mucho credito para night baby. <3

Welcome to the third edition of the Video Game Music Station! With permission from
Dark, Mikhail Tal, and Opalmoon, I'm going to attempt to
start this station up again! The first two stations were huge successes, garnering over 175 combined tracks over the span of their
respective runs. You can find them here,
and here.

Video game music is an integral part of any game. Ranging from that classic overworld theme from Super Mario Bros. to the
heavily orchestrated tracks of Okami, video games would definitely not be the same without a defining soundtrack. Fighting a
boss battle, witnessing a character death, watching the credits scroll by... all are made more emotive by the bleeps and bloops, or
the orchestrations playing in the background.

Obviously, this station would be nothing without contributions from members. I really encourage you to post your own favorite
VGM here for all to see. If it's awesome enough, I'll put it up here. If it blows my brain out with sexiness, then you get a rep. This
station cannot survive without contributions, so feel free to share your favorites! For the first time, all stations will be made up
of contributions from members and not from me. (save for the Editor's Picks station and the Featured station) Keep this thread
alive with your music, guys!

Thanks for your time, and I hope you stay tuned into the Video Game Music Station!

To contribute, all you need to do is post the name of the song and the link! It's that simple!

theme.
Tune Nostalgia (TN) - This station is reserved for all sorts of retro goodness. (NES era-SNES era)
Warning! Challenger Approaching! (WCA) - For every bit of your battle VGM goodness, the WCA station is here for

David Wise is the man, period. The composer that brought us the OSTs for Donkey Kong Country is undoubtedly the master of the SNES game music era. Each track of his music has such an ambient feel, and goes above and beyond the quality of music expected of such a retro game system. Thank you, Mr. Wise, for continuing to push gaming hardware to the limit with your beats!
Rain (Pre-Release Version) - Halo 3 ODST

This track is absolutely beautiful and showcases the depth of modern VGM composition. It begins with a lilting and sorrowful
piano soli, with soft saxophone interludes. I just find this piece absolutely relaxing and just a bit sorrowful. Towards :46, violins
come in and really exemplify the downtrodden mood of the track. This Pre-Release Version is cut short, but the full track can be
found here.

I don't know, I just liked this version more. x)

Main Theme - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

This track was my favorite for the longest of times. It has a catchy, modern beat infused with classic instruments. What more
could a VGM geek like me want? This song is definitely one of the most majestic themes of any game ever, especially at 3:02.
Simply beautiful, this track almost makes you forget that Snake would be throwing grenades at plumbers some time later.

Shenhua - Shenmue

Shenmue was a deep, and emotional game. Ryo's struggles are encapsulated in this theme, my favorite track from the iconic
"Shenmue" and easily one of the most moving. In a game spiked with tragedy, Shenhua gives you hope with an epic orchestration,
but reminds you of sad roots with lilting erhu solos. Anyone who is a fan of Japanese-flavored music should definitely give this
game a try.

Track 11 - Spider-Man vs. the Kingpin

This song is one of my favorite tracks of all time. The musical drive of this song just rocks your pants off, as real guitarists solo
and break your "rock on!" meter. The Sega CD finally allowed for quality VGM tracks, and this one has stuck with me for ages.
Stick with this one for the entire duration of the piece, if you like getting your face shredded off by the amazing rock feel it
provides.

Phantasmagoric - Mother 3

Just when I thought the Mother soundtrack couldn't get any better, this soul-wrenching music started playing at the end of the
game. Watching fires blaze around you as the Dragon creates a new Tazmily, right after the senseless death of someone close to
you... no amount of words can describe how deeply emotive this piece is. The game ends with this music, and at 2:00, I started
bawling. Mother 3 is truly a forgotten masterpiece, especially in the VGM category.

Forest - Blaster Master

One of the most underrated tracks of its time, Forest captures the upbeat feel of the Blaster Master OST. It begins with a driving
beat, but doesn't lack flow at :46. I deeply love this game music, and I can safely assure you that the other tracks in this game live
up to expectations.

Title Screen - Spider-Man and the X-Men

Yessss. Nothing was better in my little childhood years than the old arcade games down at the store. One of these games was
"Spider-Man and the X-Men", and right from the Title Screen, I knew this game would eat up my quarters for a while. I loved the
screaming guitar licks and the old-fashioned synth of the arcade. Please take a listen?

Welcome to Rapture - Bioshock

Happy Rapture Day everyone! To celebrate, I dug up my favorite tune from Bioshock, the insanely whimsical and discordant "Welcome to Rapture". The violins make the piece, as they form a warped melody. The modern orchestration also boosts the song's appeal as it backs the violins. Take a listen!

