Obligatory [Dark Magician of Chaos] topic for banlist season

So, it's banlist season once again. Of course, with all the hype up on Spellbooks, this may very well see the light of play in the coming format. Sure, it would be absolutely terrible for the game, though honestly... Would any of us really be surprised to find this @1 come March?

Anyways, discuss.

If I had a nickel for every time someone said that DMoC would come back during the past ~2-3 formats I'd probably have enough money to purchase Konami itself

I highly doubt it's coming back unless Konami re-bans BLS

Why would anyone genuinely believe this card would come back? Not even counting the Spellbook hype, the card is obviously broken. Spell Retrieval is a very powerful effect, and it gets that effect if it's Normal or Special Summoned, with the only drawback being that it gets banished when it leaves the Field.

What people need to remember is that Overlaying DMoC won't get it banished, and after retrieving a powerful Spell, there will be a ton of potential for abuse. Monster Reborn would absolutely have to get banned.

And as I sometimes forget, monsters that DMoC kills get banished, and there are plenty of cards capable of grabbing DMoC even from the banished zone. Sure, it got hit when Mass Driver and Dimension Fusion were a thing, but the game has given Spells even more power, so that retrieving them for free is broken. This is why I'm also skeptical when people believe Magician of Faith will return. While not as overpowered as DMoC, due to stats and Flip Effect speed, Spell retrieval for nothing is very, very good.

Konami hasn't made the greatest choices in banlists to some people's opinion, but they've made plenty of excellent choices too. BLS coming back made sense due to the OCG removing priority. That would been the ideal time to test it: When a mechanic changes that will reduce how absurdly powerful its banish effect is.

Why it hasn't returned to the list yet...I'm not sure. But they also hit Inzektors with Hornet and Dragonfly, and hit Zenmaity. I haven't heard quite as much about how absurdly good Inzektors and Wind-Ups are (although Wind-Up Magician is still an issue), so they aren't totally off-base.

Returning DMoC for any reason would be dumb, and as dumb as people say Konami are, I doubt it'll ever happen.

Agreed.  If it were to have come back even back for one format, it should have been back when they unbanned BLS. This thing can never return. Dark Hole, Monster Reborn, PoA, Heavy Storm, ect don't help this card either. With Prophesy decks existing, this thing can't exist.

Okay, so some people would be surprised to see it come off the list next format.

And, you know, it's not as if I'm saying it should come back, nor am I saying that I want/expect it back. I'm merely saying that I wouldn't be surprised if Konami brought it back.

you should be surprised because that would be an abysmally awful move no matter what standards you judge konami by.
