I feel like it's worth doing this thread in a more free manner from now on. Doing it in batches tends to mean devoting a good hour or so of my time listening to (admittedly incredibly cool) music and talking about it. Great fun, but exhausting.

I'll do it on the fly now. If I see a recent post, I'll listen to it and reply to it as soon as I say it even if no-one else has posted (or I might do some fancy post merging). On that note, I'll cover a few that popped out to me!

Cheers Rai.

It's interesting, isn't it? Was there particular method to writing it, or just fairly free-form? I agree with you that it's a bit of a tough one. The extremely lo-fi guitar is a nice touch, added to the bits of brass here and there. Texturally, it's really interesting and dense, without feeling cluttered. Complex, and quirky, but not cluttered. It perhaps loses a bit of momentum in the middle where it's just the synth/percussion/strings going on, but not too badly anyway. The mixed modality and general proto-jazz harmony going on is cool too. No clue whether it was intentional or not, but it's happened anyway. Obviously, you've borrowed quite well from jazz, and the harmony does reflect that.

Giving you this because the music's cool and I think you'll find the video itself pretty entertaining.

That was adorable. There's not much to it outside of being a really decent electropop song with videogame influence. Seems ready-made for jingles, adverts and viral campaigning, which happily synchs up with the chorus. Reminds me of a lot of mid-00s pop, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, things like that. They had a penchant for pop like this, delving into disco, sort of channeling ABBA (to a minor extent). Obviously, it's having somewhat of a revival with Daft Punk and Giorgio Moroder and peeps like that.

Ah, fudge it.

Who knew German could be so lyrical? I'll have to admit that when I visited Germany, I wasn't a huge fan of the language. It's quite a plosive one linguistically so doesn't lend itself well to certain styles of music. It does give a good sense of pomp and presence though. You'd have to tell me what the song meant, but it's a great ballad. Much more freeform and lyrical melody than most modern pop or soft rock ballads these days, it might have to do with German tradition (after all, Romantic song is a German tradition). Really, very, very classic ballad writing. Lots of tense, long chord progressions and grandiose string parts.
