and easier to market to otakus? But that's my opinion. Anyhow, I hardly watch TV unless I'm watching the news while doing the dishes and prepping rice for the rice cooker. Elijah~
TBH the tv in the future will probably be screwed up. Think about it Spongebob has REALLY gotten bad over its timeframe in the show business . Also everybody is running out of ideas and that's why everything's goin rancid. They've cancelled a lot of good shows CatDog. Ren and Stimpy. CatScratch. This is my opinion on the future of TV.
Kazooie
>Future of TV Obviously Xbox One. For real though, I don't want much TV anymore. Most of the shows on now don't interest me much really. I don't really have a reason to consistently turn the TV on anymore.
Susie
Pretty much what everyone else has said, you know I barely even watch TV because there isn't really that many shows that really interest me at all, though it would be nice to have some change going on TV so that we can have more interesting shows there, not saying that there isn't, but there really isn't that much. Toffee.
The only actual advantage TV has over things like YouTube, is because you get to witness them first, BEFORE they hit the Internets. That, and you you get something to watch with your family.Where as on the Interwebz, you also get subs/fan-dubs, spoofs, discussions, etc, and among other things, more privacy.....Or something like that. Or something like that. Yeah, and there's actually a cable you can connect from the TV to the computer, if you wanna watch your video on the TV screen, although remote control is the probable issue there. To be fair, TV being about bussiness, has always been a thing. I grew up with Pokemon, DBZ, Digimon, all marketable as hell. >Future of TV Obviously Xbox One. Tentacruel
It really doesn't have a future. It'll take a while, but the TV will eventually be replaced entirely by things like Netflix or even live streams of shows. (Which exactly like TV only through the internet.) Cin
I remember seeing a documentary in the UK on the death of Saturday Night tv. UK has far too many talent shows/voting shows. (E.g Dancing On Ice, etc) and Soaps. Then again I pay very little attention to tv outside of Suits, Bones, the News and the Dave channel. TV just has poor quality so maybe more internet based I suppose.
