Anti-Spell Fragrance

Recommended Posts

So, this classic-era card completely and utterly shits all over the Pendulum mechanic.

Both players must Set Spell Cards before activating them, and cannot activate them until their next turn.

As for why, I'll just let CapitalG tell that, since he's how I found out.

[spoiler='In case the video failed']

  • Pendulums in the Pendulum Zones count as Spells.
  • Anti-Spell Fragrance forces you to Set a Spell before it can activate.
  • Pendulums cannot be played in the P-Zone face-down.
  • Ergo, Anti-Spell Fragrance totally locks out any Pendulum plays.

ITV: Pendjulum Summon. Pendjulum. Pend. Jew. Lum. Some. Mun. This makes me feel uncomftrouble for some reason.

OT: I would like for them to make some rule that they can activate Pendulums because they aren't Spells until they hit the zone or something like that. For some reason, I feel like that the people who complain about this card's synergy with Dark Simorgh being too stronk will pressure them to just ban this. It's not really a bad move though, since shutting down your opponent's entire backrow is pretty dumb and only exists still because it doesn't do anything relevant. But still, just rule that ASF doesn't stop the Pendjulum stuff.

Was told the same thing on DN, by some troll named ssjgogeta1992

*head-desk*
THAT guy?
Ugh.

For once a card kills a summon mechanic released instead of the other way around.

That would be a first.

Pretty sure it'll be ruled in a way that it does not, in fact, shut down Pendulums, given that it is impossible to set Pendulum Spells. Would probably just get errata'd to say so.

I dunno' Black. It might be Xyzs all over again, in the sense that they run off made-up lazy-as-fu.ck rules, and then get "fixed" after like the first 2-3 months
(Pardon my language, of course)

It better not get banned. Just ordered two in anticipation for Starduston's arrival in the TCG.

It might get hit if I wreck enough faces with that, though.

I said the same thing about Sixth Sense

look where I am now

Nah this really won't get a ban.

If you can tell me you can get away with not running spells then most of the time you take the hit as hard as the opponent.

Most of the time.

I don't know. When Xyz's were first introduced, I was pretty sure it was already explained in the OCG that their materials aren't considered to be on the field, it was just a bad ruling in the TCG that they weren't for a time. I might be misremembering, though. I was taking another break around that time.

The main thing is, with Dustons, once we get Staruduston we dont really need the speed of activating our spells the turn we draw them. Most often by the time i'm ready to flip fragrance, I have essential control of the gamestate and just need the Opti-Camo to end it. Thus, I can stand to wait a turn.

(Also, for random records, I bought sixth sense as well, knowing it would be banned. Powered up my Chaos Dragons for the regionals, though :D)

It certainly slows spellbooks down a bit, unless they get Priestess.

it shuts them down as they wont be able to use their shit since youll pop stuff with hunting ground

priestess is a problem but usually if you use this early game the only way to get spellbooks in grave is on 2nd turn and by then you can setup cards to stop their field etc.

They can also banish from the hand for Priestess, but yeah.
