Raviel, Lord of Phantasms

Because I fought a build that used this on Duel Monsters Genesis. I Bear'ed it lol. Anyway, he used Giant Germ and some other Fiend-Type to Summon him. Probably could also have used Fires of Doom, Nightmare Archfiends or maybe Multiply. Maybe he had them? I ended up finishing him pretty quick.

Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing 3 Fiend-Type monsters, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. Each time your opponent Normal Summons a monster(s): Special Summon 1 "Phantasm Token" (Fiend-Type/DARK/Level 1/ATK 1000/DEF 1000) for each monster Summoned. These Tokens cannot declare an attack. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 monster, this card gains ATK equal to the original ATK of the Tributed monster, until the End Phase.

for some reason this card is now starting to make me think of summoned Skull for some odd reason with its design O.o

 

OT: It in general is an Okay 3 tribute monster where its a 4K beater where it can gain a token once per turn, shame that its limited to special summon otherwise you could abuse that fact for possible synchro's (though this still works with stuff like Formula, that level 3 Winged-Beast synchro, Balmung, Amoury arm and if possible with level 4 tuners even a catastor.)

The fact this guy is a Special Summon and not a Tribute Summon does him a lot of favours. Phantom Skyblaster can set him up for 1 cards if you have another monster. The Token generation might work with something else, and his boost effect can get downright nasty, but he's a little slow. A friend of mine played this in pre-Grapha DW due to spam.

The last time I ever used this card, it's been to try to make Rescue Rabbit work in some obscure build involving vanillas required for Masked Beast Des Gardius, and/or that Archfiend 1900 ATK beater just so I can main deck Falling Down.

It's anime support spell that creates tokens, requires you to discard your hand. How could they have missed what it means for Raviel in hand?

They are nomi monsters. In the anime, it was really cool that they were self-revivable by Tributing 1 of their kind of cards (Trap/Spell/Fiend) respectively.

 

Overall it's cool. Jaden could only take them down by cheating.

With Philosopher's Stone - Sabatiel

It was so out of nowhere xD

Though, he did play against the sacred beasts again in season 3 against Yubel, though I don't remember how that turned out.

The Yubel season used their actual effects, not the broken effects that the season 1 Duel involved (Uria used any Traps and self-revived if you discard a Trap, Hamon was the same as RL, but if it died in DEF, you negated all Damage (or just effect damage) for the turn). Raviel Summoned Tokens for any Summon and could Tribute any number of Tokens to boost its ATK.

 

Raviel never conjured a Token in that season, though, because it was always the third of the beasts Summoned, and they were fused for Armityle at that point.

 

The anime version of Phantasmal Martyrs only required 2 discards for 3 Tokens. The RL version discards the entire hand while requiring you to have 2 or more cards in hand at the time, making it not only absurdly conditional (you need to control Uria or Hamon to use it), but also incredibly counterproductive because you won't be able to use them for their blatantly obvious purpose without a hand.

 

And Martyrs Summons 3 0/0 Tokens in ATK position. The only way this isn't a horrible thing is if you have Hamon in DEF to take all incoming attacks instead.

 

I only see Raviel in Dark Gaia decks with Reasoning or Monster Gate. Its stats are nice, and being able to be Special Summoned is nice, but requiring 3 Fiends and not having preservation effects does hurt it. Being a Nomi also makes it harder to use/abuse, so Obelisk, D-HERO Plasma, and so on tend to be better.

 

And yeah...Sabatiel made the whole thing anti-climactic. It literally produced any 3 Spells you want for half your LP each time, and was added to your hand if Winged Kuriboh died.