Theme of Sakuya Izayoi (Remix) - Touhou: Scarlet Weather Rhapsody

This song is... wow. It grabs you right from the beginning and never lets go, with a superb techno beat. This remix replaces violins with synthesizers... and a fully sped up song gives this piece a dance-like feel. I love when it breaks away from the beat for a slower, more melodic approach. This song is great for motivating people, just saying.

Monkey's Delivery Service - Mother 3
This song is grating, and it matches the mood of the situation perfectly. Stacked for time, you must deliver a set of packages to certain townsfolk on time... before your cruel master catches you. It's decidedly melancholic, and I just love how instruments keep getting added to the piece to build on the melody.
General Music
Fighting of the Spirit - Tales of Phantasia
Contribution by ~ Hayate Ayasaki

This song is intense, and I forget whether it took place during a battle or not. Regardless, I'm putting this in General. This track
grabs you by the hair from the very beginning and takes you for a ride, what a thrilling ride it is. Infused with fast-paced electric
riffs and a wicked bassline, this song wouldn't let me go from its awesomeness, and I thank Hayate for letting me hear it. This is
PlayStation music at its finest. Oh, and you can check out a totally awesome remix here.

Main Theme - Ghost Trick
Contribution by ~ Wind Sorcerer Vaati

This composition is unbelievable. When I first listened to it, I just couldn't believe that the DS was capable of cranking out such
musical goodness. And yet, here I sit, the funky Main Theme of Ghost Trick washing over me. Cutting basslines are replaced by
an ambient feel at 1:02, and I really think that this music is appropriate for a detective game. This piece makes you feel at
peace, but it also keeps your ears tuned in. I love Ice's fanboyism for this track.

Theme of Ethan Mars - Heavy Rain
Contribution by ~ Grand Raine

Raine, I love you for contributing this track. This is easily my favorite out of the entire Heavy Rain soundtrack. It exemplifies
Ethan Mars's sadness in a truly touching manner, with stirring dynamic contrast and soulful violin. This song could send someone
into depression, I'm sure. However, at points in the song, the music flares up, as if there is hope for Ethan. A truly moving
masterpiece, and I'm so glad it was recommended.

Witch Hunting - Disgaea
Contribution by ~ Engetsu

Oh god, I love Disgaea's music. Engetsu first showed me this eargasmtastic track over PM, and now you all must listen to it. It is
beautifully orchestrated and fast-paced, it feels like a giant chase. The frenzied tempo and violins make for a dynamic combo, as
all sorts of instruments get in on the action. I wholeheartedly encourage you to check out the rest of Disgaea's OST. You will not
be disappointed.

Ashes - Halo Reach
Contribution by ~ Mako109

Just because this is a Halo game doesn't mean I'm going to rip on it for no reason. Once you look past all of the hype and blood,
this game boasts an impressive soundtrack. I found "Ashes" to be riveting and heartrending. As I understand, this music plays
softly during the final cutscene of the game, making it all the more powerful. Clear piano and orchestral flair elevate this piece
above the rest, and I thank Mako for recommending it.

Farewell - Pokemon Black/White
Contribution by ~ Mikhail Tal

I don't really know where to begin with this piece. Pokemon Black and White has undoubtedly the best handheld music in a
while, and this song is a perfect indicator of the beauty and moving melodies of the soundtrack. The circumstances behind this
composition make it all the more emotional... N's betrayal and subsequent departure would not have been the same without this
music playing softly in the background. Beautiful, just beautiful. It makes me tear up just thinking about it. And since I don't feel
like I'm doing this piece justice...

"Beautiful, utterly beautiful. A note to Mother fans - stop patronizing us. We know this sounds like the iconic Love Theme, and we
adore it for that. I love Mother 3, but just because you love Mother doesn't make you any more sophisticated than us. I
adore the Mother series, but Pokemon is something special to me. It holds nostalgia, childhood, a reminder of
innocence and happiness. Don't see us as ignorant, see us for the fellow VG fans we are. This goes for the Console
Wars too - just be happy." - Mikhail Tal (on YouTube)

I couldn't agree more.

Theme of Xion - Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Contribution by ~ Dark

Xion was your friend, turned enemy. And like all sad games, she died. This heart-wrenching tune echoes feelings of separation
and despair with melodious bells and a humming violin line. I thank Dark for suggesting this, because this one of the most sad and
most beautiful pieces of all time. Given the circumstances in which this music is played, you're not human if you don't feel just a bit
bad.

I have a craving for some ice cream now.

