It is the Daily Mail so it is to be expected, but this is just ludicrous. The headline suggests that there is a definite link between listening to "death metal" and suicide. For starters, they need to do their research into what death metal is, since Black Veil Brides and Avenged Sevenfold are both extremely far away from it. Then, they need to realize that the music had NOTHING to do with this person's tragic suicide. Reading the article, it is pretty obvious that the guy had work stress and personal/relationship issues going on. Did the Daily Mail not think THAT might have had something to do with Oliver taking his life? The only reason is the headline grabbing... This is a prime example of the twisted media we have in our society. They bombard us with propaganda, fill people with prejudice and cause social dystopia, discrimination and segregation. Its ironic really because these social problems are what has caused a close friend of mine to self harm, consider suicide and end up on antidepressants. People look for something to blame for it, and music/video games are usually the easy target for reporters. How many people, or even specifically young people, commit suicide each year? *quick research* Around 6,000-7,000 in the UK each year, apparently. Sorry couldn't find an exact figure for 15-20 year olds. But I somehow doubt they all listen to the same kind of music. No-one ever blames Leona Lewis for this sort of thing (and Bleeding Love is the most depressing thing I'd ever heard and would be more likely to make me jump than anything by, say Judas Priest). All kidding aside, each case is different. This kid was thinking about it for a while, and yeah. Tragic loss, unfortunate, but there are other factors. The article listed the kid had other issues going on in his life and didn't open up about them to anyone, much the same as most teenagers, but the music is just the headline grabber to give the Daily Mail's traditional reader their five minutes of indignant moral outrage. It's like Fox News blaming violence in kids solely on video games. There's no link there. None at all. There have actually been scientific studies proving the opposite. Like the really creepy one with Pinkie Pie known as Cupcakes I believe. People will always blame the media instead of society itself for people going to that level of low. Going through an experience of getting that low myself, it was not the media that made me feel that way. It's like a scapegoat for the media to blame other media. As someone else who is prone to stages like this, I know that the media isn't directly responsible for it. However it does create stereotypes that segregate certain groups of people which does lead to isolation and that doesn't help. People don't talk to me and think I'm strange for wearing black clothes and listening to metal etc. If these things weren't negatively portrayed in the media, it wouldn't be as bad. There are stories of suicide and murder all the time, but it only seems to be when the culprit/victim listens to rock/metal music that they bring up their music taste. cr47t Posted May 10, 2014 Report Share Posted May 10, 2014 I can kinda understand why some people dislike metal music and Im not a fan either, but this is just ridiculous, considering that when you compare this and LTS, it`s pretty much the same thing, only this story is on not as big a scale as the LTS story, but LTS is stupid and fake, and this is stupid and fake, but then again its the Daily Mail so its what they usually do (from what I can tell from the other posts, I don't actually read daily mail articles).
