Grades

Depends on the schools you're talking about.

That, and also the classes you're taking.

Some classes, yes, are easy As (provided you put in a decent amount of effort to do), like English/writing and probably some history stuff [depending on content]; others like most science/mathematics require you to bust your ass to the limit. Language too, depending on how well you can pick it up + the difficulty of it to begin with.

On a sidenote, I no longer have to take physics for the rest of my college career; hell yeah; especially because electric physics pissed me off all semester and made me hope I get a D and receive credit for the class [which I did]. Yeah, just don't get an F and credit is received; advisor won't be happy about it to some degree, but he should know how hard the courses are and I explicitly told him about what was going on.

English classes can kick you're ass though if you don't actually put in the time to do the readings and think through them.

The only reason they're considered easier is because memorizing ideas and themes are so much easier than memorizing terms and definitions.

Care to open this wider to discussing their importance, do you believe that they should hold the weight they do, and other things like that?

Sure sure.

I think it holds some, but it definitely should not be held as a strict threshold.

I actually talked to an alumni from my university who was a hotshot on Wall Street earlier this year because of assorted shenanigans, but the point is he was really busy and he took time to talk to me for 20 minutes. And amongst the stuff he told me, he said that he doesn't expect college graduates to know exactly what they're doing when they're hired. What he looks for is that they are able to synergize with the company and pick things up as they go about the job until they get it.

Grades matter, but they shouldn't make or break a deal.

Got AAB at A-Levels. Now I'm at uni I'm doing ok so far, but there's not much to go on. Got a 1st (the equivalent of an A) in one of my tests but only just passed another, but I was one of the relatively few to actually pass.

The education system is ok here in England, but there are definitely big problems. For starters, they want pretty much everyone to go to University, which lowers standards, decreases graduate vacancies and leaves us with the need to import people to do lower-skilled work. Also the fees are absolutely ridiculous and the government completely messed up with the repayment method, leaving absolutely everyone worse off, including the government themselves.

i hate you. i don't study either. usually pass, but if i don't i'll probably fail the s*** out of it.

Thanks for the hate I guess. The closest I get to studying is listening in class and helping out classmates that don't understand the material.

Grades mean absolutely nothing. Contemporary schooling systems in itself is a pretty stupid concept.

I was actually coming in to post my ideas, of which they were very similar to this.

When you're actually working you'll see they're not nearly the most important thing. Things like vital skills and work experience would end up being waaaay more helpful in the end. Also knowing how to ration money is pretty good.

I'm a sophomore in high school. My grades range from A+ to B+, so I'm a really good student. Although, last year, in Spanish, I got a A average, I kinda of dropped to B+ average because it is a higher level (Spanish 3, possibly next year AP). The system might be different because I go to a private high school, but I still get really good grades!

More power to you, but be careful. From my experience of four years in public school and then one in private school, marks are inflated in private systems to keep customers satisfied (paying parents) and it's quite a bit harder to make good grades in public schools where teachers aren't nearly as forgiving. I'm sure you'll do fine, but it's something to be wary of when you reach post-secondary to avoid a rude awakening.

Well, that's kind of true, but trust me, my teachers are not forgiving at all. They'll take points away if your assignment is late. And plus, I'm a artsy student and the private school that I go to  is one of the best when it comes to that. By artsy, we learn a lot more about theatre, film, and music. That's what I want to do when I grow up. I want to be a movie actress and learn a lot of things about the Hollywood business or theatre business.

And I'm kinda of used to it because I've been going to private schools my whole life, but thanks for the input, POLARIS, but like you said, "I'll be wary" :D .

They're supposed to take points away. My teachers won't accept it if its late, giving it a 0, so be happy. When you're in a job, you can't be late with everything, so they try to enforce it in school
