Your first impressions of first Pendulum testing

Recommended Posts

Also, ITT, would you think their concept would be too gimmicky to be worth it if it only Summoned 1 monster OR even 1 of each (Extra Deck and hand) per turn?

------

Leaving aside if you want to answer the above question or not, what's your current opinion about them as a whole now that they've been testable for a couple of days.

To me, the core mechanic is pretty clever in how you need to get 2 pieces and at least a third somewhat matching one to start it off, and that the abuse swarm will not get, well . . . abusive, until later in the Duel when several Pendulums reside in the Exta Deck. If you think about it, it's sort of like the philosophy of battles in MTG in how they have to start smaller, with the exploding valves gradually being released as the game moves forward. That said, I still find the level of swarming it does to be too much of a reward, and so I label it as the most BS aspect of it.

At least in theory....

I've been watching videos with them being used and it's pretty much hand to field every turn and getting advantage back.

Then I used them myself and not even Pendulum Dragon helps me draw into them quick enough in casual decks.

Pendulum Summons eat away at the hand hard.  On the positive side, if a player fills the Pendulum Zones with monsters of extreme scales, then every Deck can play like Six Sams/LS/Dragons/Whatever other Decks like to drop their hand onto the field.

I just know they're gonna make a pendulum searcher/s one of these days. and then the entire concept will lose all hope of balance for a format.

Pendulums will only be relevant enough if they either make archetypes with lots of them or give them real easy searchers.

Extra Deck monsters were always available with easy conditions, but Pendulums are something you have to draw into, or search into in order to complete the arc consistently enough without flooding the game with Pendulums.

To be honest, Odd-Eyes is a wonderful searcher slash safety net. You lose a Pendulum and a toy that could contribute to preventing you from getting OTKd next turn, for a Pendulum from your Deck that you are only getting during your End Phase.

The name "Pendulum" is really fitting.
Once you get the momentum you need in the form of the 2 Pendulums, it's hard to stop.
