Heroes

There are no heroes, we are all insignificant cogs in a greater machine, the only "hero" would be the beauty of the mechanism working in cohesion. There are simply those endowed with attractive attributes who in their self-absorbed macroscopic world feel superior to their fellow insignificance. But this too is an illusion. You are born from the earth, in due time after you've played your role, you will return there.

Placing labels like "heroes" gives people an artificial sense of importance that is both cruel and unneeded

Great. Now there are 3 of them.

Anyway. Heroes, may they be fictional or real, are an important to society, as they give people something to strive for, a paragon of sorts.

In my eyes a hero is someone who shares my ideals and foals and has successfully implemented them like I would have. There have been none that managed to accomplish this and thus that came close to doing so did something that is against what I believe in. This can be either real or fictional for me. I wouldn't say Deadpool because although I am fond of him, he lacks the ideals I would see in a hero, that is why he is an anti hero in my eyes. Although what I deem a hero others may deem and anti hero. Someone who sees an injustice and with the help of others manages to rectify is one action I see as heroic. Ambition is nice but too much of it I don't see as favorable. One who is or was capable of obtain power by starting from nothing is another plus. I guess Lenin and Captain america sort of have those qualities (ironically).

What do you believe is a "hero"? What characteristics, or actions, qualify someone, in your eyes, to be a hero?

Additionally do you have any personal heroes?

The best part for me about heroes is that there's a nearly unlimited amount of different responses you can get on how you would define them.

You can say Spider-Man and Batman are both heroes because they fight for the greater good and they don't kill. But they have very different motivations and are completely different people when you dig into their characters. In other words, they have different defining characteristics that people would use in classifying them as heroes.

Some people might think heroes are people with larger than life personalities that inspire others to follow them like Goku or Naruto. Others might more heavily respect people who don't fight for glory, but rather their friends and because it's right. Characters like Okabe from Steins;Gate come to mind here.

And the best part is that heroes exist in real life too. Whether it's Barack Obama or your dad or whoever else, people on earth can be amazing creatures and do incredible things for one another. I respect the hell out of humanitarians who try and make the world a better place, and even people doing small things for one another because it's kind or because they're in need of help. I think the guy behind Humans of New York is a hero for sharing refugee stories and helping raise awareness of issues happening around the world.

But the cool part? Being a hero doesn't necessarily mean doing great and kind things for people. You can be a hero for simply being who you are, someone with a personality and gait that appeals to others and inspires admiration. Or someone making the best of a terrible situation. Whenever I see a sick cancer patient dealing with chemotherapy, I see a hero facing overwhelming adversity and living their life regardless of this incredible burden. And there are thousands if not millions of people who are able to live their lives through adversity we could never truly understand.

To quote Aunt May here, "I believe there's a hero in all of us. Gives us strength, keeps us noble."