Special Stage 1 - Mega Man 10
Contribution by ~ Wind Sorcerer Vaati

Even though this song may seem decidedly retro, the awesome people at Nintendo brought back new tracks of Mega Man
quality back to the Wii. This is one of the more stunning examples, and I thank Vaati for finding it. It has harsh, grating sound, but
that motivates you to push that much harder through the stage. The 8-bit riffs throughout the song are really awesome, and sound
like an electric guitar solo would today!
Arctic - Super Monkey Ball
Contribution by ~ ZeroChill

Super Monkey Ball has one of the most underrated soundtracks out there. This calm and serene music manages to drive you
forward while providing a nice backdrop to the laid-back atmosphere of the game. The synth beats make this track feel oddly
relaxing, and I have often listened to it before bed. Don't fall off the edge!
Simple and Clean - Kingdom Hearts
Contribution by ~ Shradow

Oh god, I love this song. The first Kingdom Hearts remains the only KH game I have even touched (sadly), and this music still
sticks with me to this day. Hikaru really did an excellent job with this piece, her voice is so beautiful in tandem with the moving
lyrics and the beat that grabs you right from the start. In a series known for badass music, this track certainly stands out. It is
honestly the best vocal VGM I have heard in a while.
Clipping Their Wings - Medal of
Honor: Frontline
Contribution by ~ Sabotage

In all our nostalgia and thirst for the 8-bit beeps and bloops of the retro era, we sometimes forget about the majesty within a good
modern track of VGM. I thank Sabotage for showing me this track, and I really hope that you take a listen. The full orchestra
kicks in at around 3:15, but you'll enjoy the ride this song takes you on until then, I promise. The violins, the deep brass voices...
all are prevalent here!
Sammer Kingdom - Super Paper Mario
Contribution by ~ The Happy Mask Salesman

I just love Super Paper Mario's musical style. It contains an influx of modern beats coupled with nostalgic 8-bit sound to bring
you a decidedly "new-age" retro track. Sammer's Kingdom is one of my favorite songs from the aforementioned game, mainly
because it sounds like a ditzy, high-strung Okami track on drugs. Authenic Japanese sound, coupled with the upbeat tone of this
track, make it worth listening to!
Sealed Time - Ys: Oath of Felghana
Contribution by ~ DSS

I am thrilled that DSS has opened my eyes to a brand-new game soundtrack, and this one is definitely worth a listen. It starts out
with a bit of a dance beat, but then shocks you with a violin that sings, before proceeding to shred your ears with some awesome
guitar beats. A driving force keeps this song rocking, and I deeply recommend you take a listen to it. ^^

Theme of Koishi Komeiji - Touhou 11
Contribution by ~ Jord200

Touhou music is just one soundtrack that I've never really gotten around to listening to, because there's so many tracks. However,
I'm always very glad when I get to take a listen to one of these tracks. The key changes in this particular piece were stunning and
surprising, and I just found the beat to be very catchy. The same could be said for all Touhou music, though. ;D
Blue Tears - Rogue Galaxy
Contribution by ~ Engetsu

Oh my God, I love Engetsu for opening up my eyes to this piece, and this OST in general. The composition is my favorite of the
bunch, because it sounds so moving and sad. Simplistic, melodious tracks with lyrical lines often have huge emotional impacts
when played correctly. This track brings back vibes of Aerith's Theme and the like.

Shining Dew - Tales of Symphonia
Contribution by ~ ZeroChill

WHOOOOOOO. I'm always up for some Tales music, and this piece stood out to me from the awesome tracks I've heard... in a
different way. It's not fast-paced or frenzied, but it is beautiful, like Chill said. The melody is very present, and the track itself is
very ambient. If you want to relax, this is the piece to listen to. ^^

Quatera Woods - Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim
Contribution by ~ DSS

What a song to welcome me back with! I simply fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It's whimsical and dramatic in a simultaneous fashion, and made me think of faraway lands. The piece is a bit odd for overworld music, but the melody is astoundingly catchy and there is no doubt I'll be humming this later. Thank you, DSS!

Contribution by ~ ZeroChill

I'm always up for more Tales music, and ZeroChill hasplenty. I love this one that he suggested in particular, as I find it both soothing and somewhat majestic. The tranquility of the piece is emitted perfectly through the airy tones of the instrumentation, and there is no doubt that this piece is another gem in the Tales library.

Contribution by ~ Shradow

I don't think this VGMS has any FE music in it, which is simply criminal. The opening to this song was both refreshing and eerie, and it set the stage for the beautiful orchestration that was about to come. I feel a great sense of calm while listening to this piece, as if I'm walking through a graveyard. Creepy, eerie, and simply amazing. I need to listen to more Fire Emblem.

Contribution by ~ King Crouton

The first VGM King Crouton lent to me was a doozy. I was barely twenty seconds in and I was already finding the backbeat insanely catchy. At :45 the piece surprised me with a well-placed electric piano. At 2:30, the piece takes on a more ambient feel but never loses that sense of rhythm. Take a listen!

Contribution by ~ Sabotage

I thank Mako for his awesome piece that he found. This was my first taste of Starfox Assault music, and it failed to disappoint. I like this song in particular, the heavy bassline and the airy violin melody just really sound catchy to me... I especially adore the airy feel of the piece! Thank you!

