I adore the soundtracks of Gen I and II, and I love them more than my own family, but I think that is more down to nostalgia and rose-tinted glasses. Though I thought that the Champion themes from Gen I and II were both fantastic, seriously. But yes, I do enjoy some of the Gen III soundtrack, just not as much as the rest. Gen IV is actually quite nostalgic for me as it holds many memories, and the standard of composition was outstanding. There were no themes in Gen IV that were bad. One or two boring ones, but some of them were majestic. Cyrus Battle, Galactic Admin Battle, Elite Four Battle, Route 209, Eterna Forest, Eterna City, Spear Pillar, Canalave City - all are fantastic, fantastic tracks. And those are just the ones I remember the names of. I can hum every tune in that game.

GARY MOTHERF*CKING OAK from Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow

I cannot explain the moment of intense fear this music induced in me as a child when I played it. Red & Blue were surprisingly dark games, if you think about, and this music doesn't f*ck around. It mercilessly bombards you with tension and fear.

"Hey mum I love the soundtracks of Pokémon I and II more herpderp =D"

But seriously it was a pretty dark game era.>.< (At least I'm thinking about the feelings the graphics put over, not so much the storyline.) Because of the graphics, it all looked much dangerous, especially the caves.@_@ It's not like you had detailed, coloured figures with realistic gestures and cutesy Pokémanz jumping around, but literally just...well just the game, with less possibilities to do stuff and you had to deal with what you have (sorry if that sounds confusing).
Did you ever get scared when you tried something out with Missingno? I did because I was freaking scared that something could go horribly wrong with the game and just seeing the disordened pixels already pulled chills down my back.=D But it was mostly that cave on the islands near Cinnabar that scared me. I had dreams about being in that cave >.<, with all the currents and darkness, I think it's pretty much the only one where there's really no one around and I rarely got out of it without using the escape rope.

I'm not a HUGE fan of Pokémon music, I still prefer Touhou, but it's good stuff. I like it because it never seemed out-of-place or annoying, just going with the games and in the end when you look back, you have a lot of memories.

I really loved the nugget bridge theme >.< http://youtu.be/_lSVEHm8cxU
It doesn't have a big impact the first time you walk through, but try going back after you beat the elite 4 and it sounds different and memorial-ish...at least for me.

Oh and yeah, I don't know if this can be suggested or not, but it's the only suggestion I have for now besides a bunch of Touhou music.

Tell me you aren't serious????

Gold and Silver was an actual bigger adventure than Red and Blue! You had a rival who was a thief, you investigate buildings with a criminal organization ready to gang-bang you, teetering towers and explore even more remote caves than the last game. I really don't get how that is even calm when G/S's primary focus was to introduce to you a grand adventure, not a calming one.

Also, I am saying that the music that plays in Olivine City is complicated in comparison to the towns it played in. There are too many instruments played for a town with the 1st Gym and a port town. It needs to be a bit more.......robust to actually fit them both. This is just my opinion anyways Dark. You can consider it to be flawed, but I have listened to enough of the music to make my own judgment on the soundtrack.
I know this is rehashing a long-dead argument, but I would still like to reply.

First, Olivine doesn't have the 1st Gym, it has the 6th Gym. That already breaks the logic that the town is too simplistic for such a song. Second, you still have not explained why a "simple" city or town needs to have "simple" music. Lavender Town was simple, right? Look at how deep and emotional its music was. Also, you haven't properly defined what makes a city simple and what makes it complex. Is Sootopolis complex? It has a very simplistic theme to it. Also, you are associating complexity with amount of instruments, which doesn't make any sense. I know you have a right to your opinion, but why are you trying to back up your opinion with flawed logic?

More on topic, I'd like to request a few things...

I apologize for not being able to do any Different Voices today, but I hope to get some requested during my spring break this week.

I'm not even going to continue Dark. It's how I feel about the music and that's the end of that conversation.

I got some Rabbids ost you probably never heard:

Love Theme from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

I have always disliked the Xbox 360 and PS3. I do not own either and do not wish to. But this is just...majestic. Metal Gear is probably one of the only franchises that is now based on the HD consoles I respect. It is just...beautiful. The Gaelic ballad that comes in about two minutes in is profoundly distressing and the violin intro is fantastic, just fantastic. I honestly can't say much else about this piece other than that it commands such emotion, such power. Modern VGM has never been a strong point of mine, but sometimes this piece can make me consider.

Farewell Hyrule King from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

Piano music always commands a certain depressing edge in video game music. This piece is an absolute archetype, the perfect example of emotional piano music in video games. But it is deeper than that. This piece isn't sad. It's depressing, morbid, grim and stark. It really captures the multitude of emotions that run high throughout the end of Wind Waker - the strife of the Hyrule King's decision, the magnitude of the flood, the horror of being incarcerated under the oceans until the end of time. It is a twisted, dark piece, one that also happens to be beautiful.
