Master Tuner

I was thinking about Synchro Summons, and how it may be pesky for some people (i.e. me) to obtain the correct level with a tuner and a non-tuner to Synchro Summon. So, I created a card that may be OP in its effect to help solve the problem.

"Master Tuner"

Attribute: EARTH

Level 1

Warrior/Tuner

Lore: If this card is used as Synchro Material for a Synchro Summon: Choose a Level from 1 to 12; this card becomes that Level during the Synchro Summon. This card cannot be destroyed by battle while in face-up Defense Position.

ATK 0/DEF 0

I feel that the effect is powerful if you're in dire need of a Tuner monster, but its ATK/DEF level it out.

Well, becoming a level during a synchro summon doesn't really help much, because it's changing during the summon rather than before the summon, when you actually need it. While not being able to be destroyed by battle while in defense position might seem OP, it can still be targeted or destroyed by cards and effects.

Assuming it did what you meant it to do, it basically means you can make any synchro monster under any circumstance. Fortunately, you would have to normal summon it, or Special Summon it with something like Call of the Haunted. It's also a warrior, though, meaning it's searchable.

All in all, it doesn't seem particularly game breaking, but definitely offers up some combo pathways

You can get away with shortening the effect to:
If used for a Synchro Summon, this card's Level can be treated as any Level. This face-up Defense Position cannot be destroyed by battle.

Does "face-up Defense" imply that face-down Defense does not apply even if it flips during the damage step?

There's a few cards out there that can give you mostly any Synchro out of this. Marauding Captain and any similar effect or One for One, just to name a couple.

I don't like how absolute it is, but for now it is still not an advantage generating card on its own and most Synchros Level 9+ require 3 materials, other Synchros, or specific Types, Sub-Types, or Attributes, so I don't think it does anything outrageous currently unless I'm missing something.

Stats on a tuner don't matter. At all. There's no reason to attack with tuners barring swinging with one for game after a board wipe.

Not actually true, which is what I wanted to step in with.

This is an EARTH Plant Tuner.

Its stats matter because they give it the capability to go +1 before you synchro, as well as not being a terrible draw.

Whether that's relevant to OP or not is one thing, but stats most certainly DO matter on Tuners, because they make them more valuable draws/etc.

You mean EARTH, right?

But in any case, this card is capable of making Star Eater, Leoh and some of the other 2-mat Level 9 and above generic Synchros; Star Eater is probably the worst that can come out of this (but yeah, not really keen on this card giving certain Decks access to Synchros they shouldn't be having in the first place [though 1-turn Level 7/8s are getting common] + as Sleepy mentioned, a lot of Level 9+ stuff is either specific or requires more mats). If stuff like Ultimaya/Bishilbaalkin counted as Synchro Summoning, this would be useful for helping to summoning them, but they don't.
