Stupid gimmicky GX s*** [Rainbow Neos]

"Elemental HERO Neos" + "Rainbow Dragon" or "Rainbow Dark Dragon"
Must be Fusion Summoned with the above Fusion Material Monsters and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. Once per turn: You can activate 1 of these effects. ● Send 1 monster you control to the Graveyard; shuffle all monsters your opponent controls into the Deck. ● Send 1 Spell/Trap Card you control to the Graveyard; shuffle all Spell and Trap Cards your opponent controls into the Deck. ● Send 1 card from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard; shuffle all cards in your opponent's Graveyard into the Deck.

No one used this ever, but looking at how stupidly powerful its effect is, it makes me wonder if it might be worth teching it and rainbow dragon in a HERO deck using prisma, neos alias, and blazeman's polymerization search (unless i'm mistaken and king of the swamp can in fact work as rainbow dragon, in which case i am so running this irl). Discuss this and crazy gimmicky stuff from GX in general.

It can't? Rainbow Dragon's name is on rainbow Neos though. What am I missing?

The original text specifies an archetype that Rainbow Dragon and Rainbow Dark Dragon are the members of, rather than the two Rainbow Dragons themselves. The archetype didn't carry over to TCG for whatever reason.

so does that make it Prisma legal in TCG but not OCG? or just in general?

There's a ruling issue involving Rainbow Neos. The Japanese version said you needed Neos + 1 "Ultimate Gem God" monster or something like that. Point is, the Rainbow Dragon half of the Fusion Materials are non-specific. You can't search them with Conscription or use Prisma for them. This is a problem on the TCG half, because the English printing used their names specifically.

It doesn't work in the OCG at all, and the TCG has a ruling specifically saying it doesn't work. So both formats follow the same rule.

I'm pretty sure the issue stems from the naming of Rainbow and Rainbow Dark in the TCG. I think the original called them "Ultimate Gem God - Rainbow Dragon" and "Ultimate Gem God - Rainbow Dark Dragon".

This is also why you can't use Malefic Rainbow Dragon in the OCG. It's not "Ultimate Gem God - Sin Rainbow Dragon", but just "Sin Rainbow Dragon".

flute of summoning dragon discard shadow mist -> search 2 rainbow dragon, shadow mist seach neos

then NS blazeman to get poly (can use blazeman for monster shuffling effect later)

still gimmicky but yeah a pretty fun tech in heroes, since its a 4500 beater that can wipe 3 zone, and the grave wipe is free too

its definitely a worthy tech if you also run protective spell such as lance

learn something new every day. i wonder what that means for fusion conscription and fusion reserve. The same thing i would assume?

Correct. The OCG version of Rainbow Neos doesn't have them as specifically named Materials, and the TCG had to rule it this way when a card was released where it mattered (Prisma), as when they printed Rainbow Neos, it wasn't important that they were non-specific. Conscription and Reserve are going to need to follow the same ruling, because they don't work for the same reason Prisma doesn't.

Also, Fusion Substitutes will not work with this card, because it says it must be Fusion Summoned using the above Materials. That's the text that means you can't use Substitutes.

And sadly, there isn't a way for PSCT to fix the issue with the Prisma ruling, because they'd have to errata Rainbow and Dark Dragon to be part of a non-existant archetype, not to mention the weird Crystal Beast support like Rainbow Path, which supports both Rainbow and Dark Dragon.

It really is a rare case where the TCG names came around to shoot them in the foot. You can't even call them Rainbow Dragon and Dark Rainbow Dragon and then errata Neos to say it needs a "Rainbow Dragon" monster, because of Malefic Rainbow Dragon.

This is a result of the TCG's tendency to remove titles from card names to make them shorter, since Kanji allow words to be expressed in 1-2 characters when the English equivalent is far longer. That said, it was extremely short-sighted in this case and makes it sound like R&D for the two halves of the game didn't communicate, even accounting for the Upper Deck/Konami dynamic.

I think the main reason this card never really sees play is because it requires you to be doing something incredibly gimmicky to even consider it.

Rainbow Dragon is completely useless outside Crystal Beasts, and Crystal Beasts themselves don't really like their "boss", due to the requirements for it. Rainbow Dark Dragon is more viable, but only in DARK heavy Decks, and the investment for it is still too high. So you're forced to run a card that has no purpose in a Deck except to be Fusion Material.

