 “Monster…”

A word that people call those in this life who have either done horrendous acts or those who cannot and could not live within our society…

In the world of Grimm, there has always been two species of sentient beings of life: Humans and the Jaegers. The Jaegers, they were the beings that humans shunned and thought lower of. They came from backgrounds of that of creatures that roamed this world before, but the humans only referred to them as of nothing but…”monsters”, creatures not fit to roam the world they had. How we wish we truly knew what monsters where back then…

Before the turn of the century, something was uncovered within the southern part of Grimm, in the region of Wilhelm…something we were never to uncover. Released upon Grimm were the creatures and monsters that haunted the deepest depths of our minds: Lobos. These creatures of darkness descended upon Grimm and began to plunge it into everlasting darkness. The true fate of the world of Grimm rests within the palms of the very ones the humans labeled “monsters”…it lies with the Jaegers.

The Jaegers, in essence, are descendants of the creatures that roamed Grimm in the before age…the Protectors of Grimm. And with the Lobos returning to wreak havoc upon the world…what better to combat them…then a “monster”?

As you listen to your own heart and mind, you shall engage the world that shunned you, and protect them from this darkness. Humans shall aid you when they can, whilst others shall turn their backs upon you as they’ve done before. Still…one thing is deathly clear: Grimm needs its protectors, it needs you.

[spoiler=Plot:]

Welcome to the world of Grimm, a world based in the Victorian era. It is here that two races of sentient beings reside: humans and the Jaegers. The Jaegers are descendants of creatures that roamed the world of Grimm long before the modern day as its protectors. These creatures are often referred to as monsters...

Until the true monsters reemerged...the Lobos. Sealed away long ago by the Protectors of Grimm, the Lobos return due to an unforeseen turn of events and have begun wreaking havoc upon Grimm.

The RP places this a month into the Lobos returning, so there will be these dark creatures roaming. Your place, is to fend off against these true monsters. Whether human or Jaeger, you must find the way to defeat these creatures once and for all...protect Grimm at all costs. With your characters, they shall be based upon characters within fairy tales, mythology, and legends (be it monster or human...it is your choice).

[spoiler=Database:]

Grimm Nights – The name of the RP. It is a play off the fact that the planet is named “Grimm”; however it is also a play on how one would say how something is very grim.

Grimm – The world in which this RP takes place. Its name is derived from the authors known only as the Grimm Brothers/Brothers Grimm. The setting of this world happens to be of the time frame that “D. Grayman” is based in. The regions are named based on either names or stories of from the Brothers Grimm or even fairy tale phrases and words. The world is divided into four main regional kingdoms:

  • Farway – The kingdom of Farway, which is to the north. This was home to a great family of Jaegers, but has now become a region that’s strong connection with the Jaeger hating family, the Gaston’s. The naming of this regional kingdom is based off the old phrase in fairy tales, “In a land far, far away”.
  • Foblé – The kingdom of Foblé, which is to the eastern part of Grimm. This is home to the part of the population that has both humans and Jaegers living together in harmony with each other. Because of this, it has been labeled a safe haven to all Jaegers. The naming of this regional kingdom is a corruption of the word “fable”.
  • Wilhelm – The kingdom of Wilhelm, which is in the southern part of the world. This is home to countless old age ruins of those before, as this was the first kingdom that civilization formed. This is also the location where the Lobos were uncovered and brought back to terrorize Grimm. The naming of this regional kingdom is based upon one of the names of the Grimm Brothers.
  • Epoch - The Kingdom of Epoch, which is the western part of the world of Grimm. This is where the human race was said to begin, as there are ancient ruins that depict that this was the starting point, before they traveled to Wilhelm. Epoch deals within military weapon creation, which is where everything is shipped from, as a result, this kingdom is a maritime one that deals with their business and livelihood on the waters that surround their peninsula. The name of the regional kingdom is actually based upon the fact of an “Epic Hero”, but Epoch itself is a period of time in history or a person’s life, typically one marked by notable events or particular characteristics. This is also a perfect name for it, since during the dawn of time, Epoch has slowly had points in history where they were marked by notable events.

