Battlin' Boxing Ring
[Field Spell]


"Battlin' Boxer" monsters gain 500 ATK. "Battlin' Boxer" monsters you control are unaffected by your opponent's card effect, except during the Battle Phase. Once per turn, when a monster destroys a monster by battle: Place 1 KO Counter on that monster. When 3 KO Counters are on a monster on the field: The controller of that monster wins the Duel.

Well, while the last Field Spell was underwhelming, this one's pretty overwhelming. The ATK increase is cute, but the second effect is basically a blanket of protection. Though it's kind of ridiculous with the last effect. Sure, you could argue card removal to get rid of the blanket and Counters, but it's still pretty excessive for a Field Spell. I do like it nonetheless. But it is quite potent.

Let's see how to describe this, considering I actually play Boxers:

  • Attack bonus is fine, but it's higher than normal from recent Field Spells.
  • Blanket protection is helpful, but yeah, combo this with Jolt Counter and they're essentially invincible. Even giving them a 'specter clause except during the BP would give them a lot. 
  • IDK about the alternate win thing though. Yeah, it can backfire if the opponent kills your stuff first, but then it's promoting an easy alt-win condition. (I mean, Vennominaga and Number 88 can have this type of effect due to their summon conditions and stuff). Flavor-wise, it works, but...yeah.

The first two effects alone would be sufficient enough to support them.

That...thats a win condition alright.

  • The ATK stat increase is typical but could probably be done in a way that fits the archetype's strategy more, which is more of a Warrior Toolbox than anything. Possibly something along the lines of The A. Forces but maybe the GY instead, or even a Foolish Burial that increases the ATK of the Battlin Boxers.
  • Wow...wait except during the Battle Phase? I think for a Battle Phase oriented archetype Battle Phase protection would make more sense just from a thematic standpoint, but even then being unaffected by card effects could be a bit too good and may even ruin the archetypes theme of toolboxiness, since most of their Xyz and possibly Links now will not be Battlin Boxers.
  • So this is actually Boxing now. It's once per turn and requires destroying monsters. 3 turns of consistently winning with monsters usually means you beat your opponent anyway though, which makes the effect surprisingly balanced (although a bit redundant). However, it's generic. The win condition itself can be used in any Deck, which probably means it'll be ignored by Battlin Boxers a bit, which isn't exactly what you want out of a Win Condition card.

 

So yeah I would add some searching capability to it. Maybe make it only Battle Phase protection to promote using the win condition in Battlin Boxers, maybe add a "remove a KO-Counter to add 1 Battlin Boxer from your Deck to your hand" or just have it so you get a Battlin Boxer every time you destroy a monster by battle.

Adding a search effect would be helpful so they aren't reliant on Glassjaw recycling their dead Main Deck stuff. Could probably replace the alt-win con effect with this. At the moment, Boxers aren't really doing too much so yeah.

 

Will break some of the flavor pertaining to boxing, but I guess you can consider it as switching the KO thing for tagging out (I think this is a wrestling thing; not for boxing). It's more oriented towards the Deck it's supposed to be supporting, and fairer.

While I get what you are saying, it is still a very slow win condition to achieve, and it can very easily be stopped if you are playing this with any other archetype that doesn't have that good of protection. Its protection/ ATK gain effect gives you more incentive to use this card in Battlin' Boxers. My reason for making it generic is more along the lines of giving your opponent the chance to take advantage of you using this card. Although thinking about it more clearly no one is going to mess with Lead Yoke while this thing is on the field... Slimmed down too many outs against it barring Kaiju, and some of the Mirror Forces (provided you don't have Jolt Counter).