Contribution by ~ Articuno

I don't remember hearing this song, and I thak Articuno for recommending it! I missed out on a real beauty... the twangy bassline and the reflective melody nail the "look back on all that you've done" aspect of the music. I love the harmonica and the different instruments utilized to create the melody. A deep song this is... take a listen, guys!

Contribution by ~ Zegram Ghart
Engetsu has been sending me beautiful tunes from this game via PM, and I am really grateful for him and his taste in VGM. Here we have another beauty from an RPG game. The track is fully orchestrated, and drives you on with a flute and a powerful brass and strings section. This song makes you feel as if you can do anything... a great motivator, if you will! Take a listen!

Contribution by ~ ZombiePigman

This song made me cry when I first beat the game. Beanbean Kingdom was such a hilarious trip, and it was heart-wrenching to see it fly by in a star-studded skyscape. The whimsical tone of this piece underscores how truly lighthearted this game was, but it also makes you think about your past adventure. With soft acousitics, and a carefree whistle, this song found its way into my heart.

Alright, I've decided to appease Zero by putting some of Golden Sun's ahhhh-mazing OST on here. Venus Lighthouse is a personal favorite. I love how it has an epic feel... especially considering that it utilized GBA hardware. The violin sound flows beautifully. Hell, the entire soundtrack is very well done. YESSSSS. Thank you for bringing some jazz into this station, thank you so much. The piece plays out just as the title suggests. Syrupy sax and a calm free-flowing beat dominate this song. I simply love it... if you are a fan of jazz, this is a must-listen! Going on my iPod...

Contribution by ~ ChilledFlames

This song brings back memories of flattening stumps and Needle Noses with Chomp Rocks and exploring Yoshi's crystal caverns.
I believe that this music really evokes the emotions that a cave is supposed to bring out. It has a mellow melody, along with a
mournful whistle that exemplifies loneliness and peace. The lilting baseline almost makes me want to drift off to sl- OH MY GOD

Thanks, Chilled!

Contribution by ~ Jord200

Please forgive me if this song was in any of the previous video game music stations, my memory is a bit hazy. With a track as epic
as Zero Two's, however, it deserves to be in this station multiple times. The song kicks you off with a throbbing bassline, then
bringing in a somber chorus of driving synth beats. Truly epic music for a truly epic boss.

Contribution by ~ ZeroChill

I swear, ZeroChill is getting to be a pro at finding old music that will appeal to me. This is one of the most jazzy Sonic pieces I've
heard in a long time, and it, just for a moment, lifts the Genesis above the NES in terms of sound quality. A twangy bass line fills in
the gaps as the melody takes off. Makes me want to dance!

Contribution by ~ Jord200

This tune is an instant classic to me. It's perfect for an end boss... driving beats promote quick thinking and a dark overtone has
you on the edge of your seat. I can definitely some Castlevania influences in this track, such as the organ line. In a game with not
so pretty graphics, Seven Stars really shines in the soundtrack department. Thank you, Jord.

This track is noisy, grating, and discordant. But that is why I love it so much. This piece showcases Imakuni's Duel perfectly, a
quirky battle between you and the flippant Japanese pop icon. He may be easy to beat, but I found myself stalling for a few turns
just to listen to this track.

It's so beautifully odd!

One thing that the previous stations were lack was this piece, the emotive and flowing Song of Healing. (Correct me if I'm
wrong!) This song is easily one of the more moving tracks in the Zelda timeline. The N64's trademark synthesizer hums lightly in
the background while clear-cut piano plays somberly as the melody? Yes, please. Thank you, Dane. Please stop changing your

I know I have a lot of SMRPG tracks in the station already, but I simply could not reject this classic. It has a bouncy, yet dark

Replacing fanfares of trumpets and electronic beeps, the percussion dominates almost the entire song. When the melody breaks in

Thanks to Dark for finally contributing this vastly underrated piece in a vastly underrated game. Okami's music is all beautiful, but
this music stands out as my favorite from the game. This is it, the final boss theme. And yet, it doesn't feel like a boss theme, more
like a reflection on your journey and what you're fighting for: the restoration of the sun. The flute line is mournful, the bass line is
charging, and the Japanese twangs of eloquent instruments is always present. We have a winner right here.

A big thank you to Zeg for PMing me this beforehand! I absolutely love this piece... in typical Tales fashion, it's upbeat, driving, and showcases the best that modern instrumentation has to offer. The synthesizer is out of this world, and the guitar solos just keep coming! I think I even heard a violin in there. Not joking.