Jaegers – The second race that takes residency here in Grimm. These are great descendants of the very first Jaegers that protected Grimm from the Lobos; however this meant that the humans began to label them as monsters. Jaegers have abilities in supernatural powers, magic, etc. than the humans do, hence why they are labeled monsters. The naming is the word “Hunter” in German, which is a play off the one Grimm Fairy Tale: “Little Red Riding Hood”.

Lobos – The ancient evil that was defeated long ago on Grimm. However, due to an expositional dig, this race of dark creatures was able to return to wreak havoc. As the name suggests, it is the Spanish word for “Wolves”, another hint at the story “Little Red Riding Hood”. However, this does not mean that all Lobos shall be in the form of wolves.

“It’s no use. All they can see me as…is a monster.”

Personal Information

Name: Abel Taurus

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Race: Jaeger

Based On: The Beast ~ Beauty & the Beast

[spoiler=Appearance:]

3269096_orig.jpg

(Minus both the gun and replace the blond hair with brown)

Abel stands at 5'8'' and weighs in at 153 lbs. His clothes, although depicted above, are a bit worn and seem faded as he has been traveling quite a number of distance. The hood from his jacket always remains over his head, and when down, people will be able to see the very obvious horns poking out from his brown hair.

[spoiler=Personality:]

If you think that Abel would be outgoing and friendly...then you have him confused with another.

The truth is, Abel is a complete shut-off, keeping to himself always just due to the fact of what he is: a monster. Because of this, he rarely knows at all what to say to those around him (and it is a possible reason why he tends to talk to inanimate objects sometimes). He is very quiet and fears many moves he makes within the world of Grimm. The only thing that had brought him out of this shell, was his love for Isabella Candace. She helped him slowly leave this shell of a man he was. But due to the fact that he had to run in order to save his life, he has returned straight into this former shell of his.

In battle, however, he actually acts the same at first. He doesn't want to hurt anyone around him, but if provoked, he will have no choice...and if continued...his true monstrous self shall emerge, and what happens next, is anyone's guess.

[spoiler=Biography:]

“You came…to listen to the Beast…?”

Abel comes from a long line of Jaegers that once lived in the region of Farway. His ancestors were known as Adam and Belle Taurus, a Jaeger father and a human mother. However, this family of Jaegers was not without its own issues. You see, Belle fell in love with Adam and not with the man her family wanted her to marry: Avenant Gaston. This began a blood feud with the Taurus’ and the Gaston’s, the Beasts versus these monstrous humans.

This feud went on through the years, until Abel arrived, living alone within Farway. His mother died during childbirth and he was forced to live and take care of himself on his own. It was a grueling work to survive in this world, but Abel did his best, even if all the odds were against a Jaeger as himself. Nevertheless, he did what he could…and this is where his family’s history began to repeat itself through him…

Abel began to fall for a beautiful human woman, Isabella Candace, and in a strange twist of fate…she fell in love with Abel almost instantly. However, this caused a talk within the region and the heir of the Gaston’s, Richard, began to enter the picture and did what he could to hinder this bond. Sadly, it was to no avail…until he went the extra mile. One night, he proposed to kill this beast that had plagued their land…to kill Abel. Isabella heard about this evil deed and went to warn Abel, telling him to leave Farway immediately. A bit distraught by this thought, Abel agreed to this, only parting ways with Isabella as he left with her a lone red rose which beamed with life and a family heirloom: an enchanted mirror. And with that…the Beast rushed off into the night…

Abel travelled Grimm to do his best to hide from Richard’s bloodlust hunt…however…within the following weeks and months, with the Lobos returning…he may just have to return to protect the one he loves.

Combat Information

Epithet: The Beast

[spoiler=Fighting Style:]

Abel tends to fight hand to hand, trying to use his opponent's strength and momentum against them. He also utilizes his claws in battle, but usually as a scare tactic, same with his fangs, only because he believes that he shouldn't harm anyone in this way.

