The Plot

Ah, Knaturighaan. Possibly the most peaceful civilized planet in the Milky Way, if only due to a grim deadlock. Irut, the militaristic mountain folk, and Ank, the bureaucratic, agrarian sea lords, are evenly matched in military power, and both know that an attack on the other would be foolish, for reasons unique to Knaturighaan.

Both nations, however, are fervently exploring, looking for some resource that could give them the edge against their nemesis. Both, roughly at the same time, have discovered the supreme resource: a third kingdom, Naahg, concealed in the icy northern reaches of the world.

Here's the catch: Naahg qualifies as a kingdom. So they won't be able to conquer the folks; rather, they have to win a diplomatic battle. However, an Irutian ambassador met an Anker diplomat en route to Kerem, and soon, the two killed each other over supplies. Hostilities are growing between Irut and Ank as they desperately race to gain Naahg's favor. Naahg's rulers, Alessandra and Azræl Valtiel, are impartially logical enough that any advantage over the other will need to be material. And don't think for a second that most politicians would easily forget their spouses for one of the two.

Ah, and did I mention these kingdoms are all, more or less, run by dragons?

Knaturighaan Information

Kingdoms versus Nations

The massive beasts have had dominion over the magical Knaturighaan humans for some time. However, the humans, with their mystical powers and often heavily anti-draconic weapons, have set up civilizations of their own. When a human and draconic nation join up, a kingdom is formed — hence, there are only three known Knaturighaan kingdoms. Most purely draconic nations fall quickly to one of the kingdoms proper, as a human mage is the only way a dragon can achieve his or her full potential, and most humans carry anti-dragon weapons anyway.

You will be a member of a kingdom if you are sane, as this way you will be able to control two separate characters, and won't instantly fall to a human-dragon alliance.

Sexual Orientations

There are roughly as many homosexuals on Knaturighaan as there are heterosexuals, and there is no prejudice for or against one or the other. Sexual orientation of a dragon bonded with a human can instantly be determined; the human will be the same gender as the dragon's ideal mate.

Note, however, that bisexuality in dragons always dies out as the dragon takes its color. Humans, not so much, but an unbiasedly bisexual human cannot bond with a dragon, so you won't be bisexual.

The Dragons

Ah, this is the meat 'n' potatoes of the post. This could take a while, so choose your color quickly.

Dragons are curious in that their physiology changes in accordance with their temperaments. Though each color and size is a spectrum, it is often impossible for a dragon to deceive others as far as its inner nature. Hence, most spies, diplomats, lawyers, and other such professionals tend to be human: another strength of the kingdoms.

Red Dragon

Image © Xabi-Wan

Red dragons are by far the largest of dragons, often reaching an amazing nine meters, and usually weighing in at around 470 kilograms. Much of this weight is in muscle, so they are fully capable of flight; with a human companion, they rival the best of fliers in aerial speed and maneuvers.

Red dragons, as one might expect, are most adept at controlling fire. They even have the ability to spew fire from their mouths, an art known as fire-breathing, and can consciously control their body temperatures. It is almost impossible to burn a well-trained red dragon, even without a human partner. Fire-breathing, however, usually requires a human mage partner, as it is an imprecise art. It is unknown exactly how this art functions.

Red dragons are bad-tempered and aggressive; this, combined with their enormous size and immense strength, ranks them as the toughest mêlée fighters on Knaturighaan. However, they are also socially mistrusted, and they can have trouble at parties and in stores due to the general fear surrounding their imposing physiques. Restaurants have less problems with them; as legendary as their tempers are their appetites, as their tremendous power requires tremendous energy.

Red dragons are deployed extensively in Irut as front-line soldiers; their flight powers make them perfect for mountain combat, and their close-range skills are second to none, while their fire-breathing makes them deadly even at distances. Ankers, whose main funds come from flammable crops and wooden ships, generally shun the fire-workers. In Naahg, their reception is also favorable, as they require huge amounts of energy, and are therefore excellent hunters. The ability to control their body temperatures, combined with their fire-breathing to melt caves in snowdrifts and glaciers, makes them invaluable for working in the cold.

Brown Dragon

Image © kittykittydragon It's that, but more brownish.

Brown dragons are long, thin, and light. Despite this, their wings are next to nonfunctional, though they can be used as effective shields against either the elements or attacks; therefore, they are completely incapable of flight. Even with a human mage to guide them, they can only fly by tunneling through the air, which virtually nullifies their air combat ability. Ah, and they can't stop in midair without plummeting to the ground.

