Well, the day has come. YCM is officially better than GameFAQs.

The object of a card game should first and foremost be making it as fun as possible (unless you're lolnami, in which you're focused on making as much money as possible and since your target audience isn't mature enough to know the difference you don't have to focus on fun).

I agree with you on this, but not on Monster Reborn. You might want to realize that duels end on the second to third turn depending on the Deck. Monster Reborn doesn't have much of the impact it used to have.

Thats why they make new mechanics left to right, and promote all the cards used in the same Structure decks.

The ZeXal deck is like 10$ and has just about every card used by Yuma in it.
(...more or less)

Premature Burial is ridiculously easy to search, and reuse, and it doesn't have the "if this card is removed from the field, destroy the monster" bit. Therefore, it's far too reusable and 800 Life Points is not significant enough as a drawback.

Monster Reborn is (basically) a costless revival that as you said, promotes luck. I don't think it deserves to be at 1; 0 makes much more sense. If the only limited revival card was Call of the Haunted (which is the most balanced of the three in that you have to Set it first, so it's the most easy to remove from the field), you'd at least have a generic revival that required some strategy/skill to play around.

Reborn promotes bad plays, because if you make a mistake, it's simple to just drop it and bring your monster (or an opponent's back). It's free revival that relies too much on luck and less on strategy. Whereas Call of the Haunted is more susceptible to negation; you can't even use something like Black Horn of Heaven on a monster brought back with Reborn, whereas there's a greater amount of negation/removal for CotH, if one of the three had to be legal.

Well, in my opinion, Monster Reborn is a good lucksack. It doesn't really give that major advantage like Pot of Greed, but allows a losing played to somehow get back into the game

Why should a player who's playing poorly be allowed to "get back into the game"? Shouldn't you worry more about punishing bad players and rewarding good ones?

No, that wouldn't work because it would discourage potential "targets" for lolnami.

And then Konami prints:
Solemn Pot of Greed -Counter Trap-
Activate only if your Life Points are lower then your Opponent's, and have at least 1 "Solemn" Counter Trap in your Graveyard. Draw cards from your deck equal to the number of "Solemn" Counter Trap cards in your Graveyard.
lol luck. luck in doing what exactly? drawing: REBORN TENGU, LONEFIRE BLOSSOM, GIANT TRUNADE, SOLEMN JUDGMENT, 2 SOLEMN WARNING. you mean that kind of luck? f***ing pansy <__<

also, Premature Burial is a +1, and every card in your hand this format either takes out a giant beat stick or is a giant beatstick. It's just a lot easier to see Monster Reborn as broken because it's simplistic.

Bang. There it is. Monster Reborn is a +0, Premature Burial is a +1. Their effects are basically equally powerful - ignoring Burial's negligible cost - but Premature Burial can easily be recycled again and again. And there's the searchability that has already been mentioned.

The simple justification for Monster Reborn is that it doesn't have a huge effect on the game. If you're gambling on using Reborn on a beater in the grave, you're probably going to lose anyway. If you're using Reborn on Junk Synchron and then summon Doppelwarrior, you're getting somewhere. In such a case, Reborn could be replaced by a number of marginally less useful cards, such as CotH, Synchron Explorer, or even Salvage Warrior.

I thought of something:

Control DNA Surgery -> WATER
Your field has Cannon Soldier.
Revive Plaguespreader
Plague + Cannon = Dewloren.
Premature on Cannon Soldier.
GG.

Of course, this is pretty much a crappy version of the Dewloren OTK that used Mass Driver, but that's beside the point.