However, there are moments where his anger gets the better of him and his beastial form appears, in which he fights with brute strength and not much thought. Like this, he fights as a feral creature that has been locked in a cage.

Weapons: N/A

[spoiler=Abilities:]

Heightened Senses

Because Abel is a Jaeger, his five senses have become a bit more sharper than most humans have. However, his enhanced senses are usually dulled in the case of rain or even blizzards (particularly smell, sight, and hearing in these situations).

Razor-Sharp Claws and Fangs

Another feature from his Jaeger ancestry, as Abel is in possession of razor sharp claws and fangs. His fangs are usually appear as just regular teeth, until further inspection is made. His claws actually he keeps them shrunk down to resemble normal nails, until he needs them and they grow sharper and ready to be used by him.

Beastial Form

This has been given to him due to his Jaeger blood which flowed through Adam Taurus' veins. This blood has given Abel the ability, to transform himself into his lineage's appearance...to transform into the beast. The form is brought upon his anger literally being unchained to the point of no return. In this form, he gains the following:

  • Enhanced Strength
  • Enhanced Speed and Agility
  • Enhanced Durability

Character’s Trivia

  • Abel’s name is derived from the following: Abel – In the Bible, this is was one of the two sons that Adam had. In this sense, the Beast’s name was actually Adam and therefore, this connection was able to be made. Taurus - A sign of the Zodiac, but in Latin it means "Bull".
  • He has an odd habit of talking to inanimate objects (i.e.: candelabras, tea-pots, clocks, etc.).

Other Trivia

  • The name of his ancestor: Adam Taurus, actually, is also the name of the character of the same name from the series “RWBY”, who is also based upon the Beast.
  • There are actually two characters that portray the Belle character from the fairy tale: Belle Taurus and Isabella Candace.
  • The Gaston’s inspiration came from the following: Avenant – This was the original suitor for Belle in the one carnation of the “Beauty and the Beast” story. Gaston – Speaking of suitor for Belle, Gaston was actually the name of the guy that fell head over heels for Belle in the Disney adaptation of the story.
  • The family heirloom left to Isabella by Abel is actually the same enchanted mirror as in the story, though it has apparently only one focus: a way to look back. In this case with Isabella, she now uses it to make sure Abel is safe.

Interested, but I would like more info on Jaegers. What do they look like for example?

In short, similar to humans. However, since they are derived from "monsters", they would have similar attributes of that as well as abilities.

For example, my character is basically The Beast, because of this, he won't have a beastial form at all times, rather, with his hair one could see the horns that he has (similar to Adam from RWBY).

How you want to make them and have them look like, ultimately is up to you.

I don't mind the wait.

Jack will be descended from a family long-since destroyed by humans in Farway.

His power will be related to a Skeleton or undead-Gothic esq theme.

Sound good?

Ooohhhh, that sounds awesome!

So I take it, he'll be half Jaeger then? Or full human?

@Cosmo: Whichever would be good for you, use it. And an interesting concept ^^

Wait, why would he be human? (Half Jaeger is sort of interesting)

The description of Farway was that it was big on Jaegers for a while and Humans are making a rise there. Right? Stowaway Jack the downtrodden Jaeger of a long-dead family was to reflect that conflict elsewhere =P

[spoiler=Naia - Ranshao Shujingdeng]

天拎千夜

"Trick or treat, it's time to kick some demon ass!"

Personal Information

Name: Ránshāo Shuǐjīngdēng (水晶燈 燃烧 lit. Shuǐjīngdēng Ránshāo)

Nickname: Naia

Age of Appearance: 16

Gender: Female

Race: Jaeger

Based On: Will-o'-the-wisp

[spoiler=Appearance]Naia is a youthful girl with a slim body frame. Standing at about 5'4" (~163cm), she's not tall, but she's not quite short either. Her hair is a vibrant black that leads into a quite striking feature, in the fact what seems to be her hair extends into bright crimson fire-like floating extensions that seem somewhat like rose petals or burning flames.

