I want to know why these are being added. It just seems unneeded.

It's the keep the game fresh, I guess, and to keep people interested. If you think of it from a marketing standpoint, it only makes sense to add more cards of a new type to the list. People will want to buy them to try them out and see for themselves how they work and if they're any good. Same reasoning behind creating Archetypes (though they also sometimes have an added bonus of being overpowered).

There will probably be monster whose effects are active while Overlaid or something like that. I have to see some more cards, but this could get me playing again. The whole concept seems a lot less broken than Synchros were.

I agree with this. It is much less broken than synchro which could mean a more balanced future where godlike synchros are reigned in by the banlist. Fake or not the entire idea sounds fun and I really like the fact it prevents mixing levels like tuners currently do.

I mean synchro was REALLY shoved down our throats with the 'bent-over-backwards' ease of special summoning them to get 2 monsters together on the field. Konami sold field presence out like it was cindy lauper and a kodak commercial. Before synchro you actually had to work at field presence - now cards like torrential and dark hole are hardly an eraser on a blackboard. You clean the field just to fill it up again next turn.

Now all decks are zombies decks. Watch in some of your irl duels and see how quickly the field empties and then immediately fills up again. I'm ready to see the generic synchro monsters go the way of chaos emperor dragon and see a better balance for cost of summoning. I like exceed summoning a lot.

it certainly would make phantom skyblaster a relevant card choice.

EXCEED SUMMON!

Anyway, the concept of Overlaying is something I've been wanting to see, but they messed it up. I had initially thought Exceed monsters only need one monster, but two require two monsters if the exact same level makes it tedious, plus I think that they would fit better in the Extra Deck, since they work like Synchros and some Fusions. I'm curious what the color frame will be though. All I can think of is brown and red.

Look what I found on said lolwiki~
This is what Aero Shark looks like:

Hmmm.... Look at that, the 'aero' part is overlaying 2 sharks

tl;dr so this may have already been said but Gravekeepers could play this easily and Summoner Monk makes for an easy Excess Summon as well, for Level 8's anyway. I reckon if they made the effects good enough for it to be worth it, a Gravekeeper variant would make for quite an interesting build. Seem too specific though and not really broken enough.

I don't like Overlaid cards. It ruins a lot of things. I think I prefer Fusions, Rituals, and Synchros to these kind of things.

I'm actually into the whole Overlaid thing. Seems pretty fun. But just imagining having like a Level 5 Excess Monster with 5 Level 1 monsters under it xD It'd take forever to remove that monster from the field, and it'd protect the user from OTK's for a bit.

Effectivly its like using counters, except the monster cards themselves are the counters.

More or less you tuned a Fog Counter to an A-Counter and created a Synchro monster from that, which then gets those 2 counters placed on it.

It doesn't "ruin" anything, what are you talking about? Please, explain your reasoning before you condemn the concept.

Shall I explain my reasoning?

Card games are meant to be separate, so you and your opponent can see every card. Yu-Gi-Oh was never intended to be a stacking game. You'd basically have a mini deck beneath your monster like this, and for absolutely no reasons except for game-play. If people play with Duel Disks, one wouldn't be able to fit six cards onto a single monster slot. This is in real life, mind you.

I can think of two other reasons, but I'm too lazy to type them down.
