If you really don't care for Link Format, what about a card to ignore it?

Spell - Normal

Banish 1 monster in your Extra Monster Zone until your next Standby Phase: All Main Monster Zones become Extra Monster Zones until the end of your opponent’s next turn. If your opponent Special Summons a monster from their Extra Deck, you can banish this card from your GY: Negate the effects of all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls until the end of your next turn.

A bit deceptive, but this is taking a note from Interdimensional Matter Transporter and PSY-Framelord Omega. While it isn't a Quick Effect, it can give you the board for a turn. However, it also gives your opponent the option to exploit the card and Special Summon, but if they do they might get screwed over if they aren't thinking straight.

I think this an interesting card, but not perfect (since 2 AM me made this card.) I would like to spark some conversation on an effective and creative way of giving Decks a chance in this unforgiving format, since I'd rather not wait several years before every Deck gets a Link monster, but it's too late since they introduced a new mechanic that brings everything back to square 1.

You know there's a Legacy format for all of Custom Cards, right? (As in, design stuff like we're still in ARC-V without monsters being split and other stuff; a lot of you are not taking advantage of this opportunity because it was clear not everyone liked Links + that was made to accommodate everyone without having to throw everything in Casual because they aren't working as well now.)

But enough about that.

At the very least, you can at least banish something like Proxy Dragon or whatever has side markers for a while; open up monster zones to play ARC-V style Extra spamming and then have said Proxy Dragon open up areas later. Though then again, since the Gofu engine for Token spamming has become somewhat common in a few Decks, all you really have to do is make Spider at minimum; banish it and yeah, you can figure out what happens. Konami's been pretty bad at not making generic Links lately (well, at least ones that don't require a ton of investment just to get bottom markers [Link 2] and/or aren't restricted to Yusaku.dek).

But yeah, while it does offer the opponent the chance to do so if they want, the banish effect is of some concern (I'll assume that it only affects stuff that is on the field by the time you resolve this card's effect, in which case, you should be fine). Either way though, it is just a free negate for punishing the opponent from ED summoning (which will happen often unless you're a Draco player or something).

Forget everything else, this is just a decent negation card for any decks that run self-mill or discard effects. Get it in the grave somehow, and you have a free negation on whatever ED monster your opponent chooses to summon.

The main effect is the kind of thing that isn't in itself powerful, but the only real applications for it are broken, so I'm not fond of it at all.

Seems like fair criticism, but the card wasn't really the point. What kind of card could be made to allow for Extra Deck Summoning for players with Decks that were made without Link Summoning in mind? Some ideas:

  • Negate 1 of your Monster Zones to make a Main Monster Zone you control into an Extra Monster Zone.
  • Buffed Interdimensional Matter Transporter (Probably a Quick-Play Spell)
  • Banish all "Archetype" Extra Deck face-down (Field Spell), but the archetype can Synchro/Xyz Summon from the banished face-down.
  • Extra Deck milling with archetype an archetype that has Contact Fusion Summon that can Special Summon themselves either from the Extra Deck or GY.
