I always despised Teachers with this kind of attitude. It is like they are saying "Since we have no say in how your own body decides to function, we will make a profit of your guys bladder control, irregardless if you guys end up pissing yourself and being both traumatized and humiliated."

So the kids in questions have two choices: 1. Pay the teacher to run to the bathroom OR 2. Hold it until the end of class and possibly risk wetting their pants / making the room smell of urine.

 

The teacher who thought of this idea is an idiot; simple as that.

While yes, it's fake money and not actually real money that parents give their kids (for the purposes of teaching them how to budget), making a child pay money for basic body needs (going to the bathroom) is plain idiocy.

 

Said kids here are 8-9 years old; they don't have the bladder capacity like what most teenagers/adults have, so of course, they'll need to go frequently. This is quoted from one of the comments in original source. That being said, some kids do use the bathroom breaks as an excuse to cut class, but others really have to go.

I remember working in a primary school (well volunteering), children need to go the toilet alot. Not their fault though.

This is just silliness, people need to remember holding yourself, can be very bad for you and going to the toilet should never be a paid for thing for children.

 

I know some public toilets do charge (In the UK they're rare, Belgium seem more common), but sometimes that goes towards cleaning, and there are often free toilets nearby.

I went to a Primary school with a much similar attitude towards going to the toilet during class. You were pretty much NEVER allowed. I don't understand why. Children have no control over their bladder. I actually very rarely drank anything at Primary school in case I started to need the toilet in class and risk the inevitable happening. If kids ask to go to the toilet in class, let them, simple as. Unless they are obviously just doing it to get out of class.

 

Also, I remember RyanAir charging their passengers to use the facilities, but it was deemed a breech of human rights as they don't have any other choice than to pay, since they are on an aeroplane. Similar situation here, since you can't leave your school to go to the toilet. Not real money, but same principle.
