Vennominaga the Deity of Poisonous Snakes

Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned with "Rise of the Snake Deity" and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways except by its own effect. This card gains 500 ATK for each Reptile-Type monster in your Graveyard. This card cannot be targeted by, and is unaffected by, Spell/Trap effects and other Effect Monsters' effects. When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can banish 1 other Reptile-Type monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent: Place 1 Hyper-Venom Counter on it. When 3 Hyper-Venom Counters are on this card, you win the Duel.

Aside from the awkward summoning conditions this card is ridiculous. Unaffected by absolutely everything and self-reviving for next to no cost while also being an alternate win condition. I'd say it's one of the few cards with really specific conditions that is worth the effort required.

*cough* Rainbow Dragon *cough*

Definitely one of the better designed alt win cards, requiring player interaction to pull off, though usually by that time you have game anyway. Having said that, I remember when it first came out, it was unnecessarily expensive because it was a Secret.

But yeah, it can be a pain to deal with for the most part.

Honestly.. it's was super uninteractive for its time. Your deck cant drop something with more attack than it has? Well you cant do anything against it almost as much so as towers. It's just so shitty and impractical to summon that nobody cares.

Vennominaga is one of those really awesome cards that just...doesn't work. Reptiles don't have enough generic support, nor do they have a solid-enough archetype. So you have to build around Reptiles as a general theme, with Vennominon/Vennominaga as the boss.

Rise can't be used during the Damage Step (shame, because the anime version could), so Vennominon has to die by a card effect. We have cool stuff like Limit Reverse to assist with this, and Snake Rain to fuel the Grave with stuff including Vennominon.

EDIT: Wait, Rise's newest printing says "except by battle". Interesting...so it CAN be used during the Damage Step, but not for battle? Whatever, point still stands.

The alt win is actually kind of cool. The problem is that if Vennominaga does die in battle somehow, it loses the counters it had. And really, if it's strong enough to be doing enough damage without being in risk of being killed by battle, you're more likely to win by turning their LP to 0 than by the alt win, but it's a nice thing to have in case your opponent has some absurd LP gain thing going on. (Fear me, D/D/Ds!)

But even with the generic Reptile stuff we have, the Deck would be too inconsistent because again, no really solid archetypes, so the Deck would revolve almost entirely around shooting for Vennominon/Vennominaga, and honestly, by this point, I rather just use Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua. Yes...I know they have nothing in common other than being high Level Reptiles. But Ccarayhua at least can pretend to be supported with Reptiliannes.

If we suddenly got a card that has "Tribute this card, set rise from deck, summon a reptile from deck, destroy during your opponents end phase". This would be genuinely terrifying. But we don't have any good reptiles fullstop. Unless you count kagetokage

And that was the problem with its alt-win. You'd more likely win the normal way than actually trigger its instant win effect due to how big it can get by the time you land this. You'd actually need the opponent to gain obscene amounts of life to withstand 3 hits, something hardly seen outside of Aromas.

Amazing card, just that its associated members were terrible. I do appreciate how this synergizes with every kind of Reptile, and I actually made a casual Worm Deck that went into Vennominaga all of a sudden.

Just saying, Viper's Rebirth is a lot better at setting off Rise of the Snake Deity than Limit Reverse.

True, though the alt-win is nerfed from the anime version which made your opponent lose three turns after it inflicts damage.
