玄魔の王
The issue isn't with Serpentine Princess though. The whole "can't show the card" thing started with cards like Tengu, Tengu is the ruling issue, not Princess. That's just how the game rolls though. Except that Serpentine Princess compounds the issue by virtue of her effect existing, and making it unclear WHY it doesn't work to younger or inexperienced players. It's extremely hard to get somebody to understand HOW a card interaction works if you can't explain WHY it does. Giga explained this exact point earlier: Of course it works. I don't think that was really contested from the start. The real issue in this system of rules and exceptions is that it is more difficult to explain to players less familiar with the rules how things work, with Reborn Tengu hit by PWWB an excellent example. You can tell the player that effects cannot activate in the deck, but they can just use chase examples like Serpentine Princess to argue their point.Having so many exceptions to admittedly obscure rules is messy design in general. I understand you don't like talking about design, but things like this make rulings harder for less experienced players to grasp without adopting the mindset of "Konami can and will disagree with themselves, and you need to get used to it." That last sentence is especially important, because it's hard to teach rules to people if they get the sense those rules may not stand up over time. But it works like that in every single cardgame. Standard rules always apply, UNLESS a card directly conflicts them. Then the card text takes precedence over the rules. This isn't about card text vs rules, it's about rulings running contrary to existing effects in the same. That's way harder to explain to people. I really don't get the issue. Ruling is Tengu can't activate from deck. Meanwhile this SPECIFICALLY STATES IT ACTIVATES IN DECK. Like why is this even. Then go ahead, try explaining that to a new player and then justifying to them why sometimes effects are able to override the base rules of the game, and other times rulings get to contradict established patterns with effects, and why that ruling is the way it is. Not-so-Radiant Arin
So this card literally only exists to combo with Shuffle Reborn? Or is there something I'm missing?
玄魔の王
So this card literally only exists to combo with Shuffle Reborn? Or is there something I'm missing? It's a way old card that was apparently made in anticipation of more cards that shuffle stuff into the deck existing, but that never happened for some reason. Really it just shows how many missed opportunities there are in this game.

I'd approve of a Reptile-typed theme based on returning cards to the Deck :)BTW, I just found out that this card's original name is simply Naga. What's with early TCG and their insistence on changing the names of monsters inspired on real mythical creatures? Ex.: Minotaur and Centaur becoming Battle Ox and Mystic Horseman, respectively. Tinkerer
^ Wait, really? Those were the original names? What was Rabid Horseman's original name then? As for the Serpentine Princess, I built a deck around her on YGOpro after seeing this thread. Unfortunately, I found it extremely difficult to get this card consistently while at the same time hoping to use its effect, well, effectively. Of course, I have yet to try it out with Shuffle Reborn, but it looks interesting. Again, the best way to get it in-hand is through King of the Feral Imps, but when it gets shuffled, it brings out level 3 or lowers, rather than 4s for the Feral Imp. Minocentaur, since it's a combination of a Minotaur with a Centaur. Also, Feral Imp = Gremlin.

Horn Imp is just "Imp", for example. And Ryu-Kishin (which can be translated as "Dragon Ogre God") is just "Gargoyle".

And Ryu-Kishin (which can be translated as "Dragon Ogre God") is just "Gargoyle".That's because in the early days the game had more of a traditional fantasy vibe, much like its direct inspiration, Magic The Gathering, and classical RPG settings like those from D&D. Personally, I didn't like it that they had to complicate such simple and well-established concepts like gargoyles or cyclops for silly reasons like translation conventions (back then, they used to turn all names already in English in the OCG into Japanese ones; that's why we've got Raigeki instead of Thundetbolt, for example) and etc.
