Encore Boost

[Quick-play Spell]

Target 1 monster with any kind of counters on it; Add 1 monster from your Deck to your hand with the same Type, which can be Normal Summoned, and if you do, remove all counters from it and it gains 200 ATK and DEF for each counter removed this way. You can only activate 1 "Encore Boost" per turn.

I've been looking up ways to make my own generic-ish RotAs without making them boring "search and that's all" consistency boosts, and hopefully this requires enough dedication and can't go for just any type without jumping through hoops because that's another thing..... To be honest, I am a little bit worried the condition might be a little bit too easy to fulfill for too many targets. I was thinking on giving the search a Level cap based on the counters removed, but what do you guys think?

Flavor wise: The search + boost is meant to symbolize that a friend came over near the monster and that gave said monster support, boosting its stats as a result.

IMO the card is just fine with no level cap. What you can do instead is limit it to searching monsters that can be Normal Summoned/Set so it can't pick BLS and other nomi or semi nomi "bosses"; like Zoodiac Broadbull who has yet to cause major trouble despite its ability of picking high-Level monsters.

On the other hand, I don't support making it search for a level equal or lower to the Counters removed; that would pretty much limit it to searching Level 1~3 monsters because a card reaching 4+ counters is rare nowadays.

I very much like that as a Quick-Play it can be dropped during damage calculation for the surprise boost that is harder to respond to.

I like it. It's a generically helpful searcher, but requires a fairly underutilized mechanic to work.

B.E.S. decks could use this pretty effectively alongside their recent support. If used during the Battle Phase, they might be able to run over an opponent's monster + they will be destroyed so Boss Rush will come into play.

In any case, I'd put a hard OPT on the activation of this because it is essentially 3 free copies of Exodia in Library Exodia turbo.

I do also like Darj's suggestions on grabbing a Normal Summonable monster. It's a light clause, but keeps this from doing certain crazy things.

Thank you guys. Edited~
Now it has a hard OPT clause and can only search Normal Summonable monsters with it.

Somehow I forgot about Exodia, and that'd be pretty bad if I made an FTK more consistent like that. It kind of still does but at least now this will be not be as turbo now.

In terms of the most abundant counter sources: We're looking at BES (as one mentioned above), Cloudians, Aliens, and Spell Counter Spellcasters (No, I am not going to count Venom cause they are so bad, and their Field Spell doesn't even give members of their own archetype the counters for obvious reasons).

  • Cloudians can easily get their Fog Counters considering most just need to Normal Summon to obtain them. It isn't horrible loss to lose a single Fog counter early game.
  • Aliens.... Are awfully slow at producing their A Counters, and they tend to put their counters on your opponent's stuff... So it is not really advisable to run this with them. Especially considering they already have their own search card now.
  • Spell Counter Spellcasters: While a lot of their stuff are difficult to use and sadly outdated... I think this could help them out a little bit considering a lot of them gain Spell Counters prior to Spell Cards resolving so it could be a nice +1 battle Spell for them every now and then.

There is one other example of this having some potential, but it is another I wouldn't bother with... Ice Counter monsters. Seriously those suck, and their typing is all over the place to get a reasonable search.

There are a few splashable/techable Counter-generator monsters too, like Card Guard for grabbing Fiends, Breaker the Magical Warrior and Arcanite Magician for Spellcasters; could be useful in Predaplant mirrors too, since it can target opponent's monsters.
