Most favorite deck types?

Recommended Posts

Wights were cool, especially when you can do silly R1 things with them or just oneshot the opponent with Opti-Camouflage Armor.

Wind-Ups were okay - I just disagreed with Hunter and refused to play it. I love their flexible R3-R5 plays which lets me expand my Extra Deck options a little. Glad to hear Zenmaity is coming back OCG-side.

Chain Burn (carefully grazes pelted produce and incoming fire) because of how I can capitalize on the opponent's plays to further my own. Yes I will stoop to "fighting dirty" as long as they are legitimate within game rules. I have cheesed Graveyard Decks with Macro in the past to get an edge over more expensive Decks of that era; I will cheese the Battle Phase in this modern age for the same goal.

I love how Crystal Beasts have a mechanic that drastically alters deckbuilding choices when putting it together, especially with the Pendulums they received. I just wish half their members weren't terrible.

Ghostricks look adorable, and the concept of turning things face-down I find appealing. I have yet to play them so I have no comment on the playstyle.

U.A.s.- I just like how the work, being offensive on your turn and then change the tactics, its kinda like when you score a goal and then you have to defend the score, and try to score again in your next turn

D/D.- Cool design, and capable of summoning the 3 extra deck monster types, also its a pendulum deck/archetype that doesnt rely on pendulum summon

Destiny Hero.- I've always liked anti hero characters and stuff like that, the way they were designed and the characters they are based of caught my attention, not to mention the main deck monster line was far better than the elemental heroes (except for stratos, wich was used in d heros too anyway)

Cyber Dragons.- They were used by one of my favorite characters of all the Yugioh series, and they way they OTK with a monster whose atk was over 5000 was fun (in a format were duels werent that fast)

Photon/Galaxy.- G-EPD alone was a worthy retrained version of blue eyes, i like the rank 8 monsters of they archetype (dragons with huge attack and decent effects), also with galaxy soldier they can summon cyber dragon infinity by the "honest" way.

Tele-DAD.- I stoped playing yugioh in real life before this, so i didnt witness the deck at their prime, i love how it can easily summon the lvl 8 synchros, and the fact that malicious plays a key role is like karma for me, when malicous first came out, i thought it was a useless monster becaise of its low stats i didn t see him any use outside of being a tribute for dogma or plasma (of course there was d draw but the mali curse pissed me off so many times i started to hate the card). So is kinda ironic that a card i used to hate so much became the heart of which is for now my favorite deck

Raccoons - My main squeeze, after Nekroz came out, Naturia Beast caused a lot of salt. It's not top-tier stuff, but I certainly think it can hold its own

Melodious - The art is adorable, really liked Aria and the lock, because unlike the Sandayu lock, it can't be busted with BTS or Castel. RIP Chain though

Harpie - I really loved Channeler into Rank 7

Cloudian - They're not even good but it's such a fun deck. Having to carry around tons of dice for counters though is a pain

Shaddoll - Pre-DUEA I noticed them, and really liked the artwork and theme. I didn't pick them up because they were meta and really expensive out of the gate, but after finally picking them up, it's been fun splashing all sorts of random crap in it

All Machine Archetypes - Jinzo to Gadgets, Trains to Deskbots, Gradius to Superheavies. I basically love any and all machine archetypes. They all have their own thing, but at the same time they often can be used together and are just a very nice utility type overall. I do wish they'd get more generic S/T support though...

Shaddolls - I kinda adopted the "don't hate it until you try it" thought process after first using these guys. I never had understood them and was always annoyed when playing against them. Long story short, they are a favorite of mine (as an engine). Most of the ones listed below I actually like more than Dolls, but none had a dramatic hate/love switch.

