I agree that the amount could be lower, considering it's just words and not that he actually did anything physical to him. Though it's not the first time this happened, so that may explain why the penalty is high. Personally, banning him from games and a lower fine would be enough; loss of supporters and scorn fills in the rest. Shows that racism is not acceptable, especially when MANY NBA stars are black. Granted, he didn't use any racial slurs. If he did, then I'd probably agree with the NBA's sanctions w/out doubt. Then again, they should've stepped in earlier if this was already prevalent. But as Yin mentioned football; this is something I was shown by a mate yesterday that happened in a game at the weekend in response to a racist incident, and it's worth posting somewhere here. This has sparked a huge anti-racism campaign in the football world, #weareallmonkeys is still probably trending on Twitter. Lots of major clubs showing their support for Dani Alves. Love his reaction though. Cunt who threw the banana was banned for life and Dani got a healthy dose of potassium before his team went on to win after being 2-0 down. Lovely. One of the common insults I've seen thrown at him is redneck. You're insulting people from a geographical location that he's not even a part of. It's kind of hypocritical. The NBA has its own rules and bylaws, and i think a constitution, that gives them courses of action. I don't know why someone that didn't like black people would own an NBA team. He owns a basketball team for the same 4 reasons anyone does anything - chicks, money, power and chicks. He wasn't fired, they have banned him for life though. The big deal is that he is extremely close minded, and "in 2011 was composed of 78 percent black players, 17 percent whites, four percent Latinos, and one percent Asian" (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_and_ethnicity_in_the_NBA) To have an owner who spews hate shows the fans, players, coachs, and the rest of the NBA that they dont care about them, only for profit. Considering he had a half black girlfriend and is charge of a team, that's in a sport, with mostly Black People; people were shocked by that, but should they be? No matter how progressive this country thinks it is, there will be racists and bigots in power or somewhere else. Just because people elected a Black President, and apparently by someone Europe didn't, doesn't mean it will stop racists. After viewing so many stories that come out each year about racists saying stupid stuff, I've just usually say, "That's quite sad." Racism, as people have said, is not advertised, it's more secretive. I might as well enjoy stupid internet comments by some conservatives: "This man is only saying what's on his mind and he get's fired forward for it. That's trumping our 1st amendment rights, d@mn these liberals for forcing him out." By some liberals: "This racist, disgusting, and redneck jerk is bringing down Black People and should burn in hell for all eternity. D@mn these white conservatives." Plus some who love to say this: " OH, YOU'RE FIRING SOMEONE FOR SAYING WHAT'S ON THEIR MIND, WELL THANK YOU THOUGHT POLICE. This nation has become a country who are too offended and love being politically correct. People should have tougher skin, especially Black people. Also, if this was a Black coach saying this about white people, he would NEVER been have fired, you're f******* hypocrites civil rights leaders and Black people."