As might be expected, brown dragons are attuned to the earth. They are expert tunnelers, and are perfect for digging out caverns or raising stone structures. However, this doesn't translate well in combat, which is where their secondary element comes in: their fangs and claws are powerfully venomous.

Brown dragons are cowards and liars. Oftentimes, they'll paint themselves gold to try and pass themselves off as the considerably more courageous — and greedy — gold dragons. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to be infidels in relationships or traitors to their friends; rather, it makes them horrible business partners, as they'll stab any distant acquaintance in the back without hesitation to get away with their lives.

Irutians value the brown dragons highly for their ability to raise stone fortresses quickly, as well as their usefulness in surviving mountain peaks. Ankers also tremendously value brown dragons for their earth powers, as they can till the soil for their agricultural pursuits and greatly enhance its fertility. Only in Naahg are the brown dragons shunned; their earth powers are next to meaningless in a world of ice and snow, and their treachery is frowned upon heavily by the just white dragons and honorable black dragons that dominate the status quo.

Gold Dragon

Image © drakhenliche

Gold dragons are quite large; slender ones can weigh in at 550 kilograms, as featherweight bones are meaningless with such miniscule wings. Their arms are long, and their bodies can be as big as three times their height, which can be as high as three meters.

Gold dragons are most attuned to earth's more mineral characteristics. Expert at scrying for gemstones, gold dragons are businesspeople's best friends, as they can conjure up fortunes more quickly than any other species on Knaturighaan. Warriors, however, would be more interested in their abilities to exploit the mineral compositions of common rocks to exponentially increase hardness; they can turn ordinary rocks into deadly projectile weapons. They're also heavily muscular and extremely powerful at jumping, even if their flight skills are similar to those of brown dragons.

In a word, gold dragons are greedy. Lovers of wealth and absolute hoarders of whatever it is they adore, gold dragons are ruthless when it comes to money or their collectible of choice. One of the most loved fables amongst the Naahg people, even by the few gold dragons residing there, involves an enormous, influential gold dragon that collected humans that was stopped only by a small band of multicolored bonded dragons. It's pathetically simple to bribe gold dragons, but they're ruthlessly efficient mercenaries with tons of drive. The most admirable of gold dragons, the white dragons claim, are those who can motivate themselves with small or profound rewards; they then become resolved, ultra-driven heroes of their own accord.

Irutians prize gold dragons, as it is mainly in their mountains that precious gems can be scried for and found in. Ankers also love gold dragons, though for entirely different reasons; a bribed, bonded gold dragon can sometimes be the only defense against an Irutian red dragon-mage pair. Naahg citizens loathe most gold dragons, but if they only ask for small rewards and know when to draw the line, they're welcomed with open arms for their drive and combat prowess.

Black Dragon

Image © el-grimlock

Black dragons are massive. While not as big as red dragons, it's rare to find one smaller than eight meters high. As these dragons have functional wings, their bones weigh almost nothing, so they only weigh about 400 kilograms on average. They're still deceptively strong, however, so even the mightiest of dragons would do well to watch out.

Black dragons are the only beings on Naahg with powers over darkness. It is unknown how they can change where light is absent, even to themselves, but their powers can still nonetheless be extremely effective for cloaking, and their night vision makes them brutal as stealth fighters. They can also manipulate lightning, if to a more limited extent than the green dragons who specialize in wind powers.

Black dragons are coldly logical, and usually, their common sense overrides their emotions. They can seem socially awkward, blunt, and apathetic because of this, but really, it's just their way of seeing the world. They abhor gossip and small-talk, as they generally consider speech as a means to an end rather than vice versa. However, they're by far the most intelligent of all dragon types, willing to let their minds overtake their souls. Probably the only emotions that can shake their unbiased worldview are love and vengeance.

Black dragons can only be found in Naahg, where culture inadvertently nurtures this color of dragon. However, the presence of black dragons, which can easily match red and white dragons in combat, is part of what makes Naahg special. The power and intellect of black dragons makes them dominate the status quo.

Green Dragon

Image © Isdrake

Green dragons are lords of the wind element. Though they aren't terrifically high, their wingspans are enormous, easily stretching to nine and a half meters. They're featherweights, though, and are the lightest of all dragon species at an average 340 kilograms. As one might guess, they're extremely aerodynamic.