Other decks I really enjoy include: Fire Kings, Cloudians, Dustons (occasionally), lvl 1 Chaos, lvl 2 Beasts/Spellcasters (ie. Lovecraft.dek) and lvl 3 spam.dek

1. Lswarms: I typically do a "no particular order" kind of list for stuff like this, but lswarms are truly number 1 for me and will always hold a kind of special, favored place among any deck I have or will have. The Steelswarms specifically were the first legitimate deck I built around an archetype and with different plays available to me aside from the typical "spam heavy hitters and win" strategy (which was for my generic Dragon deck). I loved their artwork and story when I found out about it, and the deck surprisingly performed well enough to net me a couple of wins. Unfortunately, Pure Steelswarms eventually began to fall behind for me; they were slow and didn't really have many Extra Deck options. That's when I decided to take a look at the Evilswarms, which I heard were a decent enough archetype. Like with Steelswarms, I loved their art and I especially loved their description of being monsters resulting from a virus released by the Steelswarms. I also liked their playstyle well enough, but it didn't really sit right with me to completely discard the Steelswarms in favor of their "descendants". So, liking the flavor concept of both lswarm archetypes working together, I decided to work on building a hybrid deck. After some time, I managed to come out with a working build, and man did I have a good time with it. I think I used that deck for almost a year without switching, and I will unashamedly say I love it and still love it when things go as planned and Ophion locks my opponent down, letting me bring in the Steelswarms to swarm the field and clean up any cards my opponent might have lingering.

2. Fire Kings: I didn't know about this archetype until I had to duel it in a random match I picked on YGOPro. I found it interesting enough to read up on and learn how to play, and the archetype eventually became the second deck I "consistently" began to run with enjoyment after lswarms. Fire Kings are reliable, and their playstyle nicely mirrors the concept of reincarnation. Even their art is flavorful in that it references the dances and stories of the gods they're based on. I find it super fun watching Fire King High Avatar Garunix revive to nuke the field and knowing I won't be negatively affected by the destruction of my monsters. It's also absolutely hilarious pulling a Lizard Nuke (destroying Earthbound Immortal Ccarayhua from the hand to truly devastate the field) out of nowhere. I once had a guy be super happy about gaining the upper hand on me by having a full field of monsters while I just had Yaksha. His expression then turned to one of utter sadness and disappointment once I killed Ccarayhua with Yaksha's effect. I now look forward to the day where someone foolishly uses Crush Card Virus against me, that way I can destroy Ccarayhua directly from the deck and watch them cry in regret.

3. Different Dimension Demons (D/D/D): I originally didn't like the idea of them being one of those decks that aimed to summon Fusions, Synchros, and Xyz all in one turn. Because of that, I never bothered to truly look at the archetype, at least not until someone dueled me with them and showed me how they played. It actually seemed more fun and creative than I thought, and I like the artwork of their cards. I learned how they worked, then made a deck of them which I've improved to my liking over time. I look forward to its new support.

4. Fabled & Lovecraft: These two should be split apart, I know, but I'm keeping them together because I never would have come to use them without taking an interest in either of them. Story: A couple of weeks ago I wanted to learn how to build a deck based on using the Lovecraft monsters. I only ever heard about using Synchrons and other random Synchro fodder cards I had no interest for, and so got discouraged and gave up on the idea. A week or two after that, I randomly thought of a rather intense duel I had against Fableds. I enjoyed seeing the way they worked at that time, and of course found their artwork and typing appealing, so naturally I tried to learn how to use them and build my own deck of them. Didn't quite work out though; I couldn't pull off any crazy combos, and like with Lovecraft, I got discouraged and put the idea aside. THEN I realized that I could easily summon Level 4-5 Synchros, and with Great Old One Hastorr being one of the Level 4 Synchros I tech'd, I thought it would be a fun idea to build a Lovecraft deck using Fableds (I know I'm probably not the first one to think of this, but w/e lol). The idea was a success, and because of that it Fableds & Lovecraft has become a deck(s) I feel resonance with and have a blast in using, which reminds me of the fun I had with lswarms.

5. Blue-Eyes White Dragon: I felt this deck deserved to be mentioned. I mentioned before that a generic Dragon beatdown deck was the first kind of deck I built when I was learning how to play; the Blue-Eyes deck I built two years later is its successor, and it was the first deck I bought cards for and had irl. It was fun and is still fun to use, but besides that, I generally love dragons (in MtG, every single deck I have is based on dragons). Also, I get to use one of the classic monsters, which is always nice.