Chrono Trigger had excellent music, and this remix lives up to the standards of the original. I don't know how, but I find this song to be deeply moving. Contribution by ~ Dark
If you have been around long enough to see the first TVGMS, you'll know how much I love this song. Super Mario 64 was one
of my favorite games for the Nintendo 64, and this song just had such a bittersweet tone to it. On one end, the tone is extremely
happy because you've beaten the game. You have beat Bowser, saved the Princess, and restored peace to the castle. However, if
you have played this game like I have, you'll understand what emotion this song ellicits. Particularly around 0:55, the song takes a
really sad tone, almost as if it were an underwater theme to some game. This part of the song really shows more of a hopeful
tone, but that does not detract from the extreme sadness I hear in it. And all throughout the song, it is building up to a climax
which is released in the last few seconds of the song, 3:02 and onwards, and it just brings utter sadness to the player that the
game is now over. I still get chills when I hear that song, and I feel that Koji Kondo composed a beautiful Credits theme for a
beautiful game. It was a memorable song from an amazing game, almost rivaling Dire, Dire Docks in terms of that classic impulse.
Wow, who can beat Dark at his VGM reviews? I can tell that this song means a lot to him, and for good reason. SM64 was one
hell of a ride, and to see that ride come to an end is painful. Nintendo scores an ace in the hole with this track, which evokes
happy memories while pulling your heart out of your chest. If you have played this game, you would know how emotive this
composition is. It retains that classic N64 style, a jazzy electric piano and a depressing overtone signifying the end of a long
journey.

I started tearing up at 2:32. D':

Contribution by ~ Cursed Reaction
Possibly only second to the epic "The Sun Rises" from the ÅŒkami soundtrack, it gives me giant shivers every time I listen to it.
The sweet, high flute line is so calming and is aided by the gentle shimmering notes in the backing. 0:00 to 0:25 is so pleasing and
satisfyingly soothing. Then, about 0:28 or 0:29, a musical feature so typical of ÅŒkami - adding a deeper and fuller element to it.
Then, from there on is a nostalgic and smooth flow of euphoric notes with the occasional howl from a wolf and I can't help but
think back to when Ammy did her first victory howl. The melody smoothly transposes every so often into minor, the hint of
sadness un-mistakable in the piece. The classic taiko drums and shamisen that defines Japanese music adds such a powerful
backbone to this piece, it's brilliant. The main difference from this is something in the melody. The element is hard to put your
finger on but it's a little different from the rest of the soundtrack. But it's so unbelievably beautiful, that I can't ignore it, especially
coming from one of the most under-appreciated games of the past few years. On another note, try the ÅŒkami Piano Arrange
version, it really captures the more nostalgic, weepy hints in it.
I deeply thank Cursed Reaction for his deep review, and I agree with every single point he's made. This track moved me like no
other track has ever moved me. It's one of those pieces that not only is beautiful, it makes you think about your life and about
yourself. While listening to this piece, I was filled with sadness, but also immense joy and happiness. This is Okami music at its
finest, and possibly one of the greatest pieces ever composed.

Culex Battle from Super Mario RPG

Let's get some deviation up in here, literally. Upon first hearing this song, if you've ever played SMRPG before,
you'll realize the music is not anything like any of the other themes. Hello, Happy Kingdom or Beware the Forest
Mushrooms sounds nothing like this, it lacks any dramatic impulse, it lacks any sense of urgency or difficulty. Tracks like those
have a happy or mysterious overtone, as do all of the other tracks in the game. This track, however, was most obviously
"borrowed" from a Final Fantasy game that came out, oh I don't know, at about the same time. No matter, this track is still
amazing. I find it interesting that they'd change the style of music just for one track, but seeing how fast-paced the Culex battle
really is, I find that this track suits the boss very well. The first 15 seconds of the song carry all of the emotion with them. I find the
bridge loop (0:34 - 1:04) is probably the worst part of the song considering it just doesn't carry the emotion you get from the rest
of the track. It is still a well-composed piece, and although it takes on a Final Fantasy theme with the composition and
instruments, it still sounds amazing. Culex, you must have banged one of the sound programmers to get this track for yourself.
I completely agree with everything that Dark has said here. The Culex Battle Theme is my favorite track in this game, besides Sad
Song and Forest Maze. Squeenix obviously got lazy composing this track, as it blatantly ripped off Final Fantasy IV's Boss
Theme... but the result is beautiful. This song fits the mood, and drives you to finally vanquish Culex. The synth and heavy bass
never leave your side, and the result is a truly inspiring (though copied) track.
Since I'm here...

