If you take damage by battle or by an opponent's card effect while this card is in the Graveyard: You can banish this card from the Graveyard, then target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

 

I grew fond of this card since I gave it a try in an EARTH-themed Shaddoll deck, and it really put good work there for me. Even if it's a bit on the slow side, being able to target and destroy anything, and having a bit of control on when to activate it, is such a welcomed effect. Needless to say, it's not a card you can just splash anywhere, or you may be hurt when you draw it and have no means to discard it or otherwise get it in the GY, or you would rather mill it.

However, IMO a big thing that changed for this card relatively recently is the return of Rescue Cat. Not only Cat is able to search it, also I noticed it's picking up a bit of attention for Summoning certain Link2s like Nephilim by Summoning 2 Guard Dog/Ryko, and Zenmaicon by Summoning their Beast Wind-Ups (e.g. Rat, Cat, even saw a build with Wind-Up Dog). Granted, those decks may be on a casual side at this time, but still, you never know when Cat may make it into a high-tier deck build. So, that makes me wonder if Cerperus could be added as a 1-of tech in any deck running Rescue Cat for the extra utility. Heck, paired with a Beast Tuner you would be able to go for Needlefiber and start some plays, while getting Cerperus in the GY as a sweet backup.

Another thing that may help this card's case is Skulldeat and Firewall Dragon, which can Special Summon it from your hand through their effects and then you follow up with some Link Summoning plays and whatnot and get it in the GY.

I've been using it casually for over a year now. I always try to splash it in decks against friends where Mathematician into this is an ok play. Because everywhere else the opponents will laugh at you for only being able to pop 1 and draw 1 as they OTK you xD

 

Lately I've used Cat to go for this + X-Saber Airbellum (2009 knocked my door I guess).

 

Casually speaking, PeroPero is not super splashable either. You have to have a consistent enough amount of ways of dumping it into the GY. At the same time, you can't overdo it either in a way that outpaces PeroPero, like ending up having to discard a card that requires a discard too, because you didn't have ideal discards. 

 

Shaddolls seem able enough to tech it no problem. Iirc, it was one of the earlier decks that ever used this card (one would think Lightsworns would do it but I haven't seen that personally).

 

This card is one of the many reasons I want Redox back.

Honestly, it's the best nontuner cat can grab, outside of dolls (where you want a FLIP for obvious reasons).

 

Using it to make shekhinaga back in the day was heckin cool, though.