Her eyes are of a deep blue, making for a sharp contrast with the glowing red 'flames' that float behind her at all times, highlighted further by the fact that she has crucifix earrings made of gold alloy, which reflect the flare. She also has a distinctive birthmark in a heart shape under her left eye, of the same color as her 'fire hair'.

She is almost always in a single outfit that consists of a strapless shirt fastened together by clasps and a coat with cross designs on it in combination with short pants tied with a belt, all of which are an ink-black with red highlights. Around her left thigh, there's an additional band of red fabric that encircles her leg. To finish off the outfit, she wears gauntlets of the same color palette as the rest of her clothes, and tall, leather boots, and a necklace that holds a glowing purple gem inside.

[spoiler=Personality]Brazen, brash, and bursting with energy, this girl is the kind of person to take life by the horns and give it a good ass-kicking to get things moving. She was never one to live life like all the supposed little prim princesses of society either, and her tomboyish attitude and less-than-feminine interests - to put it lightly - have been both a source of friends and enemies. While she can be blunt, she usually never means any serious harm, and cracks her wit for the humor of others. However, this can sometimes offend people, and in combination with what seems to be an endlessly overflowing source of hyperactivity, she can tire and frustrate people by leaving them behind in the metaphorical dust before she can notice.

She's also an inherently honest person, and doesn't consider the fact or possibility that she could lie to benefit herself or others as an actual option. However, this is less out of morality-based conflicts and more of the fact she never found need to lie, because she has the attitude of being able to take whatever people and life can throw at her straight-on. She does, however, fully understand other people can lie, and Naia is by no means gullible when it comes to actually important things. However, she can sometimes act slightly naive when it comes to people she trusts, which often results in her friends taking a chance to snap back with their own wit for all the jokes she had shot off. In addition, the chance you'd manage to fool her in battle is something so unlikely you might as well try to preserve a snowball within the supernatural flames that she can produce, capable of melting through near any mortal creation.

As mentioned before, with her brazen personality, she can sometimes get into arguments with people, but it is far from being the type of behavior where she would be openly defiant towards authority, or people in general, for that matter. Naia acts quite simply, according to her own words. If something should happen and she should act to do it, she will. If not, she won't. Thinking too hard about it would only cloud up her judgment, and so she usually refrains from overanalyzing things, and goes with a charge-in attitude. Obviously, this can lead to issues in the instance she bites off more than she can chew, but with her indomitable competitive spirit, she's not going to give even a single inch until she can take back a whole mile. Even with the knowledge of the extents of her own prowess and abilities, she can sometimes abandon those good warnings to opt for going all-out to try to accomplish something that would otherwise seem practically impossible.

And while that may not always work, she never lets it kick her down and keep her there, because she'll kick herself back up, and charge in for a second time. And with enough tries, she'll fight to get it until she can, at which point the pure elation that she feels is more than enough to pay everything else up to that point off.

[spoiler=Backstory]Naia appears to be human, but that's not quite true. While she may appear to be nothing more than perhaps a teen with special powers that might age around at, 16 or so, her actual "age" is far older, ranging into the hundreds of years. However, only the past 10-20 years are actually what makes up the girl you'd see today.

In truth, she was a Will-o'-the-Wisp, one of the true beings of its kind, wandering around places of death and silence, leading poor haps astray and into the darkness of night and death. It is unknown how 'she' came to be, whether it be from the deceased soul of another, or through some other strange and unexplainable cause. However, during this period of her 'life', she had nothing resembling the consciousness of what would be considered 'human-like'. Only feeling the barest of instincts to feed and to 'function', she drifted around throughout the centuries, sometimes even being the one to spawn great myths about what the eerie orbs of light were.

She led people to glory, and others to devastation, but she knew naught of what she had done, nor did she intend any of it. For she simply floated through the midnight skies as she had done for so long, but when luck rolled its die in the oddest of ways, by coincidence, she sometimes had been around. As a result, she became known as bringer of luck and prosperity, as well as bringer of ruin and death. But she knew naught of it.

