Oh come on people, you can't be serious.

At this point in time, near the end of the Xyz era, after years of being the center of the game.

Nonononono..

 

Xyz Materials had to be ruled to not be treated as cards on the field anymore, partly because potential abuse of effects that count the number of something on the field could have a field day with them. Also because if they were monsters "on the field" that means that your Xyz Materials are still usable for other Summon shenanigans. It makes sense to me that they'd work the way they do.

 

There's also how the Synchro era had hyper-speed easy access to sending to the Graveyard, to the point of "I can use x3 Pot of Avarice in my first turn", and thus effects like Sangan's needed to be held back and the new mechanic needed to move in a different way than the previous one.

Of course Sangan's newfound searcher overcame the intended drawback of not wanting to use him as an Xyz Material somehow so he still had to be banned, but that's another thing.

 

 

Could Konami have made it work in an arbitrary way that negated the above abuses? Absolutely, but it'd be more forced and literally BKSS. You need to be able to reason out how stuff works as much as possible in these games you know?