Honorable Mentions: Constellars. Odd-Eyes Pendulum Magicians, and mr skeltal.

1 ) Raidraptor : Been running this deck since it came out, great monsters, great combo synergy between cards, great consistency through searching, nice and effective ways to rank-up, not to mention it's a great r4 spam deck and will only get more dynamic and powerful techs/support when SPWR lands in november.

2 ) Yang Zing : Many people loath this deck, but i for one like this deck, probably the only wyrm deck that's semi-competitive, great synergy, generic synchro become almost invincible when made with the right YZ materials, their archetype specific synchros are also pretty good on the effects. The zefra engine also provides them more speed and backups. Long duel but a enjoyable deck to play for me regardless.

3 ) D/D/D : Love this deck, probably the only pendulum deck i love to use, great and powerful synergies and cheat plays of LP shennanigans make them pretty fun. Kali Yuga, Leonidas and Ragnarok provide a very offensive field presence, while the covenants are very well synergized and 1 even completely shuts down backrow.

4 ) Galaxy : One of my first decks, i love their playstyle and their xyz plays. Great diversity and easy to access rank 8 engine makes them good, not that effective now but still fun to use.

5 ) Dinomist : I know they have just been added but i am loving them in every test i have did till now, nice deck, scale protection, rank 4-5 plays with ease, easy to push random otk's and bbye to all mirror force etc. if  field is up.

D/D: My god, ever since this deck was first released in YGOPro emulators I have never stopped playing it. I'm so in love with this deck I already have my TCG Legal copies of d'Arc, Pandora and Tell (even if the last two are quite bad). This deck is super powerful, it has so many ways to bait your opponent out and with the Fiend-Type support it can become devastating (Tour Guide, Scarm, Fiendish Rhino). So fast and well designed. It's a Pendulum Deck that does not rely on its Pendulum mechanic. And the best part is that this deck has proven to be good even without using any kind of floodgate.

Gusto: The deck I mained for about a year, and my favorite Synchro Deck. I won several locals using my IRL Gusto Deck and teching in some Silpheeds. I like their artwok, their lore, and their effects. Even though it requires some interaction with your opponent, if set with the right cards can become quite terrific and OTK your opponent in just a blink. I remember I was at the finals of the weekly locals and I OTK'd my opponent using their own Apoqliphort Killer. Trolling never felt so good.

Ghostrick: My first Xyz deck. Stalling for days. Then when BA got released I ran in some Rank 3 Shenanigans with this deck. It was pretty cool. I made it to top 8 on some regionals. I still use this deck for funsies, now that Angel of Mischief exists too.

Shaddolls: I never got to use these in competitive play, but it was pretty good when Moralltach and Super Poly were a thing. I like their designs and their playstyle. I also like how versatile they are you can pretty much put Shaddolls into everything (except LS, I hate the LS engine in anything).

So pretty much I like decks that require tactics and have high speed in swarming the field while also protecting your own monsters. I really hate decks that are auto-pilot and go for locks or floodgates. I really despise floodgates.

I'm just curious... were you tagging with your DDs on percy during the dev outage?

Your name looks very familiar to me. (if it was you i was the normal pendulum guy)

I do play in Percy, but I rarely use D/D in Tags because of the self-hurting damage.

Casual:

Six Samurai: Love their story and lore, and i'm running OTK-ish build and even don't run Shi En Synchro (just spam everything in your hand and i got nothing left! YAY!) Yep a single Mirror Force and Torrential/Solemn/Bottomless kills you.

Familiar/Charmer: My favorite so far, and i'm using Hand/Gravekeeper combo for mish mash! Pretty fun when you have Unpossessed, Card Supply and Fire/Ice Hand on the field . . . just ram and profit~

Ghostrick: Because they're kawaii~ and that's it!

