bury the year
Since EDH seems to be a thing that more and more people are playing, I'm curious to see what kinds of decks people play. Myself:Yeva, Nature's Herald - Green control. Dies to Torpor Orb.Pharika, God of Affliction - Constellation!control with a side helping of token spam. Tends to slow games to a crawl when she comes out. There are 8 or so people in my playgroup (including me) with the following commanders between them:Rhys the Redeemed - Token and anthem spam. Is never played in any game above 4 people.Nicol Bolas - Cruel control.Thassa, God of the Sea - "I suddenly have 20+ cards in hand and don't know what to do with them." This is heard a lot.Gisela, Blade of Goldnight - Double damage = not so much fun for others.Teneb, the Harvester - Doesn't see play much.Kresh the Bloodbraided - Doesn't see play much.Progenitus - 5C god tribal.Vaevictus Asmadi - Group chaos with dragons!Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer - Group hug.Krenko, Mob Boss - Goblin tribal. Similar to Rhys in efficiency.Prime Speaker Zegana - All over the place, really, but likes big butts. Trying to make it into Maro tribal.Xenagos, God of Revels - Suddenly, Eldrazi. Eldrazy everywhere.Trostani, Selesnya's Voice - Lifegain spam.Erebos, God of the Dead - "No, you can't have those creatures. Or that life. Or anything, really."Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius - Made specifically not to abuse Izzet 1.0.Oloro, Ageless Ascetic - Play lands, extort, profit.Child of Alara - Maze's End/Fog theme.Kaalia of the Vast - Standard Kaalia build. Nothing extraordinarily odd.Hanna, Ship's Navigator - The only deck with any infinite combos. Routinely gets hated off the table.
Simping For Hina
Sharuum - Esper Combo. Dies to Graveyard hate. Karn - Colorless Control. Kiki-Jiki - Suprise MoFo, I still lose.
Rodrigo
Maelstrom Wanderer - Combo and Goodstuff. Wins quickly and consistently, with the combo or without. Rhys the Redeemed - Tokens, because I love them. Oloro, Ageless Ascetic - The focus here isn't the lifegain, it's the control. Can win out of nowhere with Sorin and Magister Sphinx. Prossh, Skyraider of Kher - More tokens, this time I want them to die. Aurelia, the Warleader - Voltron, but it's very weak since I don't have many quality cards for this archetype. Nekusar the Mindrazer - Wheel of Fortune, gg.
Trebuchet MS
Nekusar, the Mindrazer - My only complete Commander Deck. Group Hugs and draws galore. Also because I've grown to loathe Rhystic Study. Has a lot of trouble in 1v1. Tromokratis - Under construction. Coughs out big creatures while crapping all over the opponents' manabases to lift islandhome effects. Designed for flavour and ability to fight 1v1. What I see in my playgroup in university: Prossh OTK - Cast Prossh, grant haste, eat the tokens, double strike, game by commander damage. Possible because of XenaGod. Sharrum feat. Infinite Turns - Time Sieve, Myr Battlesphere, sadness goes on the stack. Isperia Despairia - "Did I hear someone having fun?" Uses many cards that severely restrict everyone's actions. Glissa - Kills stuff, recurs artifacts. Equip with Thornbite Staff and Viridian Longbow to murder everything. Derevi - Bird is the word. Less annoying than other Derevi Decks because it's designed strictly with bird flavour. Still a pain to handle. Uril 'tron - Let him resolve and people tend to die. Gift him with Immortality and cry. Jarad Reanimators - Dredge dredge dredge dredge dredge Jeleva Chaos - Screws with everyone via Possibility Storm while being largely unaffected by it. Niv Mizzet, the Firemind - Once Firemind's Foresight happens, it will go for Reiterate-Reset-Shock to kill everyone. Otherwise, Enter the Infinite with Firemind. Karona's God Complex - Every Theros God, along with hybrid-mana Avatars to activate them. Kills people with Karona armed up with all the Avatar weaponry. Wrexial/Mirko Vosk/Lazav - Largely doesn't matter who's in the commander seat because the Deck is still the same regardless. Death by milling and having your things stolen from your graveyard. Melek - Copying all the things. Riku/Animar - Same deck that can alternate between both commanders. Ramps to no end, sometimes resulting in lots of lands with nothing to create, but when it summons big things... Niv Mizzet, Dracogenius Chaos - More interested in enchantments that screw with everyone. Traumatize on a Hive Mind followed by Wild Ricochet. Zur, the Enchanter - Didn't play against this much, but it gets dirty looks from everyone. For good reason, perhaps. Kemba-tron - aka Crazy Cat Lady. One Chaos Warp and he's boned. Sliver Overlord - All the old Slivers. The only non-permanent card it has is Primal Surge. Vorel - Earned infamy with a game where he Cyclonic Rifted nonstop. SwitcheRoon - Never witnessed, but as predicted, flickers everywhere. XenaGod - Every creature is a major threat. Life's Finale mill is near-pointless. Purphoros/Krenko - Both enter the field and everyone gangs up on it. And it still wins. Gratuitous Violence with an active Purphoros = massive damage. (GigaDrillBreaker)
My group is pretty dang casual, to be quite honest. Frankly, I am happy with it the way it is. Mine: Melek, Izzet Paragon: combo combo combo combo combo Phage, the Untouchable: Mono-black control, with the coolest win-con ever Anax and Cymede: Make tokens, trigger heroic a few times, ?????, profit Ruric Thar: Basic Gruul beatdown Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind: Looks like simple Izzet control. Then it wins. Tromokratis: mono-blue control with a voltron win condition Ashling, the Pilgrim: Group chaos. My Friends': Karametra, God of Harvests: Ramp into big stuff, which then ramps into bigger stuff, etc. Kruphix, God of Horizons: Ramp into x-spells and other big stuff Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir: Mono-blue control. Gets hated off the board routinely Shattergang Brothers: Jund control... only now do I realize there is a ton of control in my playgroup... Prossh, Skyraider of Kher: Voltron. Very unfunny. Jhoira of the Ghitu: The fattest fatties you ever saw Nekusar, the Mindrazer: I built this for him. Have you ever seen Hive Mind with Nekusar? You don't. Geth, Lord of the Vault: Mono-black combo thing. Super cool. Daxos of Meletis: Lifegain control
