Reaper on the Nightmare

Drain it.

Equip with Clear Water.

Destroy Skill Drain.

Problem? Let me explain. By using Skill Drain, you do not target RotN while negating his effect that would destroy it should it be targeted by an effect. By doing that, equipping RotN with Heart of Clear Water while it's effect is negated will obviously not kill it. Finally, using a card like MST to destroy Skill Drain will re-activate the effect of RotN. Now with just 4 cards, you have made a laughable card into a jawdropper. This could also be done with Instant Fusion to bypass the destruction effect at the End Phase.

As I have already said, you could also do:

Instant Fusion into RotN -> Skill Drain and drop 1000LP -> Equip with CW -> Destroy SD for lulz

That exact combo was what I responded to. You responded to my response with what I responded to. Repeating the same point changes nothing.

You used 4 cards to do absolutely nothing except destroy your own Reaper of the Nightmare faster in such a complicated way.
...The monster equipped with this card is not destroyed as a result of battle or by the effect of a card that targets the monster.
Once Skill Drain is destroyed, your opponent can then target your Reaper on the Nightmare and destroy it with its own effect by simply targeting it with a card effect. The Continuous Effect of Reaper on the Nightmare that destroys itself does not target itself, so Heart of Clear Water cannot protect it from its own self-destruction effect.

Also, Heart of Clear Water would not protect Reaper on the Nightmare from Instant Fusion's destruction effect as it also does not target Reaper on the Nightmare. That effect is already applied onto "Reaper on the Nightmare" when you Special Summoned it with Instant Fusion. Stuff like removing the monster from play or flipping it face-down would save it from this destruction, but not equipping it with Heart of Clear Water.

Since Reaper on the Nightmare already cannot be destroyed by battle, there is absolutely no advantage to equipping Reaper on the Nightmare with Heart of Clear Water.

Remember, it is not the card that targets Spirit Reaper/Reaper on the Nightmare that's destroying it, it is its own Continuous Effect that is doing the destruction.

No, it's only targeted when you activate Clear Water and select Reaper as your target. The combo's still terrible though in that it involves 4 cards and doesn't win the game.

I guess one last thing to mention that would make EVERYTHING I just said pointless that I should've realized much sooner since noticing this comment: Note that Spirit Reaper/Reaper on the Nightmare's destruction effect is ruled to be Continuous, not a Trigger effect. Also, Equip Spells Cards not only target a monster when they are activated, they CONTINUOUSLY TARGET them so long as they are face-up on the field. Since they are both Continuous Effects, Once Skill Drain is removed, Spirit Reaper/Reaper on the Nightmare will be destroyed by their own effect because they are being targeted by an Equip Spell Card that's equipped to them.

Is it me, or are people thinking they can revive this after they Insta-Fusion'd it?
You can. Instant Fusion's Special Summon is considered a Fusion Summon (as printed on the card). Since the Fusion Monster was considered successfully Fusion Summoned to the field, it can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard when it is sent there.
