Vanity's Emptiness

Trooper was right.  This thing is bananas.

We all know how crazy good this thing is.  Some have even called it "Royal Impression 2.0".

Like Oppression, does this thing deserve to rot in Yugimonz jail forever?  More importantly, will Konami actually hit this card?

Discuss.

The card does technically have a drawback, but it does outright end most of the format if they don't open with some way to remove your cards. Gives reason for people to board in that third MST if it completely destroys you in that matchup.

Bannable? I would say that hitting this to one would be reasonable, but I don't think you can ban a card with conditions that restrict you from making other moves until you know you need to in order to push for game.

Main reason why this and Oppression are nuts is that you can use this after you made your push, thus rendering your opponent to not be able to counterpush next turn should you fail.

Oppression, however, doesn't have a condition where all that needs to happen is that a single card of yours needs to go to your graveyard.

It's definitely something to keep a watchful eye on, but I think that, at most, it'll go to 1, because it's not that absurd.

Iirc Beetle doesn't stop cards from self nuking, like Vanity's or Swords.

Actually, based on what I'm reading, since the destruction of Emptiness would start a chain, it's a card effect that would destroy it, so Key Beetle would protect it. Which means that the only way to get around it is bouncing.

...And of course, the Safe Zone variant is literally just a lock. You'd have to have boardwide bounce for that to occur, which we don't really have available to every deck as far as I can recall.

Pretty much this, which is literally the main reason that Oppression also had going for it, and this card basically followed along in the exact same manner.
Which is pretty damn stupid :/

The card is surprisingly silly.

Even with the restriction on it, it's enough to essentially give you massive momentum in a game for next to nothing. Simply because flipping this before they go for the extra deck monster generally leaves them with two really weak things on the field.

Control decks that don't already have something like this love it, and it can be really ran in anything like Oppression was.

Even with it's restriction, you don't have to care so much about it lasting forever, because a turn where you've kept your field and your opponents done next to nothing is a major advantage for you. Even it lasting a turn can shit the match around.

Was thinking Deck Lockdown. Nvm.
I've had it played against me as a Dragon Ruler tech, just to make things even easier for the deck.   It's probably not common though.
That seems suboptimal because your big dragons return to the hand during the SP, so your field kinda disappears.