Lords of the sky, green dragons assisted by a human mage can match the swiftest of raptor birds in aerial maneuvering. Their enormous wings can generate devastating gales which, augmented by human magic, can blow down buildings in a few wingbeats, or act as invisible cutting weapons. However, they are somewhat weak in mêlée combat, as most of their muscles are focused at their wings.

Green dragons are laid-back and very relaxed, but in reality, they're very passionate about what they actually believe in. They're unswervingly loyal, if not terrifically hardworking, and it's almost impossible to shake their stance on something. Unfortunately, they're also lazy, and generally don't offer much in the way of physical strength, so they're the worst dragon one could possibly have for labor of any kind. They take joy in the simplest of leisure activities, such as flying and simple games, mostly because of the feeling they provide of being free.

Irutians don't mind green dragons, as they can tolerate the high altitudes of the mountainous environment; they're usually used as back-line soldiers that fire sharp winds over the backs of frontline red and gold dragons. Ankers, however, practically worship them, as they can push ships through any weather with their enormous wingbeats. They also provide excellent defenses against Irut's red dragons, as their winds can dispel or extinguish fire-breath, and keep them away from Ank's own mêlée fighters until they're disoriented and ready to be ripped apart. Naahg tolerates green dragons, but doesn't revel in their presence.

Blue Dragon

Image © saeto15

Blue dragons are merely average in size, usually weighing in at around 450 kilograms. Big ones will reach eight meters in length. Note that the wingspan of a blue dragon is larger than those one might expect on a sea serpent; they can technically fly well with a human mage to aid them.

Blue dragons mainly control water. They're the best swimmers amongst all the dragons, and have numerous powers over water, including the ability to purify water, call up massive waves, create ice darts from water vapor in the air, create drinking water from ice, and draw up groundwater. These powers come at a price, however; they're slow, bulky fliers, and are ineffective at air combat without a human mage to assist them.

Blue dragons are mostly self-centered types. They're gregarious attention-seekers who will surround themselves with friends and acquaintances to make themselves feel important. They can be fickle, and are by far the most unfaithful in romantic relationships of all the dragon types. However, they're very nice and cheerful, and are usually the morale-boosters of any team they're on. Their optimism and effervescence can be annoying to more serious types.

Blue dragons, ironically, are universally liked. Irut and Naahg in particular enjoy the presence of blue dragons, as water can be very hard to come by in their barren territories. Ankers like blue dragons for very different reasons; they can find water easily, but blue dragons can control the tides and help guide their ships.

White Dragon

Image © drachen-herz.com

White dragons are quite large. They're larger than blue dragons, with the large ones reaching eight and a half meters and 460 kilograms. Oftentimes, large ones rival red dragons in size.

White dragons, like black dragons, are fairly even in their abilities to cross sky, sea, and land. However, their power sets are completely different; they control light and heat. Like red dragons, they have some power over heat, and can focus an existing light source, like the Sun or a lamp, into a burning laser. The lasers are much more maneuverable and hot with a human mage to help focus it, though; an unbonded white dragon will have serious trouble trying to strike with its laser if it misses initially, and the laser will be far less powerful.

White dragons are fearsome and intimidating, and for good reason. Viciously proud, stern, and vengeful, the wrath of a white dragon is something to be feared. Fortunately, they aren't nearly as aggressive as red dragons, and the only way to work up their tempers is to go against their values. The downside is, they can be quite gullible, especially if it is suggested they have been tricked or deceived. Also, unless you suggest they've been tricked, a misled white dragon is impossibly stubborn.

Irutians and Ankers have little use for white dragons, so most are generally not accepted. However, recently, the Irutian General Oldo-àn has begun recruiting white dragons for their drive, stubbornness, and versatility in combat. Most white dragons are created in Naahg, however, and more than eighty percent of the population lives there. In Naahg, they cooperate very well with the honorable black dragons, and generally dominate the status quo.

In order to learn an Lv3 Ability, you need to dedicate all your primary element Ability Points to it! Fortunately, leveled Abilities are /much/ more powerful than unleveled ones, so sometimes having just two abilities can be better than having five unleveled ones.

FAQ

Q: How many characters can I have?

A: 2; 1 human and 1 dragon. You can technically control only one or the other, but if you do, you're screwed, as humans alone will get crushed, and dragons alone can't use any abilities.