Have you ever played Reach? I doubt it. But still, it's an amazing game. It has a ton of epic soundtrack, many of which would be
a fitting contribution to this station. But I feel that the Reach soundtrack is missing something. Something that was ever present in
Halo 3 and most of its predecessors. I like to call it Hold Music (Made up on the spot xD). This is the type of song that will take
a grip on you, keeping you from leaving a game. If I finished a game in Reach, and I go to the menu, I would have no problem
switching to a different game or turing off the console. But with 3, it was a different story. I would back out to the menu with all
intentions of turning it off or switching. But I would find myself unable to do this. I would just sit there, staring at the menu,
absorbed by the music playing in the background. Eventually, I would turn around and play some more. This type of soundtrack
is as important as anything else you could put in a game. It's the type of music that keeps people coming back for more. It's a
beautiful piece, with several heart wrenching piano parts. In fact, I listened to it the other day, and it was enough to make me pop
back in Halo 3. If a song is able to do that...it is as good as you could get with a Hold song.

And, for the record, I did not write this because Dark wrote something long. I just wanted to add it, and I thought I would give a
few thoughts. Unexpected wall of text was unexpected.
I thank Sabotage for the deep review, and the epic track. This title theme is undoubtedly responsible for many Haloite's lack of
sleep. It manages to relax you and keep you hooked in the game for hours. When my friend first showed me this game, I just
wanted to get back to the title screen, where I could listen to this somber track, its somber piano interludes, and its silky violins.
An excellent track, and a benchmark of modern VGM.
Can you listen to it? Can you listen to the emotion played? This music is probably one of the most saddest musics in the game
(and there were many poignant musics in this game). When you first listen to this theme, it starts off at a melancholic note
provided with a flute. The instruments in this composition are ominously played as though the location is associated with many
bad omens. If you also take into account that this is not only Presea's (the member of your group who had the most traumatizing
past) hometown, a place in where discrimination against Half-Elves is intense and that it was destroyed for it's beliefs, it makes
sense at how a theme could emanate so much sadness. This is one theme that really makes emotion run through my head every
time I listen to it.
I can plainly hear the emotion running through this piece and I deeply thank Chill for suggesting this track. The delicacy of this
composition is amazing and really moves your heartstrings in the process. The bassline is riveting, and the melody seems to call
out to you in a sorrowful song.

Contribution by ~ Dark
To be honest, I would have never known about this song without good old Twig, and I fell in love the second I heard it. It seems
kind of typical that I'd review a sad song, but this is one of the few gems in the entire Final Fantasy XIV OST. I am not really sure
where this theme is used (based on the video title, it seems like either a field theme or a cutscene), but this music is suitable for
literally any sad or cutscene situation in any game. One thing that really seperates this track from other sad tunes is definitely the
cymbals. First heard at 0:26, it really shows that this song can be as dramatic as it is sad. You don't really think of tense and
dramatic not going together, but this song exemplifies how something can be extremely dramatic without necessarily being tense.
This song was just beautifully composed, and Nobuo should die before he even thinks about leaving the Final Fantasy franchise.
If you have never been interested in this main-stream, overrated Final Fantasy music, I suggest you listen to this track to divert
you from all the lies surrounding Final Fantasy music. It really is as good as people say, and this is proof enough.

Contribution by ~ Dark
Butter Building is one of the staples of Kirby games, and I was so extremely excited when I heard the last level in Epic Yarn was a
throwback level that included remakes of Green Greens, Gourmet Race, and yes, even Butter Building got some love. This is one
of the most catchy songs of the entire franchise, and when I first heard it played in Nightmare in Dream Land, I was hooked. If
you don't already know, Dark lurv da pianuh, so hearing a piano arrangement of one of my favorite songs from one of my
favorite franchises from my favorite video game company really made me burst with happiness on the inside. This song,
emotionally, is pretty stale, however. It has a happy overtone, but that's really it. The original took a really adventurous theme,
especially considering the situation in the game that it was in. This was kind of laid-back, and while it wasn't terribly-composed, it
feels like it is lacking an integral part of Kirby music. I guess I felt that way with the entirely piano (or almost entirely) soundtrack
of Epic Yarn, but I still stand by my opinion that this is in the top three for the the entire Epic Yarn soundtrack. Butter Building has
always been a great song, and this remake is no exception.
Oh my God, I'm in love with all the throwback Kirby tunes. I agree with Dark completely when he says that it doesn't feel like
typical Kirby music, but at the same time... I can't help but feel cheerful when I listen to this track. This composition embodies the
soul of Epic Yarn: its bright colors, its childish premise... To back the style up with this music, now there's talent. I love it!

Contribution by ~ Mikhail Tal
Piano music always commands a certain depressing edge in video game music. This piece is an absolute archetype, the perfect
example of emotional piano music in video games. But it is deeper than that. This piece isn't sad. It's depressing, morbid, grim and
stark. It really captures the multitude of emotions that run high throughout the end of Wind Waker - the strife of the Hyrule King's
decision, the magnitude of the flood, the horror of being incarcerated under the oceans until the end of time. It is a twisted, dark
piece, one that also happens to be beautiful.
I can't really phrase it as well as Mikhail Tail did, but this piece is heartrending and very beautiful. With all of the fancy
advancements in VGM today, nothing feels as refreshing as a simple piano track with a beautiful melody and a somber presence.
It's pieces like these that move fervid video game players to tears.

