Number 69: God Medallion - Coat of Arms

Recommended Posts

Okay, so the more TCG correct name is probably Heraldry God - Coat of Arms, until we see how they censor the "god" part, but I dont care. God Medallion - Coat of Arms is badass sounding.

Now for the actual card: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Number_69%3A_Heraldry_God_-_Coat_of_Arms

Rank 4 Xyz
LIGHT
Psychic/Xyz/Effect

ATK: 2600
DEF: 1400

3 Level 4 monsters

When this card is Special Summoned: Negate the effects of all other Xyz Monsters on the field. During your Main Phase: You can target 1 other Xyz Monster on the field; until the End Phase, this card gains the same name and effects as that target. You can only use this effect of "Number 69: Heraldry God - Coat of Arms" once per turn.

Few things to note: First off, why on earth is this thing a LIGHT? It's probably one of the most "evil" Numbers seen to date.

And of course, the anime version was broken, so no surprise it got nerfed. Rather than negating all Monster Effects constantly and stealing them (a ruling nightmare for the latter), it only negates Xyz Monsters when it's Summoned, and it affects ALL other Xyz Monsters, including yours.

It can target 1 Xyz Monster per turn and gain its name and Effects for the turn, and the ability to copy effects only works once per turn. The nice part about this is it can copy YOUR Xyz Monsters' effects, too.

The biggest issue with Coat of Arms, in my opinion, is that its effect was watered down really badly, to the point where it's lacking greatly when compared to other 3 Material Rank 4s, like Disigma, Shock Master, Ouroboros, or Shark Drake, all which have ways to compensate for that extra effort.

That said, it's a hilarious card in a Rank 4 spam deck, since its ability to copy your own Xyz Monsters lets you use the effects of cards like Emeral or Ouroboros twice per turn.

Okay, that's most of what I've got for it.

Discuss Coat of Arms.

Hey guys, I just bought this new coat and...
...
owait...

Basically the fact it can double as another one of your Xyz monsters, or in best case scenario, something amazing on the Opponent's side, is the sole reason why this card has amazing potential.
ALTHOUGH... people tend to look the other way just cuz' this card requires 3 materials, which is rather silly.

The same thing can be said for OOPArts Atlanthal, that's a LIGHT and also an evil Number.

Yeah, I agree, whilst it has the potential to be good the materials can be a turn off.

Atlanthal wasn't really evil. It was powerful, but any malice in that duel was due to that Trap card Tron gave III, plus the boost to III's crest.

Coat of Arms, on the other hand, is a monster that required Tron to deliberately provoke people to incredible rage and hurt people in order to give him the ability to control it. While true that Attribute isnt a factor in good/evil, you wouldn't guess by a glance that it's a LIGHT. Then again, it looks like a Fiend, but is actually a Psychic.

What Decks can use Coat of Arms the best? I'm using a Gogogo Deck that Armz showed me a few days ago and I tweaked, but what else can efficiently use it?

While Atlanthal wasn't necessarily evil, it was still considered to be a dangerous card as it would put physical and mentsl strain on its user.

But he's looking at the relation of good and evil. ALL the numbers are dangerous if people get ahold of them. Remember what happened to Shark with Leviathan Dragon?

The only difference between Atlanthal and any other Number is that Atlanthal was explicitly said to be a more powerful Number than Machu Mech. Tron later explained to Yuma that III, IV, and V's crests were bound to the Numbers, and losing a Duel after wielding a powerful Number drained the soul. Atlanthal, Dyson Sphere, and Destiny Leo evidently all qualified, since they lost their crests' powers only after losing a Duel after playing them (III and IV clearly could wield Number 33, 15, and 40 with no ill consequences if they lost).

But Coat of Arms explicitly required drawing upon anger to control. No other Number ever specifically required something like that to wield. The other "evil" Number is 96, since it's so focused on destruction and has a more independant conscious self than other Numbers.

Wind-Ups are the only deck it isn't that bad in. The only viable perk to this card is to reuse Zenmaity

I remember what happened to Shark and Leviathan, but the fact that Atlanthal almost killed Yuma and III (Whilst Angolmois was active) is making me think I dug myself into a hole which I can't get out of, damnit.
That said, Atlanthal can fall into the crazy/unstable Numbers dept, with 96 and 69 being the truly evil Numbers. (Though 69 can be considered unstable too, due to it changing forms)

I find it amusing how the Numbers are said to be evil, yet we've only had 2 Numbers that are actually evil compared to 5 that are good.

OT- It got the Winged Dragon of Ra treatment. I'm sure there is a use somewhere, I just don't know where Shock Ruler and Ourborous are just so much better. Then you have Disigma, Shark Drake, Thunderspark Dragon.....

I dunno about that. Winged Dragon of Ra turned an absurdly powerful card into absolute garbage by removing all of its good effects and limiting how you can even Summon it, whereas Coat of Arms was just nerfed badly.

I think Coat of Arms should have negated all monsters when Summoned, not just Xyz (if not having a Skill Drain effect). Only being able to copy Xyz effects isnt bad, although I am a little sad by the fact Number 8 does almost the exact same thing.
