It warped me back five years ago, before two of my siblings were born, to a family holiday in France. I sat in the car phoning my Dad frantically telling him I had named a Pokemon in my team after him, all while this played breezily in the background. Exquisite. That one moment remains sealed in my memory. The mellow, wise tones of the piece create instant nostalgia for me, and I don't think anything will ever change that. I hope to one day as an old man find my dusty old DS and a dusty old cartridge, play it for the first time in years and be sent right back to the glory of my childhood. Wonderful. This reminds me of my grandparents' house. After eight months of hard training, two holidays overseas and the birth of my sister, I finally got here. At my grandparents' house, I sat in bed one morning having finally come out of Victory Road. I scaled the waterfall and then...this. Such contemplative music. It made me think about everything I'd been through on that journey, the stuff I'd done, the teams I'd beaten. It was a moment of utter calm, of perfect beauty. Some people believe it to be a temple built to house Majora's Mask, or maybe it's just a tower that just so happened to lead to Hell, where Majora's Mask resided. Others combined the Portal to Hell theory and made it more complex. According to this theory, the Kingdom of Ikana was building the Tower, or maybe scaling it, my memory about it is a little hazy, and that they believed that if they built it all the way to the Heavens they could reach a Portal to the Sacred Realm, use the Giant's Mask to kill the Goddesses, and show how the Giants were superior to the Goddesses. When the Goddesses saw what they were doing exactly, the had the Tower flip, causing the Terminians to fall into the bosses lair, believed at the time to house Majora's Mask. From there it goes on to describe how they began to worship the Mask, and that's when Termina took on the name Termina, a land destined to die. It's a well thought out theory, and my favorite about Majora's Mask. And it's not so much as paying homage to them as mocking them. If you look on the blocks that you have to jump across to get to the Temple when the Tower is flipped, you can see the Triforce on the bottom of the block, being licked by the statues tongue. Not exactly paying homage to the Goddesses.If you look at the background before you enter the dungeon when it isn't flipped, you can see some pretty odd structures pointing to the sky, with a statue shaped as a hand with fire on the tip of it as well.