Contribution by ~ Mikhail Tal
In terms of melodic content, I can't think of many pieces that beat the simple, perfectly executed beauty of this melody. Go
Ichinose is a genius. This for me is the purest, most perfectly distilled kick of nostalgia I ever get. Every time I listen to this, I am
warped back to my childhood. It's that good. But I don't think that it is just the fact I was a child when I first heard this this that
makes it such a good nostalgic piece. It is a simple piece, yet it's simplicity somehow commands a sort of majesty. It's beautiful. I
think that is probably the only word that can describe this piece and still do it justice. It is masterfully composed and gives me a
shot of joy every time I listen to it, and that's something that little else can do to me. This is reason the Video Game Music Station
exists - to give people a dose of the joy we experienced from our childhoods, right?
...
This song hit me harder than I thought it would. For one thing, I had forgotten about the beautiful, harmonious melody. For
another thing, I forgot how masterful 8-bit composition can be. And one more thing, I clearly underestimated the power of
nostalgia. Gold/Silver are my favorite Pokemon games, and to hear that melody after so many years.

Wow, I'm tearing up. Geez.
Not a childhood memory, but a memory from a month ago. Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games I can remember
playing, and the ending will make you cry manly tears. And also shout in pure anger, but when the dust settles and you come to
terms with what just happened, you can't deny that it was the best way to end a game with such a plot. It isn't until the end that
you realize how much you bonded with the characters, and watching the last cutscene unfold and credits roll to the sound of this
moved me in a way I never thought an Old West setting could.
I occasionally find that I get caught up in nostalgic music... and I lose sight of the marvels of modern VGM. Having played Red
Dead, I know how beautifully moving this track is. We often pay so much attention to the beeps of bloops of the retro age that
we forget about tracks like these staring us in the face. I couldn't help but tear up as this song played. Regardless of lyrics,
regardless of modernity, this is still VGM.

And us listeners should be proud to include it in our genre.

Contribution by ~ Mikhail Tal

I really think it is a testament to the power of nostalgia, however short-lived, that I cried when I heard this yesterday. It warped me back five years ago, before two of my siblings were born, to a family holiday in France. I sat in the car phoning my Dad frantically telling him I had named a Pokemon in my team after him, all while this played breezily in the background. Exquisite. That one moment remains sealed in my memory. The mellow, wise tones of the piece create instant nostalgia for me, and I don't think anything will ever change that. I hope to one day as an old man find my dusty old DS and a dusty old cartridge, play it for the first time in years and be sent right back to the glory of my childhood. Wonderful.

I always really enjoy reading Alfred's reviews of music, and I thank him for suggesting such a classic tune, in my opinion. Contribution by ~ Hiyama Kiyoteru

This song...is quite special. The traditional style, combined with the "flute", guitar, and the wonderful voice, further blended with a strange, yet fitting addition of beat-boxing, gives this song a truly unique feel like no other. It reminds me of my visits to Korea, where I walked among the various temples, villages...and bridges. And all the while the bustling modern city was around me. There is something about this song that makes one wonder; that makes one pause the game and just simply listen to the song. It could be the tranquility of the song, in which the listener is transported back in time to when traditions meant more back then than they do now, or perhaps it could just be the hypnotic and peaceful effect this song has on people as they listen. Whatever the case, this song means many different things to many different people, and I'm sure they'd all agree. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll get lost in the lyrics now. "Ore wa ne kamome ni horeta tasogare oyaji. Aoi umi o nagamete wa naki, aoi minato wa kamome koishikute," which in English would be: "I...am a geezer standing in the dusk, mesmerized by the gulls. Gazing fixedly into the sapphire sea, I bemoan with shed tears, as I yearn for the lovely gulls soaring above the blue harbor." Without a doubt, this song is absolutely beautiful.

I could not agree more with Hiyama's review. I think that this song is simply beautiful in how simplistic it is. I love that the citizens around the bridge add to the song as you socialize with them. I also love that Kiyoteru provided me with lyrics... I feel like they add extra meaning to the song!

Contribution by ~ Mikhail Tal

Generally, my recommendations tend to be tinged with an element of melancholy or nostalgia. Hopefully this will buck the trend a tad. This piece is so inherently happy that it has an almost naive quality to it, one that works really well with the game it is in too. Not only it is a very happy piece, but it is also a simple one, a very hummable one. Kirby's Epic Yarn has a soundtrack that is dominated by piano solos, and I encourage you to look them up.

