Preparation on Leaving This Site

Recommended Posts

tl;dr - I quit site for reasons, I will contribute to site one last time before asking for permanent ban.

[spoiler=will read]
I'm actually quite serious about this now, and I would love for a moderator to ban this account completely. Essentially, I have no reason to be on this website anymore, and leaving an account open is just going to draw me back here.

Personally, I feel like these forums have been on a downward slope ever since I joined; a lot of people have left, no one took over for them, and the forums just look so much less friendly and active nowadays. Winter has become unchecked with his status posts reeking of politics, TCG/OCG discussion has become a laughing stock, Custom Cards has severely gone down in quality, etc.

Even more so, I feel like these forums has done little to improve itself. The forums look literally the same as the day as I entered it; elitism is still a big issue in the community, what with 80% of members having been here almost their entire lives. It really does look like a dying MMORPG that has the potential to fix itself but won't because of rampant elitism. The lack of YCMaker to maintain the site also contributes quite a lot to this.

Another big reason that I am leaving this site is my disinterest in YGO in general. I quit sometime around before ABCs were released, and I tried getting back into the game during Zoodiac format, but it just wouldn't reignite my interest. YGO as a game has become dull, a game where you already know how to play the game and understand all its inherent flaws, I'm basically burned out. The only thing I can do is consume content, the onslaught of new cards that Konami releases every few sets just for the sake of new cards. It just got tiring for me, repeating an endless cycle of looking at new cards, learning which cards were meta, rinsing and repeat. Even the new link mechanics won't change my interest in YGO; it feels clunky and it'll become subject to the same balance issues that plagued Pendulum.

As a result, I've made barely any posts over the last few weeks, and I will most likely ditch this website completely sometime in early March. I do feel somewhat shitty just leaving the site without saying a word, so I feel like doing something to contribute before leaving completely. I'll most likely release an article in the TCG/OCG section, then ask for a mod to ban me.

>Place Sucks, all the veterans left, nobody replaced them

Logical Move

> I'll leave too!

If it's on a downward spiral, do something to fix it. There's more to YCM than just YGO and Politics. If you can't find a new niche, you're not looking hard enough.

As for me, I've been less active recently. But I'll request a status lock if that's what you really think is wrong with the place. People like you quitting is what's killing YCM, not "elites"

You not even giving links a chance is kinda pathetic. If you wanna leave, leave. The banning of your acct suggests you're afraid you might come back. Which just shows the pathetic nature of this all. Either help fix the place or leave quietly

Granted, I'm not leaving immediately, I'll be doing a slow decline into oblivion then delete myself. It's what I've been doing these past few months anyways.

smh why can't people just funk off for a while without feeling the need to pour their heart out in a thread and then returning 2 weeks later

I'm not going to be one of those bastards that complains about the site and then just quits, but at the end of the day I want to leave this site behind. This site has a great community and I want to stay, but I'm burned out. I will do what I can to improve the site, and then just "retire", so to say. It's been a fun ride.

Let's be honest here, if I disappear it's not the end of the world.

One more /formerly/ good TCG poster gone. I'm sure that will help make the section better!

It's not the end of the world if YCM itself vanishes, but you leaving isn't gonna do a god damn thing to fix this shithole. It's selfish. That's it.

If you're gonna be selfish, atleast have the dignity to do it privately

Okay I clicked on this cause I wanted to at least wish him well and saw that

Why does he have to be obligated to fix it? If he doesn't want to be here then he should be allowed to go. Like sheet what kind of message is it that "I don't really want to be here but I feel drawn to come back (basically due to habit from what I can see) so here's why I'm leaving." gets a response of "Fix it yourself"

You're literally blaming it being bad on good people like him leaving while insulting him.

If you want people to stick around this is a very bad way to go about it.

He cares enough to explain it but doesn't care enough to stick around through the negatives. Simple as that.

Good luck Mr Dolphin, didn't know you well, but I hope this helps improve your life.

If you are gonna leave, then leave. I never understood the whole "permaban me to remove the temptation" this site isn't heroine, dude. If you get bored and check the site some afternoon, who cares? Not like it hurts you.

You can literally just stop posting. No need for a lengthy goodbye. Like, among goodbyes, this is definitely one of the better ones (tbh some of the goodbyes have been so over the top it is basically impossible to outdo them) but literally why? So that the forum will learn from the loss of you and get better? That's not how it works.

And to be honest, winter isn't really right either. It isn't the responsibility of anyone to fix the forum. Especially considering that, presently, tcg is disgustingly active. Maybe not 2012 active, but to be perfectly honest the member base was pretty funking awful at the game then, at least compared to now.

YCM is what you make of it. If you want to go, go. If you want to stay, stay. No need for fanfare, really.
