Ultravires
I don't see how Sinister not being a Ronintoadin target matters when it gets you free Ronintoadin targets into the grave and Lancer Frogs recycle like crazy. I also don't see how people don't understand that it's literally a free advantage engine in Mermails while Atlanteans have soft requirements to get those mitigating +1s that help you break even. Atlanteans are always break-even cards at best, and sometimes you have to pitch them with no effect because you desperately need to make a play. ihop
Undine Engine is not bad and a lot of decks ran 1 and 1 to help in the Evilswarm matchup. Making Leo with a level 7 is p. decent as well so controller is not as bad as you might think. Stuff like Pike just makes this insane as you basically just add a level 3 (GUNDE) from deck for no cost, not to mention you then get more fodder for Megalo (it makes Megalo a little better than it is now) and Teus. Gunde is the only thing you really want to be consistantly pitching and you can't pitch 2 Gunde in a turn so this is ridiculous.

Sleepy
Free discard fodder is not good for this game. Neither seem to be free monsters from the Extra Deck, which are gonna get a full generation focused around them, and that's what this thread is supposed to be about. Atlanteans help you break even immediately, and have effects and/or stats to work in a way other than discard fodder. You will sometimes Heavy Storm a single card at a format where Heavy is legal, your point? Sinister Serpent WOULD be powerful/useful, and the current reasons I acknowledge make this debatable as unbanning choice. However, you and I have been getting lost in this thread's original goal, which is it's future potential usage compared to the sheer pluses that the upcoming mechanic will bring to the game, that from the way Pendulums work on it's own, promises to rival or arguably surpass Sinister-like recyclability. So can you please not leave that out of the picture?

So can you please not leave that out of the picture? As a topdeck most of them are as bad as Serpent is, so that's a moot point. They're not as consistently a plus the way Serpent is, and over a grind game Serpent puts in way more work than any other card in the deck because it helps everything else in the deck put in work for free. Also comparing Heavy on a single backrow to pitching an Atlantean and not getting its effect makes no sense. How is a +0 comparable to a -1? We know nothing bout how Pendulum Summoning is going to affect the game yet. It's currently a pretty shitty mechanic, going off the cards we have available to us, the same as XYZ and Synchros were when they first dropped. In addition we aren't getting the new mechanic until August. We have an entire format between now and that release. For purposes of the coming format, bringing Serpent back requires actual, relevant hits to be made to Mermails to avoid making them even more consistently dominate. I'm not sure what you are exactly replying to in the first sentence but no they aren't, one of the Atlanteans is a searcher on Battle Phase and it can be a more useful topdeck than Serpent much of the time. They are still pretty consistent so that's hardly an issue, and over a grind game Atlanteans help you get stuff out of the way to have less to grind at. You miss the point that I'm not comparing Heavy on itself to the Atlanteans or Serpent. You having situations where X card is not as useful as other times is pretty much standard for every card so that point seems pretty moot. Atlanteans sometimes get pitched with no effects, Heavy sometimes gets wasted out of need, and Sinister is too underwhelming when you have nothing to use it on. Japan is getting it's Starter deck in around a month and it's first new gen booster in 2 months. That's plenty close to analyze the mechanic on itself and try to (hear keyword here) PREDICT. You know it won't stay a bad mechanic and that's not even a debatable point.

What we know so far is that the mechanic sucks until we get Pendulum monsters that are useful. Obviously Konami will break the game again at some point with them but for now it's meaningless. Also, Pendulum monsters won't be a constant stream of self-recycling plus, at least so far as the revealed examples show. You were the one that brought up Atlanteans in the first place saying they were +1s when they aren't. Serpent serves an entirely different purpose and in serving that purpose it provides more advantage than Atlanteans do. I never said they weren't consistent, I said they weren't as consistently a plus as Sinister is and that Sinister alone provides more cost mitigation over a grind game than anything in the deck. Every card has situations where it's good or bad. Sinister would just be so vital to the deck that even though it's a horrid topdeck when both players have run out of resources, it's still preferable to, say, a second Heavy Infantry or a third Marksman. The amount of plus it can provide to Mermails as they are now is too high to merit it coming off the list. This has nothing to do with Pendulum summons because we're talking about Mermails in this format. If Pendulum summons turn out totally busted, then sure Serpent isn't as big a deal. Also, Pendulum monsters won't be a constant stream of self-recycling plus, at least so far as the revealed examples show. This is a prediction thread, so Pendulum has everything to do with it. The revealed examples are just training wheels. If what I bolded is true, then there is room to try to predict what's gonna happen in the future. The mechanic is defined and explained well enough for this. You were the one that brought up Atlanteans in the first place saying they were +1s when they aren't. I never said they weren't consistent, I said they weren't as consistently a plus as Sinister is and that Sinister alone provides more cost mitigation over a grind game than anything in the deck. If I said +1 at some point, I apologize for that mistake, but I bring them up because they are also cost-dodgers. Sinister will become a +1, but not until next turn, until then it's a -1, greatly depending on the duration of the Duel to see how much of a + it can really get to be. There's also not a particular FTK out there that benefits more on discarding Sinister Serpent over anything else as far as I've seen. Every card has situations where it's good or bad. Sinister would just be so vital to the deck that even though it's a horrid topdeck when both players have run out of resources, it's still preferable to, say, a second Heavy Infantry or a third Marksman. Ultravires
There's a lot of crazy shit Konami can do with Pendulums if we just take a look at how Planeswalkers work. That doesn't mean we can speculate with any accuracy at this point with all of two cards revealed. Who said anything about FTKs? This isn't Night Assailant. I'd potentially rather top Sinister for a recycling wall if mutual topdecking is occurring.
Sleepy
There's a lot of crazy s*** Konami can do with Pendulums if we just take a look at how Planeswalkers work. That doesn't mean we can speculate with any accuracy at this point with all of two cards revealed. Who said anything about FTKs? This isn't Night Assailant. I'd potentially rather top Sinister for a recycling wall if mutual topdecking is occurring. Pendulums are not Plainswalkers. They have no inherent way of getting off play, depend on card-removal to get rid of them, have no boss-like effect alternatives (just monster/spell division, both of which are accessible from the get go), needs more than 1 to make them fully work, among other differences. Including the biggest one, the core mechanic's way of working helps pointing the direction of where these new cards are gonna be going. It has literally nothing to do. Also: -Thread's OP is about prediction -Comes into the thread saying prediction is pointless You don't seem to understand where you are here. I'm not asking for people to suggest their 10 newest Pendulum creations from the RC section and tell me they'll be part of the game for sure. It barely takes adding 1 and 1 together to figure out how decks will work under the Pendulum mechanic for consistent advantage. Have you even bothered reading about it? Who said anything about Night Assailant? That last bit is your opinion simplified to death. Recycling a wall that will take your Normal Summon is not a broken play, and depending on the situation, and I repeat depending on the situation, you might want to go offensive instead, since that's you know, what wins games? werewolfjedi
well pen summons are going to get a free +1 every turn once they are set up, since pens go to the extra deck, of course, that requires setup. there isn't anything this card helps with that should need something like this. basically it's ether useless or broken. and if there is no way to use a card without just trying to break it, it shouldn't come off the ban-list, regardless if it's overpowered or underpowered in the current game state.