Q: What items are available to me?

A: Walk into a shop and find out.

Q: You didn't PM me with a new application! Why?

A: You weren't accepted.

Q: Why is this an attachment?

A: Some bug means this won't show up as a post. Don't ask me; I'm as confused as you are.

Q: I have a question that isn't here!

A: Ask it on the thread. If it's good or bad enough, I'll add it.

Name: Azkhan Smoothtongue

Gender: M

Age: 25

Kingdom: Ank

Personality: Azkhan isn't exactly the bravest of sorts; he usually manipulates and tricks others to fight his battles. He is wickedly intelligent, one of the most quick-thinkers and tacticians in Ank... if only he didn't use all his skill for himself. He is extremely selfish and everything he does he all center around his personal welfare. He is also a coward and would rather stab a person in the back than face them in actual combat, no matter what their skill level is. He also is a gifted liar, being able to talk himself out of the most tense of situations, which is one of the reasons he has gained the title of "Smoothtongue". Also has kleptomaniac tendencies.

History: Azkhan was born to a rich and influential family in Ank. A son of the social elite in that area, Azkhan was forced to be well behaved, not be rude, always mop up your face, don't talk with your mouth full, etc. Ever since birth he was always told what to do and what not to do and he was sick of it. At the age of seven he ran away from home into an entirely different, strange world. Taken as a farmhand by a cruel Anker farmer Azkhan plowed the fields, day and night. Eventually he ran away from there, too, into a city. There in the city he was found by a kindly blacksmith and helped him in his forge. But at the age of ten the blacksmith was murdered by a gang of thieves who in turn kidnapped Azkhan. Teaching him as an apprentice, Azkhan soon became the greatest liar and manipulator in the entire city. Leaving the gang at the age of thirteen Azkhan took to being a highwayman, but with no dragon of his own it proved a little difficult. So he decided to be a thief and a merchant, selling his stolen goods to travelers. He also manipulated others who have wronged him into emotional breakage, and enjoyed it immensely.

Weapon Skills: Blowpipe filled with poison darts, and a Knife (for last resort mêlée combat should the need arouse)

Name: Commander, Sykes Granville

Gender: M

Age: 28

Kingdom: Irut, since there's so many Naahgs -_-"

Personality: Sykes is a self reliant person who usually focuses on one goal. He is determined, yet he can still be persuaded unless it's something he really wants. He is ruthless tyrant when it comes to his goal, he is dark and sinister and will not hesitate to do away with someone who gets in his way...

History: When Sykes was a child his parents were very supportive of his goals and his intents. At the age of 20 Sykes moved away from his past home of Ank to become something great and wanted to fight in the war. At the age of 21 Sykes did away with his foolish mother and father, for they were trying to stop his new goals and persuade him to try something else. Originally when Sykes came to Irut he was looking to become the general of the whole army. When she was freed from jail at the age 20 her auntie did not speak to her and nobody would take her in. So she then made her life by wandering the kingdoms and doing jobs for people to get money for food, drink and clothes (so she does not live in rags). Name: Lord William Matthers

Gender: M

Age: 27

Kingdom: Naahg

Personality: William is a strategic person, with an IQ of 119. He doesn't like making enemies, but if he has any, he shall do his best to vanquish them. Cares for his friends and allies more than everything. Also, he is very generous. He prefers solving things in a diplomatic way. If that isn't possible, his swords will take care of the problem.

History: William is the successor of Lord Gawain Matthers. He was born on the estate he takes care of these days, to his father, the local Lord, and Violette Mathers, a daughter of a Naahg nobleman. Everything he is skilled in, like diplomacy, swordsmanship and hunting, was taught to him by his father, who is now dead. He took over the estate when he was 21, and until now several attacks were launched on it, but were deflected by William and his troops. An important figure in his life is his younger brother, Azrael, who saved his life two times (First being when Azrael grabbed William and saved him from falling over from a wall in their castle, and the other when he was hit by an arrow on the battlefield instead of Will. Of course, Azrael is still alive.). William loves playing chess, and managed to beat even his mother, who was the one to teach him how to play. When he was 24, his mother passed away. Today, William and his forces pledged their loyalty to the ruler of Naahg and the Naahg Army, where William acts as a Commander, and Azrael as a First Class Captain.

Weapon Skills: Swords, knives, bow and arrow.
