Ask phil anything

Do you think AMAs are repetitive? Or are trending ideas just prone to being that way?

It's actually impressive how fresh they continue to be even though they're so common. There are a lot of questions to ask, and also a lot of questions have answers that change even within the space of a few weeks.

Brexit?

To be honest I don't know a whole load about the whole matter and would vote remain no matter what because it makes travelling with a German passport much easier. What I do think, though is that a lot of the arguments for remain are based on the nostalgic idea of Britain being a more powerful and more useful country than it actually is, and I think the EU and the collective bargaining power it gives are necessary in this day and age where to be honest Britain is blown out of the water by other countries in several aspects of the economy. Pro-Brexiters are arguing that Britain will have no problem negotiating favourable deals with the EU and the US which mean that not much will be lost by leaving, but the US won't have any reason to trade with Britain over the rest of the EU containing powerful countries like Germany and the Netherlands and France and that lot, and the EU will be very unwilling to give a favourable deal to the UK lest other EU countries get the same idea and the EU falls apart. I haven't really looked up many of the pro-leave arguments but from what it looks like it seems the benefits are negligible compared to the risks.

Iirc it was this season your got your yugi invite, are you gonna go to nats?

Euros*, nats in European countries are open and Euros is basically equivalent to US nats. But yeah, unless it's in the UK it's unlikely that I'll go since I more or less don't play anymore and would have to get a deck and stuff. If it's close by I'll probably go for the sake of going but I don't really want to book flights and a hotel to go. If I really wanted to get back into the game I'm pretty confident in my ability to get an invite for any given year, anyway. I got an invite last year but my prom was on the same weekend so I didn't go.

What's actually going on in the gif in your sig? Is it any more than just a guy scoring a goal or whatever they call it in rounders?

a) it's a home run, b) it's baseball. It's not really more than a home run, but the significance is that it's an incredibly long one. The player who hit it, Giancarlo Stanton is basically a walking highlight reel of long home runs, he's unbelievably powerful and more or less every home run he hits (and he hits a lot) is a no-doubter which ends up way further than it actually had to. The one in my sig went so far that it knocked a few panels out of the screen, which people assumed was so far away that it wouldn't be in danged of batted balls.

Does anyone call you Uncle Phil?

A few times. Dr Phil is more common.

U still rocking out to elastic heart? Sia <3

Absolute tune. Sia is generally excellent, Cheap Thrills is also a wonderful song although her role in that is relatively minor.

Opinion on me?

You seem a decent sort.

Nah, I'm actually a Mariners fan since my family is from the Seattle area and the ones who are into baseball are all Mariners fans. I just really like Giancarlo Stanton.

Do you think that, the more obscure and/or uncommon the member, the more likely his/her topic is to getting replies/etc?

No offense to you, of course.

What kinds of shows do you watch?

Not very many, but comedy when I do. We always put Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother on the TV in our flat, so I watch a lot of that, as well as various British comedy panel shows like Mock the Week and Have I got News for You. To be honest though, most of my time spent watching stuff is watching Hearthstone streams.

The opposite, I would say. There's generally a lot more to ask interesting and popular people, even if the question quality might be lower.
