The Nyx Avatar
LORE:Cannot be Special Summoned. Neither player can Special Summon 2 or more monsters at the same time. Once per turn: You can pay 1000 LP, then target 1 card on the field; banish it, and if you do, this card gains 800 ATK until your opponent's End Phase if it is a monster. Darj
Now this looks like it could get scary: a Michael-ish Monarch armed with Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon's summoning lock AND can turn into a 3200-ATK beater if it banishes a monster. Oh, just noticed it's Level5 instead of Level6 as Monarchs and the lock Fiends do, but this is barely a hindrance. Actually... its Level5 allows Rank5 plays along the Prime Monarch, but I'm not sure how problematic that could be.If anything I feel the ATK boost is an overkill and you could at least reduce it to +400 ATK, if not less; but other than that, it should be fine I guess, even if it's basically a Vanity's Fiend who trades a weaker Special Summon lock for a Michael effect. At first I thought it could become a problem in Monarch decks, but then I realized it cannot be Summoned by Ehther, and even if you Tribute Summon it during your opponent's turn, unlike regular Monarchs its banishing effect won't activate since it is an Ignition effect, so overall the card should be safe. I don't know how much you care about text fixes, but I will drop my suggestions anyway:Cannot be Special Summoned. Neither player can Special Summon 2 or more monsters at the same time. The ATK increase is there so it can still banish while targeting, but not be pitifully vulnerable to high ATK bodies. Text fixes? Sure; whatever helps to better clarify what I'm intending the card to do.
Darj
I want to take this chance to clear something up:Targeting and banishing is still strong, you know?I say this because you seem to be under the impression that the targeting condition is a big drawback, when it actually isn't. Yes, un-targetable accessible bosses do exist in the game, but AFAIK from a design standpoint those bosses are the problem (for the record: un-targetable bosses that are not as accessible and require effort to Summon should be fine), rather than targeting becoming weak. In other words, targeting is still fair, what is unfair are those un-targetable bosses (looking at you, Dark Destroyer), but that's YGO powercreep for us, and, again AFAIK, it's not good design to step up with their game. "Oh, un-targetable bosses exist so I will make this removal effect not target", hmm...correct me if I'm wrong but nope, that's just spiraling into the powercreep mess. Sleepy
The card looks fine to me. It is comparable to Caius/Mega-Caius, and it is great that it can repeat every turn that effect, but duels with Monarchs don't usually last super long so don't think that'd make it a deal breaker. If anything, the Monarchs still have the plus that they activate on Summon so unless you outright negate them, they'll trigger, while this can be stopped on Summon with no repercussions. It sounds like a good side deck against Pendulums for when they recover their power in the meta. The ATK boost is fine to me. Any ATK-sized monster can be taken down a million ways nowadays, so might as well protect it from happening by mere battle very easily.
