I'll get to the other stuff, but in the meantime, here's why Single Ladies is a cool song, yo.
Beyoncé has successfully brought out some of the most effortless pop and R&B singles throughout her entire career. But few moments rank with Single Ladies. By far one of the most bombastic songs she did at the point, and still is even after bringing out an album about marital sex in incredibly close detail and modern feminism.

The song does almost seem unassuming, perhaps a standard dance track, but it's manages to be both one of the catchiest songs of the past decade, and also one of the most intelligent pop songs. The structure of the song: fairly standard verses, but the song ditches the standard pre-chorus in favour of another chorus, the two choruses form the backbone of the song's catchiness, the first being the "If you liked it…" on repeat, the second being the hilariously catchy 'oh oh oh's accompanied by the silly hand movement. Arguably, the refrain (seen at the very beginning of the song) is a hook or chorus in itself. Only the bridge, more melodic and melodramatic than the rest of the song, takes the song away from its high-tempo hip-hop pace: indeed, I wouldn't mind that just being cut out of the song, that's how good the rest of it is.

The song is ridiculously fast for a pop song. About 90 or so beats per minute, but the clap on every quaver makes it feel like double that, into 180, normally reserved for breakbeat or drum 'n' bass. The song strays from normal pop territory in general, with the verses having absolutely no melodic instruments in it whatsoever except Beyoncé's voice: except for an odd alarm-like squeak contrasting the singsong melody with this out-of-tune harshness. The melody's worth talking about briefly: it's hilariously simple, and also incredibly 'cute'. Sticks to four or five notes mostly, and asserts an incredibly major, grounded feel to the song (obviously only to be totally thrown out of the window by the production and bassline). In general, Beyoncé's brand pop differs gigantically from the likes of other large stars: Lady Gaga sticks to the minor key almost exclusively to promote her seductive and weird image, for instance.

The choruses take this in a different direction, by introducing a huge bass note underneath the chorus, turning the E major melody into a dark chromatic jam: the chords it produces are a bit odd, and have closest resemblance with the so-called 'spy chord' (the cheesy one found in all James Bond films, ending Muse's Supremacy, and beginning Adele's Skyfall), a minor chord with a major ninth, although in Single Ladies, several of the notes are missing. In general, the song totally forgoes the traditional 4-chord pop structure, including in the bridge using diminished chords to great effect.
I don't think I've posted hip hop & rap before, have I?

Australian group called Hilltop Hoods. Sound very nineties to me. Reminded me of House of Payne a little bit when I first heard them.

When it comes to rap, it generally needs a good beat, flow and music to catch my attention, rather than good lyrics.

I especially like the opening to this song.

ooh, ooh, i'll recommend some stuff

Aesop Rock. Very unique lyrically, but he has really nice beat. I recommend starting with the None Shall Pass album.

RA the Rugged Man. He features on the track I sent, his verse is about 2 minutes long and is critically acclaimed as one of the greatest verses of the decade. I recommend listening to his most recent release, Legends Never Die. The verse starts at about 1:30.

Alright, I'm gonna level with you. Gambino's sound is strange at first, but the longer you listen to him you start appreciating his work much more. One of my favorites, mostly because of his most recent release Because The Internet.

A recommendation people who're into rap would find controversial, Hoodie Allen is a personal guilty pleasure. While I don't dig a lot of his new stuff (well, excluding the diss tracks and newest song which were pretty well produced) I really like a lot of his older stuff, very chill stuff. I recommend Making Waves, one of his earliest mixtapes.

I'm not gonna link you to any WuTang, but I think a lot of their hooks on stuff like Enter the Wu-Tang are easy to digest.

Again, kinda controversial, considering this another 'frat rapper' but I really like the production on some of his stuff (his music videos are absolutely top notch). These Things Happen is my pick for a starting release of his.

I really don't dig a lot of this guy's stuff, but I can definitely listen to what I think was his first album (?), Attention Deficit.

get some old stuff and other stuff and that's my main rap rotation haha, these couple albums

Olaf's Theme - Advanced Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

A quick 1:03 or so theme from a turned-based grid-based Strategy game. Probably my favorite track from the game.

Warning: GBA-level audio.

You sir have great taste in games.  I'm actually planning on doing a guitar/metal arrangement of this once I get set up for recording.  Great track.
