Ring of Destruction

During your opponent's turn: Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls whose ATK is less than or equal to their LP; destroy that face-up monster, and if you do, take damage equal to its original ATK, then inflict damage to your opponent, equal to the damage you took. You can only activate 1 "Ring of Destruction" per turn.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong places, but I have not seen this card being played too often and I'm wondering why. While it's no BTH or Warning, some of the currently Limited Traps, this has its perks: unlike Warning it can deal monsters that are already on the field, although you have to wait 1 turn to do so of course, even the burn can contribute to finishing the opponent faster, etc.

So... the card doesn't see play because it is simply not good enough? or perhaps because Damage Juggler is a thing now?

Discuss.

The LP side is too real for you/being a dead draw.

The fact that there are multiple realistically summoned monsters that can't be targeted hurts it. Not to mention Majespecters.

The fact that it's a slap on the wrist to most decks, as opposed to a true playstopper, ruins it.

Yeah, they did a VERY good job with the errata nerf.

It only works on your opponent's turn, so it lacks the flexibility of the original, and doesn't let you push for game as easily. You have to use it on your opponent's monster, again making it more inflexible. The ATK of that monster needs to be equal to or lower than their LP, so late game it's nearly useless.

It burns you first, so you can end up losing rather than causing a draw. And your opponent gets burned based on the damage you took, so it doesn't combo with damage reflecting effects to deal double damage. But reflecting the burn is still an acceptable strategy, but with all of the conditions on Ring's target, you're just sort of wasting your effort unless reflecting burn damage is a big part of your strategy.

Honestly, I still like the card, but the changes to it make it inconsistent as a removal card, and I tend to be harsh on cards I find inconsistent or carry too many downsides. This is a card that is inconsistent, but has incredible payoff when you get it to work the way you want it to. But I feel there are probably much better removal options that don't carry inherent risks and inconsistency.
