Would Ritual's have been better if they were Extra Deck Monsters?

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, but I'll go ahead and do it.

Do you guys think that Ritual Monsters would have been more usable and generally playable if they were stored in the Extra Deck (which would probably be the name from the star)? Or would they have been just Fusion Monsters without the restrictions? Fusion Monsters name specific monsters and would need the same thing as Rituals would in that case (2+ rather than 1+ tributes, and an appropriate card to bring it out). Although I imagine if they were stored in the same place the early game would give them diffrent characteristics to make them more distinct from each other (like Fusion's have power, while Rituals have effects).

Thoughts?

Of course they would be more playable; it's obvious. By putting them in the Extra Deck (and changing the game mechanics so that you can just RS them from the ED instead of the hand), you cut out the part where you need to actually get the Ritual Monster, or if you already have it, that one card could be something else. You don't need to draw Flame Swordsman to use Instant Fusion on him.

Aqua Mirror Illusion is useless, and so is Gishki Vision. Senju as well.

They would be a bad deck if in the extra deck *shot*

They would really be Fusions in essence, except with Recycling the monsters. Fusions don't do that too often, and they have specific Summoning Requirements. I feel Rituals are fine in the main deck. Also, the effects USUALLY compensate for Summoning requirements.

Somehow, this is often the first path to take for people that want to rework Rituals. If I had a dollar for each time I've seen a "ITT Rituals = Extra Deck" topic....

I don't personally like that idea.

Fusions started with a specific catalyst (Polymerization) and specific materials, and then evolved into a bigger variety of catalysts and keeping it's materials.

Rituals with the current cardpool would mostly be specific catalyst and variable materials (the exact opposite).

Fusions have been evolving slowly but surely into having also variable materials (Omni-HERO, Blaze Fenix, the "x2 Zombies" one, and that new Level 5 Machine one). Which turns them into a strictly superior version of Rituals EVEN with the update.

This would inevitably make Rituals evolve to stay relevant, and odds are they'd evolve into having a more variable variety of catalysts (Ritual Spells), which by now you can sort of see how the both mechanics are getting more and more similar to each other?

I'm all for making old support obsolete if it's just a few cards and if it means it'll be for a greater good, but this idea seems somewhat unnecessary.

Leave them in the Main Deck and just try to get creative when working around it.

The concept of Ghishikis was good, but they made them loop and and be all about card advantage.... Though, the idea IS there.
