I would have liked to see the IRL version give you that boost before the actual damage, sort of like Nutrient Z works. When it was first released, I also remember thinking it would have been viable if it had the Scrap-Iron Scarecrow clause of returning face-down after use, even if it cured lower amounts like 1/2 of the original, or asked for a discard in exchange, or something like that.
