Personally I feel as though Jae takes on a more "feminine" approach to a name than Jaelin does. Honestly, the spelling is the only real reason I'd think twice about the gender, since Jaylen is undoubtedly a male name.

Jaelin is a male name, so in either scenario (Jae or Jaelin) you'd be mistaken as male from the name alone.

However, think of it moreso as an Alexandra-Alex approach to a name. While we all know Alexandra is a female name, Alex has some gray area to it. It's a bit similar for Jaelin-Jae; Jaelin is obviously a male name, but Jae can be either.

A... woman? With our name? Dear God, how does that happen? Closest I've ever heard is "Joshelle" as a middle name.

Oh, of course. Male and female names are assuming that the parents naming their kid are normal. I don't know how normal Clair's parents are (no insult intended), so I can't really say anything for certain.

What I can say is that in a normal scenario, Jae sounds more feminine than Jaelin does, although both are used more often in males than in females (and in a perfectly normal society, only used in males).

And even not in a normal scenario, assuming Jaelin was an acceptable female name, from what I've experienced, Jae sounds a lot better as a feminine name. Both Jay and Jaylen are masculine, of course, but the spelling change takes away a bit of that. But again, it's the Alexandra-Alex problem again: the former is very feminine (or masculine in Jaelin's case), while the latter is omnisexual.

Mine's Nikki.
And I f*cking hate it.
And to think my parents nearly named me Allyssa... I would have prefered that.
And there's something annoying about my name to.
You can spell it different ways, like many names. The most common spelling is Nicky.
And a lot of my teachers in prep wrote my name as Nicky. A lot of people do.
And then everyone thinks my name is Nicole, and that everyone just calls me Nikki for short.

Michael is an archangel in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic tradition. He is viewed as the field commander of the Army of God. He is mentioned by name in the Book of Daniel, the Book of Jude, and the Book of Revelation, in which he leads God's armies against Satan's forces during his uprising.

If you know me well enough, you understand how damn ironic this is.