The other Material is Neos, a Level 7 Normal monster. This...isn't quite as terrible, but odds are, you're not playing Neos for its own merits, but just as a means to an end. You could use Alius, but it only counts as Neos when Gemini Summoned, so it may be more usable, but you need something to enable it to be live for Rainbow Neos.

So both Materials are gimmicky, and have no synergy with each other whatsoever. Thankfully, you can Fusion Summon it (rather than Contact Fusion), but it lacks quite a bit of synergy with other cards. Since Rainbow Neos isn't an E-HERO, you can't use Miracle Fusion, as mentioned, so you need the Materials in hand (because they're not likely to be on the Field).

On the bright side, its effects ARE very potent and it has a very solid body. But you're jumping through too many hoops.

If it was Elemental Hero Rainbow Neos, Miracle Fusion would have been slammed

When Miracle Contact was first announced people were really stoked to see this card playable, until we saw it could only summon E-HEROs. Rainbow Neos has gotten such a raw deal it's shameful, especially with the idiocy of Derp Law.

Literally just noticed this. It's just gimmicky and silly enough to make me want to try it out (though I think you want "Melody of Awakening Dragon").

3x Blazeman
3x Rainbow Dragon
3x Neos
3x Mist
3x Prisma
1x Rainbow Dark

3x Poly
3x Hero Lives
3x RotA
3x E-Call
3x Melody
3x Fusion Conscription
3x Upstart
3x Lance

???????????????????????

Rainbow Dragon/Dark only has Melody and potentially Upstart going for it.
Neos has Prisma, Blazeman, Mist, E-Call and Conscription going for it.
Poly has Blazeman

When the card was first announced and fan-translated, it said "1 Rainbow monster", and I was so looking forward to using Rainbow Flower as the other material.

This card with a field/Graveyard non-destroying, non-targeting wipe effect and a 4500 ATK body, at the cost of Poly + 2 materials: The fact something like that never sees any use makes me seriously doubt Konami play-tested most old school fusions ever. I mean, LOB and MRD Fusions have no chance in hell, even back when they were created, if something like this also doesn't. Save for maybe Black Skull Dragon in a somewhat dedicated deck at least. Even with the qualities of the materials required.....

That said, it isn't un-summonable, but err.....

Considering how powerful Rainbow Neos can be, I think the ridiculous Summoning condition is appropriate...for the time. 4500 ATK, able to wipe out all monsters or S/Ts in exchange for one of your own, and those cards go to the DECK. Shuffling cards back to the Deck, especially multiple cards simultaneously, is extremely potent, even now.

And the anime did use it as an almost literal "power of friendship" plot device. Super Poly against Rainbow Dark Dragon was plot crucial, and he did add Rainbow Dragon to his Deck...for no real reason other than power of friendship (and Rainbow Neos), but anime Prisma let him use Rainbow Dragon as Material.

That's a big part of why Rainbow Neos became known as "The Protector of Bonds" in Season 4, since it personifies Judai and Johan's friendship. As for anime Prisma, that's just Hikokubo not caring about OCG rulings.

I'm actually pretty impressed by this card because from a simple glance those materials shouldn't be too hard. I mean, yeah they are super heavy and at least 1 of them won't be used at all other than for the Fusion when mained, but x2 materials + Poly is still pretty much the old school norm for Fusion Summoning, and that's where I am surprised. It shouldn't be all that much harder than any other of Jaden's fusions, but it IS.

I guess that's a testament to how important it is for cards to have more than one use when considered for a deck.

Well... "harder" is not the best way to describe it, but I hope my thought still goes through.

I just put a strong focus on the Neo Spacians. It works pretty well when Rainbow Neos is actually NOT the main goal, but a sadistic Bonus Boss.

Huh, Crystal Vanguard can search Rainbow Dragon. That's...interesting, at least. And I'm betting Crystal Vanguard searches "Gem" cards. Such as Gem Beasts, Ultimate Gem God, and the support cards.

Looks kind of fun, at least.

Monster Effect   You can Tribute this card; add 1 "Rainbow Dragon", 1 "Rainbow Dark Dragon", 1 "Crystal Beast" monster, or 1 "CrystalSpell/Trap Card (except "Crystal Counter" or "Violet Crystal") from your Deck to your hand.
