Marmiting Captain

Recommended Posts

I could MAYBE see it being used in a Monster Mash Deck that uses Gallis or something, but other than that, it relies on WAY too much to be more than "okay".

You need to Normal Summon it.

You need another card in hand already.

You put a card back into the Deck, and draw a card.

And then if that drawn card is a monster, you can SS it. That can lead to cool stuff, but the fact remains it's completely reliant on the card you drew, leaving its effect almost entirely up to chance.

The biggest issue this card has is that you need to shuffle your deck before you proceed, and that means you don't have a way to make this viable in a consistent way other than running like 80% monsters, and even then.

It would have been cooler in the following 2 ways:

-If it just revealed/excavated the top card when Normal Summoned, and either Special Summon a monster excavated or returning the card to the top or bottom. That'd give it an edge as a potential +1 or at least something that'd prevent a dead draw next turn, which at the very least casual decks can appreciate.

-If it returned the card to the bottom and THEN let you draw from the top. That wouldn't be a plus but you'd at worst refresh your hand and at best give you a controllable way to Special Summon something via effects that stack (Plague, Lavalval, Edge-Imp Scissors, etc).

At least it is nice that it doesn't have a Level cap for what it can Summon either way.... Marauding Captain is still better so this isn't even adjusting it for the age.

The card could be salt-inducing as a self made -1 as is.

So you summon a monster with worthless stats, just to trade one card from your hand to get a possible summon ?

Seems totally worth it, I mean who would not want to trade 2 cards for one joke of a monster and a potential summon (which would at least shuffle one dead card back, or ensure you would have none before using this) ... ?
