So Ive been starting a series called Kamen Rider Drive. Ive found it to be enjoyable, then I saw this...

Kamen Rider Drive with a Sentai Ninja.. Police vs Ninjas. I liked it plus its made me hopeful for the new Kamen Rider movie.

Oh yes, Dr. D. was an actual character from the first Kamen Rider series in 1971.

ALL YOU NEED IS DRIVE

sadly no, i haven't been following this. ever since i finished gaim nothing kinda lives up to it.

Yea, VERY few things can live up to Gaim. When Drive started I CERTAINLY had "this is good, but its no Gaim" feeling. After a few episodes though, I settled in and I've really enjoyed it. Me and TAG watch it together and we both agree it good. His problem with it atm is that the lead villains don't do anything, which is certainly fair. That and all the damn cars, I'm less bothered by the villains but good god, so many cars. Over all I still do find the villain group really interesting, I really like the primary cast, and think it has some interesting themes.

Gaim was that good?
(Not being insulting, just wondering, my only exposure is the Kikaider crossover and that was because I like Kikaider.)

Gaim is god tier. Gen Urobuchi was the person writing it, and the dude writes gold.

Yeah, Gaim's pretty much my reason too why I haven't followed Drive. I'm just waiting for my Gaim aftereffect to fade a bit before catching up to Drive since I'm worried that I'd compare it unfairly to Gaim too much.

Though, from what I hear, Drive's pretty nice so I think I'll check out on it soon.

As I said, I had the problem too when it started. It should fade a little once you settle in and the story gets going. I said a couple problems, but its really enjoyable so its worth a watch. I might get TAG to show up here since he loves talking Toku and he can give more thoughts.

Speaking of "last series affect my feeling" issues. I had the same with Ninninger when that started. I REALLY like ToQger and couldn't really get into Nin. However, after the first few episodes passed and that feeling wasn't there as much, I still feel like its not that strong. It has potential (I liked the Ninninger half of the crossover), but still not feeling it.

On that note, I wonder if we should make a Ninninger/Super Sentai/Toku Thread. Seems like we have a decent number of fans of the material and I'd enjoy being able to talk about it with others.

Just say "tokusatsu" three times, and I magically appear.

Gaim is awesome, Drive is pretty good (though I think the villains are a decently significant problem, mostly Heart), and Ninninger I personally find disappointing so far.

I just hope we'll se Mr. Titan as a real villain soon, he is the best enemy and with Shadow could make for some laughs.

How familiar are you with older Kamen Rider series?  I've been mildly interested in dabbling in something like Kamen Rider Black.

To answer your question TAG, quite familiar actually, familiar enough to attempt a Showa Kamen Rider Archetype, I realized my attempts made them too OP. I would suggest the original Kamen Rider to start, its campy and short but quite enjoyable.

and this is Titans human form

then his Kaiju form

He's my favorite villain, ever, seriously dont get his suit dirty or you'll regret life, and he's hammy.

Before I watch Drive is there a Micchi like character, 'cause if there is that will be another character I really want to kill.

No. Micchi was a special character in regards to how you come to hate him.

Anyway, watched the new episode of Drive. Really good stuff. More interesting ideas being brought up as well as some interesting changes to how things are going to play out starting now. I will say I don't like the ending "next time" clips since they can have huge spoilers, like the one for this episodes and the next one.

I'd be down with watching the original Kamen Rider (and Goranger, for that matter) sometime.  Would be neat to see where it all began.

wish granted for Goranger

I'd kinda like to be able to have the whole series (or at least almost all of it) under my belt before I start watching, personally.

  • 4 weeks later...

all 84 episodes, are ya nuts?!?! Ultraman I can see happening, and it has but Toei shows are less popular sub wise for some reason.

TAG has been going through tons of back logs of Toku. He wants to collect them all.

Anyway, I have to say in the last month the series has REALLY picked up. The introduction of 001 has been really enjoyable.