Advanced:

Monarch: Dunno  . . . i like it because they're kind of evil (one of the archetype that keep searching for floodgates) especially small lock with Field and Erupt. (Yes i don't run N'tss/Zaborg combo)

Shaddoll: I like their playing style (keep fusing and fusing, it's like Konami trying to force fusion mechanic to it's limit by creating this archetype) but don't like it when someone uses it and activate their Graveyard effects while mill'd by the cost of LS. (You can't do that)

my most favorite deck type are:

1. OTK deck (HERO, Batteryman, Superheavy and any other)

I just love OTK's explosive play, instantly defeating opponent from out of nowhere, especially since

i can play passively, make opponent think i'm playing slow deck or have bad hand...Especially the hero, sudden miracle fusion, mask change, mask change, form change ), not to mention the cool monsters, Rainbow Neos w/Rocket Hermos Cannon , V.Hero Trinity!

2. Suprise Deck (Remove brainwashing Deck, Seventh One Monster Mash, Cyber Stein.Deck, Performage W/Burn)

Weird and Obsecure deck that is hard or unpredictable by the opponent, usually goes for OTK too

3.Win Condition/Infinite Loop (Exodia, Jackpot 7, Quillbolt Loop)

I always love win condition / Infinite Loop, it just feels special to win with them while the other just spamming monsters to battle

4.D/D/D

Dont know why i like this deck so much....its just unique, its a control deck yet filled with boss monsters, being able to use Fusion, Synch and Xyz

easily in 1 deck is just feels like the ruler of all dimensions, not too mention it can OTK easily too...

D/D/D- The deck makes you feel like a card game wizard. So many possible plays really makes the deck fun and innovative to play, plus there's the cool value of having multiple kinds of boss monster and amassing huge amounts of life points.

Superheavy Samurai- The fact that a deck that plays not a single spell or trap is this viable still astounds and delights me. One of the most unique and interesting decks to ever come out of the game, IMO.

Heraldic Beast- I liked to play the Heraldic Rank-Up version a lot back in the Zexal era (thanks largely to evilfusion). Just a really fun deck that was efficient at what it did without being broken.

Constellar- Haven't played these guys (or Heraldic Beasts, actually) in a while, but I remember I started playing the deck when DN didn't even have in-focus artwork for them yet, it was the fuzzy-ass scans we got when they were first leaked. Started playing them almost immediately after they hit online, always liked playing them.

Fluffal- Very fun and destructive fusion combos, along with a ton of really good support that just makes for a fun Fusion experience (though Tiger has netted me many a ragequit). Tiger into Wolf is one of the most deadly satisfying combos I've EVER played.

Tengu Plant Synchro- From back in the day when I was really starting to get into the game. Was so sad when basically every thing that made the deck function got slapped by the banlist to push Xyz Monsters. Was a very fun deck that took a lot of thinking to play out. I feel like Sylvan may be the natural evolution of that, but I can't play Sylvan worth diddly. I'll have to sit down and figure the deck out at some point.

Trains- The only Xyz-centric deck I really love. The absurdity of dropping a 3200 beater with a bult in protection effect on turn 1 is so satisfying. Has ALSO netted many a ragequit, especially those turn 1 Doras.

Banish Psychics- Became my favorite type almost instantly when it came out, and I really loved working out the combos to get as many uses out of Esper Girl as possible. The fact the deck could pretty reliably drop both the main Naturia Synchros as well as synergize with Thought Ruler, one of my favorite Synchro Monsters, was icing on the cake.

The following are my favorite decks.

1. Harpie Lady-The deck that got me back into the game.

2. Kozmo-Nostalgia.dek. I also love how broken the OTK is with Dark Destroyer.

3. Yosenju-Always fun to exploit Vanity's Emptiness.

4. Gravekeeper-I ran a synchro variant that made Leo and Star Eater for days. Throw in Necrovalley, and you got a good stun going.

5. Basically any deck people hate, especially Nurse Burn. I love making people as salty as possible.
