The not-so-vicious refreshing cycle of YCM.

Ok, here I go as I explain my view of what I mean by the title.

Its funny that when your first starting using YCM it feels fresh and new, but then it becomes boring, and sometimes when you leave for a bit and come back (like I did), it feels fresh again like in the beginning, probably having to do something with the happy feeling you get when you go back to doing something you once enjoyed. Its like a cycle that you can only experience by going through what I did - starting out then going to the part when the boring part gets to you, quitting because of it (or because of other things) and then returning to the start of the cycle again by going back.

You guys can feel free to discuss this little story of mine, or share your own if you've gone through something similar, even if it didn't involve YCM.

Thanks, cr47t

I feel the same way everytime I do something which I haven't been active at for a long time.

It's not that something is boring, it's that you invest a lot of time at it, getting bored. More or less like having a non-changing, repetitive work but being something relaxing. Like when I've been playing PC games many hours every day but suddenly stopped and played after 2 weeks! Now that I think of it, I could've done something more creative, but that's another thing...  :/

Same happened with YGOPro. For a couple weeks, I would play even 2 hours a day (luckily, not every day). Till now, I haven't dueled yet. Probably because I have other stuff to do, but even so...

The important thing is to never lose interest in something you really enjoy doing. Being frantic with it is bad, but being faithful is good.

Never really had this, for me there's always something new. Even it takes some time. I check many times a day and I manage to find some cool stuff.

...

I may be easy to please though, I dunno.

That's good-you keep your joy and well-being up. However, don't be the type of person who merely accepts everything, e.g. eating the same stuff every day or continuously doing tasks for others. Without noticing, you depress yourself and lose interests through time.

Or be a pro and sit through it all =D

Correct, but with a tiny difference: I AM a pro.  :)

I'm a prime example of this as I've quit and come back half a dozen times or so, with varying levels of activity until I inevitably quit again. I'm like that with a lot of stuff, so it's not too surprising, although I do feel it happens especially much with YCM.

i havent really taken long breaks from YCM except for the one time that i left for a few years around 2009-2012 or something like that, im not 200% sure

YCM has its moments as well as its boring share, though i try to sit through the boredom phase since its worth it once things get actually interesting

I don't really have that feeling. When I came back I don't know if I was expecting more than I should have, but this forums feels boring these days.

Yeah, this place is pretty boring now. The majority of activity is from either veterans who have a really close-knit group that is so exclusive you can't really get into it or from people who know nothing about Yu-Gi-Oh (talking about the TCG section, which constitutes most of my activity). This means very few interesting things happen and discussion is stale.

I sadly could never really get back into YCM once I left 4 years ago. I think it has to do with the shrinkage of the memberbase, which consequently meant many of the people I had known left. It began to feel like a whole new forum, and I was suddenly an outsider on a site that I had frequented for 5 years.
