Number 52: Diamond Crab King

300px-Number52DiamondCrabKing-YZ06-JP-UR

2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; this card's DEF becomes 0, also this card's ATK becomes 3000. These changes last until the end of this turn. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase. If this card is attacked while it has no Xyz Materials, change it to Attack Position at the end of the Damage Step. You can only control 1 "Number 52: Diamond Crab King".

And sometimes, you just need the sheer power to punch something in the face. Generic 2-mat Rank 4s tend to have a cap of 2500 (barring Gemknight Pearl with 2600) ATK, which makes it slightly difficult in trumping certain boss monsters in a straight battle.

Crazy Box.

You know, ITs half decent, with a pseudo Shield and Sword.. but that switch to attack thing when it has no materials... it just kills it.

So what would you propose that its drawback was supposed to be?  Or was it not even supposed to have a drawback?

If you're using Crab King, you account for that happening if you can't win with him.

I love how people assume this card has a drawback.

So basically, you hit hard and then go into DEF for safety. No Drawback.
Attacked without Materials? You opponent has to take damage or beat this thing (maybe even tie it).
The only defect I see in the guard is that you have to activate the effect.
No drawbacks, only tactics and you deciding how to do it.
Add to it that the monster goes into DEF as the stats go back to normal.
I really like the concept of the card.

AKA a drawback. Veiler, Chain, Breakthrough, etc. all mess up this card and leaves your opponent with the opportunity to essentially make a direct attack to wipe this out and hurt like crazy.

OT: It looks fun for being a 3k "smash stuff" monster, and lets R4s further take out 3k threats such as BLS (also read: #101), and if not nullified somehow, gives the user a lot of control over the battlefield for the while it lives. But, effect negation, as I said, essentially is extra card removal against this since they'll leave this as a squishy 0 ATK monster that can get ran over by about anything else.

Just going to put it out there that it's not generic in where you should use it.

Boxers don't have a reason for it, unless some format demands a 3K beater, whereas something like Gogogo can really benefit from the addition due to the not as tight extra. It's a guaranteed detach each turn, which is nice. and 3K ass is nice, too.

Yeah it's not like Battling Boxers run 3 3800 Beaters. Nope. Not at all.

=P

This is a slight exaggeration.

Anywho, I agree. This isn't a willy nilly Xyz and actually might be ignored due to its mediocracy. It is good, but other cards accomplish more.

Initial translations made it seem like the last effect triggered at attack declaration, not applied after damage calc. I wasn't aware they'd changed it.

Honestly, I don't use it in Gogogo because they can already churn out the 3-mats like no tomorrow.

But that's... really wasteful when only Ouroboros, Masquerade, and soon Deltella are worth the space in the deck.

Hell, the former of the 2 aren't even worth the space as much as they used to be, and I only main Masquerade because if you need to make it it will win you the game.

And leaving a spare Gogogo Golem on the field isn't bad. Again, it's a decent defensive unit that can allow further plays in the following turn(s).

Just... 3 mats aren't worth it when the best one is banned and the others are decent at best. Deltella is the exception.

I'd rather run a versatile 2 Mat than Ouroboros.

Rank 4 toolbox for Gogogo, including 2-Material monsters like ARK, Ragna and Abyss Dweller for their utility, is already overstuffed. Unless I'm playing Gogogo wrong and you're supposed to run 3 Ouroboros.

Why would you play even 1 Ouroboros? That card's not worth it.

It's not overstuffed at all, honestly, and there's 2-3 room for tech spaces to toolbox with.
