Cards You Hate To Play Against - Discussion

Recommended Posts

It's a card I don't like seeing, and this thread is for people to post cards they don't like seeing. Therefore, Silent Honor ARK for me :/. Why's that such a surprise?

Probably because most mentions are cards that outright shut down a strategy or Deck, or screws you over in ridiculous ways, or indicates that the opponent is running a high-end meta Deck, whereas 101, by comparison, is rather tame. It's not that it's a bad choice, but it stands out as being a minor thing compared to the rest.

Whoa, what?

101 is an absolutely healthy card, and you're complaining that it takes out unfair cards? 101's not even good anymore, but it's still a fine and healthy design. The only issue is that Castel exists and nearly 100% outclasses it.

I'm sorry if someone else in the thread said something like this, too, I just didn't read anything before my post, bar the OP.

you missed a herald.dek masterpiece fyi

I absolutely hate ALL Nekroz decks.

They are sooooo boring.

Also,

This is SO counterable its not even funny, this barely ever sticks unless you use demolisher with it.

Most decks auto-run raigeki and snatch steal etc so its really not that hard to remove.

Clearly you've never sat on the other end of Clausolas doubling as Jowgen.

Tbf that isn't very tough to break, or at least, not as unbreakable as people make it out to be.

But it can be something to not like going up against which is ok.

it's part of why Book of Eclipse is a good card.

You know it's a sad day when Book of Eclipse becomes a good card.

On topic, though, I freaking hate Skill Drain.  It may not be generic like other floodgate cards, but it screws so many Decks over that it isn't even funny.

First on the list is Number 101: Silent Honor ARK. Being an lswarm and Fire Kings player, I absolutely HATE seeing this card. Being a staple in any deck that can get out two level 4's in one turn, I always see this card show its stupid face every turn after I summon Ophion or Garunix.

If you're losing that many games to 101, it may be time to play some protection. Back when it came out it was super annoying, but you should have learned to deal with it by now.

Hehehe. His anti-destruction effect has won me a couple games.

vanity's emptiness. it's easy to get rid of yes, but many of the people I face know exactly when to play it to elicit maximum salt.

while it's banned now, super poly was very high on my list while it existed, and not that heroes have a one sided macro AND a feather duster, I've begun disliking them.

qliphort are starting to get on my radar, but I actually haven't lost to them enough to care atm.

on a side not, bad reaction is no longer on my list, since a few days ago I managed to chain a MST to the back of 2 gift cards.

Maybe it's just me being a nostalgic noob, but I can't for the life of me imagine how blowing up your own monsters and being rewarded with searches and removal is a good thing.

He's not saying it is, but BA most certainly do not reward you for haphazard or poor playing.

I dislike playing against yugioh cards. This game has gotten so self-destructive that making a list would take too long. I mean, the game itself is cool, but the cards in it... what the fuck was konami thinking?

A card shouldn't need to be unfair to be good.

Wrong.

A game should most definitely have unfair cards. If everything is fair, there is no point in playing, as there is no edge to play Deck A over Deck B. Yeah, you can say 'playstyle', but that wears off after a while if the game is just completely even.

Unfair cards are healthy so long as they don't dip into Toxic, which I do believe is what you intended with your post, as opposed to what you said.

A toxic card is something like Nekroz of Trishula or Number 95. An unfair card is something like Performapal Pendulum Wizard, Edge Imp Chain/Frightfur Sheep, and... I could go on but there's very little in the top decks that can be pinned as closer to unfair than toxic in this regard in this sense. The problem is that power creep causes the level of toxic to rise as the level of unfair rises, though some things remain toxic with time.

And speaking of, the Anime support for Arc-V is actually a very fun set of cards, overall. There are flaws, but they're much better game design than the ZeXal Anime support.

You seem to be under the impression that I said "games shouldn't have unfair cards". That is not what I said. What I said was "a card shouldn't need to be unfair to be good". Additionally, you seem to be acting like there is a set definition for "unfair" and that it is a technical term, neither of which is an accurate supposition.

My point was pretty much that for a card to really be usable in the meta at this point, it has to break the game in some way, which really is just (hot word incoming, brace yourself) bad design that leads to nothing more than power creep. Of course, due to the non-rotating, banlist-sculpted nature of the game as a whole, this is really an unavoidable situation that we have to deal with. Each set makes the game more and more degenerate as a whole, otherwise there is no reason for players to buy new cards.

To be honest, I don't think we are in disagreement on the matter, and I simply think you misunderstood my point as a whole.

Tl;dr yugioh has powercreeped to the point that balanced cards are bad, but there is nothing we can do about it so me complaining is pointless.