I love this song, and I thank Alfred for the review. Kirby's Epic Yarn has an overall happy feeling to it, but this piece exemplifies that quality. I love the jazz motif that the piano conveys, and I simply adore the simplistic melody and the overall calmness and innocence of the song. Like Alfred said, this song is very hummable, since the melody is compact and simplistic. Thank you for the find!

A short song, but one of those tear-jerkers you get so attached to. First you think to yourself "Finally. No more GLaDOS! No more Aperture! No more fat-jokes! It's over." Then the turrets start the aria. It's actually a beautiful opera, albeit written in practically broken Italian. The rough lyrics, however, are basically of calling Chell their beautiful girl and saying goodbye. When the elevator finally reaches the top and you leave, you are in tears wishing it wasn't the end. The main reason I love this is cuz its a beautiful surprise ending that in 1 minute and 20 seconds completely changes the usual ambiance of Aperture.

Well, at least imo. XD

This song started off quirky, but I listened on for the goodness that Atman had promised. And suddenly, and beautiful voice rang out... as if this were some new-age opera. Contribution by ~ Mikhail Tal

This is one of those "beautiful" pieces of video game music. I feel that if this had been an ending or epilogue song, if would have got a lot more attention. It's hidden gems like these that the VGMS are supposed to be showcasing, no? When I ran the VGMS, I deliberately added obscure pieces like Ragtime Osohe because they didn't get enough mainstream. This is another case. Anyway, back to the music - the way the piece goes from that single instrument fugue-like chord melody into a more orchestral movement is monumentally beautiful. The choice of chords on part of the composer is truly astounding, rarely do you find a piece as well-composed as this. The lead in the main movement, the oboe/ocarina-sounding instrument, plays a very simple melody, but it is complemented fantastically by the strings in the background. This piece excels both orchestrally and melodically.

I love you so much right now. I felt bad after quitting such a long run of the first TVGMS, but I was confident that Mikhail would pick up my slack. He also had an excellent, albeit short, run, but that also eventually died. I am extremely glad that we have such an apt video game music enthusiast such as yourself now running this, and I have no fears about the lifespan of this thread. I am so glad that I implemented the first TVGMS on YCM, and I wish you the best of luck whilst running this thread. It will be a lot of work, no doubt, but you should handle it with no problems. Think about it, this is fun for you, as it should be for everyone who loves video music. I just cannot perfectly express my joy that you made the third version of this thread, and this will definitely pull me into a bit of activity in the Music subsection. So Opalmoon, get ready to warn me. =P

Now that my long intro is over, why don't I post some songs?

Oh, wait. Shradow stole all of my Pokemon Black and White music that I was going to post, and I hate him so much for that, seriously. Man, I'm supposed to be the Pokemon video game music master of YCM, but you obviously got here first. I will get my revenge, don't you worry. I will get my revenge.

I've never been good at what stations to put songs in, so how about I give you a ton of tracks and hope you do something with 'em? :D

And let's add a bit of DV to this. ;D

Staff Roll from Super Mario 64

If you have been around long enough to see the first TVGMS, you'll know how much I love this song. Super Mario 64 was one of my favorite games for the Nintendo 64, and this song just had such a bittersweet tone to it. On one end, the tone is extremely happy because you've beaten the game. You have beat Bowser, saved the Princess, and restored peace to the castle. However, if you have played this game like I have, you'll understand what emotion this song ellicits. Particularly around 0:55, the song takes a really sad tone, almost as if it were an underwater theme to some game. This part of the song really shows more of a hopeful tone, but that does not detract from the extreme sadness I hear in it. And all throughout the song, it is building up to a climax which is released in the last few seconds of the song, 3:02 and onwards, and it just brings utter sadness to the player that the game is now over. I still get chills when I hear that song, and I feel that Koji Kondo composed a beautiful Credits theme for a beautiful game. It was a memorable song from an amazing game, almost rivaling Dire, Dire Docks in terms of that classic impulse.

I apologize for flooding this place with music all at one time (since even when I was owner, I hated when people did that, because then I had to search their posts for the music), but I hope it doesn't matter as it is on the first page. I just need to get some songs down so others don't steal them, because they are songs that really represent me and I would be simply crushed if someone else stole them. Yeah, I'm talking about you, Shradow.

Shout-out to Dane right now. Love you, man.

Your welcome Clair. I also got some more random musics

[DV]Super Monkey Ball 2: Under the Ocean

No other music can be more fitting to a situation that combines intensity, yet serenity. If you have played Super Monkey Ball 2, you would know the game is pretty challenging, even if you go through 1/4th of the game. It still doesn't negatively affect the quality of the game's music. In fact, it may have actually increased it's quality. Under the Ocean is one of my favorite tracks from the game. It is very fitting to an ocean-themed set of levels and it carries a certain form of ambiance that is beautifully eerie (or eerily beautiful). Whether the the first or the latter is right is debatable, but we all could agree that this music is amazing.