As the years passed into decades, which slowly turned to centuries, something began to awaken inside of her. A sort of... awareness. A light of thought, the breath of life.

"She" knew naught of what this meant, nor could the fledgling born mind understand. In actuality, this was nothing more than a result of involuntary feeding and absorption of the souls of the people and beings that passed by her, which were inevitably drained by her presence - hence the name, 'bringer of death'. Those who remained in her vicinity grew strangely weary, as if the weight of the entire world pressed on their shoulders. But she knew naught of it.

On one cold moon, many many nights and years ago, she could feel something. "She" could feel something. Yet, it was confusion and darkness. For what formed as an accidental byproduct of the collection of thousands of fragments of souls that blended and dissolved together was now beginning to learn. The air was a harsh cold, snow falling around everywhere. And from somewhere within the fog of its existence, it remembered the shape of humans. Taking shape and expanding her form, a girl was born, from death itself.

And as it began to learn about the world and those around it, it grew aware, it felt sensations, it had a consciousness. The world of mortals was a far throw from what the realm of the below and limbo were like. Even so, despite how alien the new world that surrounded this new being was, it struggled with a fierce and unbreakable strength. It would not bend to the rules of this new world either, and it would understand.

So as it matured and grew form, it absorbed information about the world and its inhabitants, learning to produce the sounds of the people and comprehend the scriptures and pictures of the world. As the richness of her past melded with the new and striking energies of this world's experiences, it nurtured and set her consciousness on an explosive path towards becoming evermore aware. It would learn, so that it could reach out and see. And perhaps then, it may find a place for itself and its existence and its role in the world coming to be, in the not-so-faraway future.

Combat Information

Epithet: Caretaker of the Mausoleum, Lady of the Netherworld Flames, The Day that Carries a Thousand Nights

[spoiler=Fighting Style]Naia uses a bombardment-style rapidfire aggro attack fighting style meant to completely overwhelm the opponent with the incredible burning properties of her flames. There are several good and bad sides to this. The benefits are that almost no non-supernatural being can withstand even a single direct full-power hit from the flames, as well as the fact that even a slash can cause extremely painful and severe cauterization-style burns. She is willing to go all-out when she gets hyped up, and can unleash massive, bomb-like attacks and swarm her enemies with the various combinations that she can create with her flames.

However, because of how aggressive this fighting style is, it can also lead her to tire out quickly. Even at full stamina, she cannot just flood flames out continuously, and it takes time to generate more and more, which continually become longer as the flames are quite literally from her own "life" or "self", as she is a Will-o'-the-wisp. Leading her around and baiting her to make her use up her own energy is one of the quickest ways to cause her attacks and speed to start dropping in large chunks. Also, the short range of her active flames means that if she wants to attack, she must get up close. Even with her speed, long-range attackers can be a large problem, as she cannot generate her own long-range attack tools (usually a rifle or a bow & arrow) and aim to shoot fast enough before she would have to respond to her enemy's attack. Continually wearing her down by making her take small hits that add up, and striking at her from afar, are ways to circumvent her monstrous close-range strength.

Also, due to how hyperactive and battle-hazed she can get easily, she can also make quite reckless decisions in the heat of battle, which can potentially lead to very dangerous situations. In addition, while water or something of the sort cannot affect her flames directly, she has a near unnatural fear and distaste of it (besides simply drinking it as necessary in small amounts, obviously). This can lead her to focus on keeping away from water striking her by incinerating it with her flames, which causes an additional burden in battle when she must focus on multiple other aspects as well. It is theorized that direct contact with water on her skin can be potentially extremely painful, as it would possibly cause a near incineration reaction. Naia being quite literally the humanized form of a Will-o'-the-wisp can cause lots of issues for both her and others. As such, water may potentially cause her severe burns and potentially lead to debilitating effects in large amounts.

[spoiler=Weapons]Naia has no "weapons" that she keeps on herself, because of the fact that she can create the deadly flames that can act as the weapon themselves, or align themselves into tools to wreak further havoc. However, she does wear a necklace on her at all times that contain a glowing purple gem, the powers of which are yet uncertain and unobserved.

