Friendship, Love, and Artificial Intelligence

So I read this article today about artificial intelligence being possibly close to being achieved: http://www.iflscience.com/technology/robot

Then they start musing about possibilities, talking about robots in social circumstances.

My question to y'all would be: Would you have a robot as a friend? As a lover even? What if you could design them?

Zai is my friend so I suppose yes for friends :>

That said, we do have to be careful with AI.  As literally any sci-fi movie ever will indicate, if we're not careful with this kind of thing, it could easily be our undoing.  Hopefully, that time won't come until I'm either dead or a biocomputer.

That is one undoing I would welcome with a smile of excitement on my face as I get brutally massacred.

Granted, pre-programmed people who will one day take over the human race (you call me crazy, but we'll see who's laughing in a century or two), but people nonetheless.

You're not the only one who thinks so.

I think it'd be cool to have a robot for a friend. My life would be lots more interesting if I had a Bender to my Fry.

As for lovers, there's no doubt in my mind that HumansxAI will be a future social movement, much like how LGBTQ has been on the rightful rise in recent years.

On that note, Her is a good movie.

you all understand sex will be one of the first things that comes out of this if it's commercialized

inb4 Plastic Memories becomes a reality far sooner than predicted.

Instead we get Ex Machina

Sex Ex Machina.

Sounds about right.

But I would be fine with having a Robot for a Friend. I would be careful though, to make sure his inner workings were alright, though.

A sex robot would basically just be a dildo. Don't get me wrong, dildos most certainly have their place in the world, but a great deal of the pleasure of sex for me is knowing my lovers are experiencing sensations as transcendental as they're making me feel and glorying in the solidarity of climaxing together rather than in isolation with only the ghosts of a world entrenched in denial of feeling. Fellow human lovers do not house such ghosts, a machine would.

What....how would sex even work.....I second Hamlet on this. My Imperialist self sees armies, war and destruction come out of this, but def no sexbot

If they'd be used for war, they'd be used to for the oldest profession in the world.

There are already sexbots you dolts.

robot: a machine that can do the work of a person and that works automatically or is controlled by a computer

A fucking vibrator is a robot, for christ's sake.  We don't need to debate if they exist or not because they already do and have for a very long time.

If there were to be romantic possibilities with intelligent AI, however, I'd worry about everything that could go wrong.  That's not to say things can't go right; having the perfect lover would be amazing.  It sure would solve human loneliness.  I like looking at Cortana as an example of something like that.

Is it real love though? Easy gotten gains tend to not stick around

I would strongly disagree unless your vibrators are one of those new fancy wind-up models.

Robot buddies... man, that sounds so cool. Like a show you'd watch when you'd be 7 or 8, and you'd go to sleep thinking it's a cool dream.

I mean, it'd only work for the lonely people, but it's nice to interact with someone who would at least make some attempt to understand what you're trying to say. Granted, having ridiculously human AI is going to be a very bad idea (probably because they'd assume mistreatment is an okay thing and try to perform the same things on their owners and stuff), but it'd probably end up with something akin to sociable machines.

Love, though? That's a biiiiiiit too far ahead to think about. Maybe in the far future of 20XX. Sooner or later, we shall be able to give our android the personality of our 2D waifu, and nobody will question your sanity in the slightest. riiiiiiiight?

I detect puns.

*clicks link*

o' glorious puns

ITT: In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind having conscious/intelligent (as in human-like I guess IDK) robots around in my daily life, it'd be really fun and interesting I think. Having robot friends would be cool.
