Yep, I even try to catch it at the same or close to the same location, same level, and without master balls. Some of them can be a pain though (victini is "hard" to catch because its so low level). Though, I may not need to once I get my 3DS, because that one will have a more up to date security system that will allow it to hook up to my wifi. :)

TBH its not much different from continually turning the game off and on just to get the pokemon you want with the ability and nature you want.

dont you live in like german or swedland or finden?

Nah, but when I tried ordering Rock Band 3 about two weeks before it came out, I had to wait like two extra weeks before getting it. Bullshit.

Hell no. I'm Massachusetts all the way~

And geh. Trying to squeeze together an in-game team is getting annoying. I'm doing Samurott as the starter, but everything else is juggling around. D:

An irl friend and I apparently are going to try to get into competitive pokemanz.

Dark Anyone want to tutor me?

Your best bet is to go to smogon. Really I think most people learn about competitive pokemanz there. All we could do is make team recommendation since everything else we may say would just be coming from smogon anyway.

Flame Dragon, don't be so rude. :D

I'm sure that if you want to learn the Gen V metagame, just like if you want to learn how to play chess, experiment like hell. No one is going to call you a retard unless you try using Specs Groudon with Solarbeam. Ask me and Flame Dragon any and all questions you have, but know that I call people morons more often.

PokeLab is a good place to get Gen IV experience, and soon Gen V, and Pokemon Online is the only simulator for Gen V at the moment. So experiment, and we can be your pseudo-tutors, since Pokemon isn't something easily tutorable. You just learn it, really, and practice.

I'm using smogon right now anyways, and I'm familiar with terms. At least somewhat. I have Pokemon Online right now, the only problem is I don't uhm... Know exactly how to start. I'm looking through some Pokemon in their Strategy Pokedex, but I don't really have a good idea on how to start. xD

The first step should always be deciding on the type of team. Examples include:

  • Hyper-Offensive
  • Bulky Offense
  • Balance
  • Stall
  • Weather

The type of team you pick dictates what you do next.

Ah, well I'm interested in a Weather team, mainly sandstorm based. I'm guessing Tyranitar/Hippowdon are good choices?

EDIT: Found a guide for it. Reading now.

If you're new to battling, go ahead and make Balanced teams. They aren't the worst (I really think Stall is the worst for Gens IV and V), but they are so easy to make. Just use a simple set-up:

Lead, not a suicide lead.

Physical Attacker

Special Attacker

Physical Wall

Special Wall

Free Choice

The free choice should tie your team together, patch any weaknesses to certain types or Pokemon, possibly be a finisher, et cetera. Make sure at least one of your attackers is an early-game attacker and one is a late-game. I usually use a ScarfRachi lead that acts as my early-game attacker due to Serene Grace Iron Head.

I made a video on teambuilding for Gen IV, and while it isn't comprehensive, it's kind of accurate and helps getting an idea down on paper. My YouTube channel is VoidedKurai, and I do believe that was the first video I ever made.

Also, personally with Special/Physical Sweepers, I find it better to use a Specs/Scarf Special Sweeper and a set-up Physical Sweeper. I find it works very well as special sweepers have a better typepool that can hit neutral and super effective on a lot of pokes. Also, Physical Sweepers usually have a little bit of natural bulk to them, so they can take a hit while setting up.

My suggestion for a free choice, if you don't have a Specs or a Scarfer, use one, and use 4 moves that counter threats to your team. It has worked very well in the past for me.

Alright, thanks guys. I'm going to check out your video Dark and see if I can make me a balanced team. I do however have a sandstorm one up at the minute, but I haven't really tested it. xD

EDIT: Uh yeah, used your team set-up and I did pretty well. :3

Mainly because the Gen IV Special Sweepers were all really powerless and were shut down easily by Blissey. You could never run a team of all Special Sweepers because of Blissey, which is why the free choice should be something Physical, and also why Special Sweepers are relegated to spots like Specs or Scarf, because they can't set up. IT'S FUTILE.

And Leo makes a good point; always have one Choicer on your team. No more, no less. Any more leaves you restricted (unless you are really good, then you can run two or three), and zero means you probably don't have a hit-and-run type Pokemon. It's not important, but it really does help, since you won't always have an opportunity to set up and sweep.

When building teams, I prefer balance teams that are half stall half bulky offense. My team is not the same without a decent ghost electric ;-;, it just doesn't have the synergy it did before with any of the other ghosts in game. Oh well, its back to the drawing board.

P.S. don't give away too much when you post your team, otherwise wifi opponents might be able to predict what you have planned. The most you should post is the pokemon you use and not their builds, unless you are not using those builds anymore.

Well just finished main story line with Mijumaru <--- and that was what i nicknamed him :D i used only 5 pokemon for E4 and like 4 pokemon for other parts

Daikenki(Samurott), The eletric spider, Haxorus, Krookodile(had moxie ability), and got Golurk for E4 (forgot to go to move tutor to get shadow punch on him >.<) had a watchog for HM slave XD

Now i started over and now start with Snivy. (gonna test out all 3 starters to determine what i like, but i really like Daikenki :D, but have to try others as well along with a different team of pokes
