Warrior/Xyz/Effect

2 Level 5 WATER monsters
Once per turn, during either player’s turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; double this card’s ATK until the opponent’s End Phase, but any battle damage this card inflicts to your opponent this turn is halved.

2400/1400

Looking at its IRL version, this guy has fallen into the "bad Number" category. As expected its effect becomes OPT, though I kinda didn't expect it to have the battle damage is halved clause as well. Though I reckon the biggest kick in the teeth in addition to the expected nerf is the material requirements.

looking at the lv5 water monsters, seems easiest cards that can get this out without any level changing effects, would either be the situational -2 Panther shark +  Eagle shark duo, a pair of Dragon Ice, Dragon Ice + one of the above sharks/cyber shark, instant fusion into Amphibious Bugroth + one of the above,  or Tribute Summon Des frog with a tadpole in the graveyard to get another des frog from the deck.

yeah... way to situational to actually even summon, and its not even that good compared to other possible rank 5s you can go into that are generic.

Non generic materials is the biggest blow here, pretty much killing it's playability. Halving damage is fair enough given the attack boost stays till your opponents next turn.

But since it's another case of the curse of the Rank 5's. Because we have Volca amongst other things, getting something balanced that's still worth running next to it is very hard.

I was thinking that as well when I saw this.

I mean Abyss Splash didn't even have 2 WATER monsters used to summon the first time it appeared. This was a really poor choice on their part. The only thing the Legendary Numbers seem Legendary for is getting nerfed to crap. Number 64 being the exception.

I bet Konami weren't even looking at its first appearance when discussing the IRL version.

I'm not really that bothered. It doubles current ATK, unlike Excalibur, and halving the damage just keeps it from doing an outrageous amount of damage. Think of why Limiter Removal is ridiculous.

2 Level 5 WATER is a bit disappointing, but oh well. I didn't expect Number 73 to be amazing.

Cyber Shark, Armz. Instant Fusion into Bugroth then drop it.

Cyber Shark isn't a Cyber Dragon, though O,o
By that, I meant something with that obligatory "If you control no monsters and the opponent controls stuff, you can Special summon this card from your hand"-effect.

The problem with cards like this is that whatever effort you use to bring out 2 Level 5 WATER monsters can go into ANY Rank 5, not just this one. And this one isn't really worth going into in the first place. The fact it's not generic and not that special means there's no reason to go into it as opposed to virtually any other Rank 5. And Rank 5 has some of the best options in the game.

When you compare the effort of Summoning this, to the effort of Summoning Constellar Pleiades (needs LIGHT), you can see that Pleiades is actually WORTH the requirement of 2 Level 5 LIGHT monsters, whereas this is NOT worth the requirement of Level 5 WATER monsters.