[spoiler=Abilities]She calls the ability that lets her produce and manipulate the smolderingly hot infernos that she can produce Scorching Purgatory. Hotter than any possible natural flame, no normal ends can extinguish these fires until they erase both themselves and whatever is caught in these deadly conflagrations. However, free-form control of the flames, such as simply blasting balls themselves are limited to quite a short range, perhaps to a globe of around 20 feet in diameter (with her at its epicenter). In addition, the further one goes from the 'core', the weaker the flames become, and past around 25 feet, it smolders and burns, but can produce nothing more than the smoky "will-o'-the-wisps" that give the namesake.

However, the strongest fact about this ability, is its incredible versatility. From the flames, she can produce near any kind of weapon. Shaping them into swords, maces, whips, hammers, axes, gauntlets, spears, throwing knives, bow and arrows, staffs, chakrams, rifles, and the like are second nature to Naia. Being the one from which the fires stem in the first place, she herself is immune to them, allowing to grasp the tools that she creates, wielding them freely. In addition, given how they have no actual solid material, this allows for weapons that would otherwise be incredibly heavy to be wielded easily, since they quite literally have near no weight. Essentially, if she sees the basic concept behind a weapon and understands the way it is meant to function, she can replicate it with her flames. Also, her ability is not limited to merely weapons. For instance, if she wanted to break through a door, she could melt it down by simply creating gauntlets. If she wanted to fly, she could create wings. And to block an attack, she could summon a wall of flames or a shield, burning away at the projectiles or weapons. However, nothing highly complicated can be created, and even in the instance of the "rifle", it is less of any actual mechanics and merely the shape/projectile blaster form of an attack that she manifests. Thus, in a way, she is nothing more than a mimic when it comes to this kind of thing. In addition, what seems to be floating red wings is actually an extension of her hair, which may be surprising, until one considers that Naia isn't actually a human. As such, it can also take on fire-like qualities. Grabbing her hair wouldn't be a good plan.

The downside of this however, is that they literally have near no substance, besides the burning power. Almost all of the weapons that she produces are limited to a few uses before they start to break apart and get re-absorbed inside of Naia. Therefore, if someone somehow created a weapon that could brave the flames, it would be an issue, as Naia would not be able to simply block the attack with a strike. On the good side, the flames can melt through most mortal creations (even if some would take her an obscenely long time), as well as have pseudo-explosive properties if slammed into surfaces, which would cause the flames to 'splatter' out.

Lastly, when she goes into a state of extreme concentration, it can be noted that her eyes can turn a golden yellow as a side effect from using her powers, but it has not been observed to give any benefits except perhaps only a very slight increase in visual acuity. This has been theorized after instances of her eyes turning that gold coloration has been seen almost exclusively when using long range weapons such as rifles or a bow and an arrow.

Possible ideas atm:
Will-o'-the-wisp (I'd do it probably in a younger kind of body, sort of like the Halloween 'trick or treat' feeling maybe idk)

Hydra (some draconic/snake-based creature/deity, maybe like Tiamat/Typhon)

Doppelganger

(will edit stuff in as I'm brainstorming)

EDIT: Will most likely pick Will-o'-the-wisp

And the wolf from Red ridding hood.

Wow...so many replies! xD I'll answer them the best I can!

I asked that, mainly cause I wasn't sure what you were going with it. A misunderstanding on my part.

Although, for my concept to entirely work, i'll need to give my character an extra power the Leanan Sidhe doesn't have, is it ok?

I believe they are allowed to have multiple abilities.

I'll allow it.

So, Jaegers don't have to be humanoid, right? Or do they have to look kinda human? Or at least have a human form?

Well, I would say that they can have a separate form when they get into battle (like my character turning into a Beast), but again it is up to the player. I I would hope that they would retain some humanoid distinguishable features but share some Jaeger features as well (i.e. my character will have small horns that are amidst in his hair.

Noting slight interest and may possibly join.

Glad to hear it!
